I mean the money is pure shit most of the time, days are long, you get pretty exhausted and/or see some shit you really didn't want to deal with, people look at it as "not a real job", management hates you and you're always having to babysit other departments, but I do love it with every fiber in my body.
Have not ridden yet. Trails are pretty washed out and/or still mucky and lots of rain in the forecast. Things are so fuckin spicy here, its wild. I hope my comp stumpjumper doesn't blow up. But having somewhere to keep your bike stored securely and a decent discounted bike shop isn't a bad deal either. Might break the rust off on this upcomming 4-day weekend and ride some of the public trails that interconnect throughout the resort.

Been getting into underground publishers and pulp fiction lately. They’re super fun, albeit the writing quality usually isn’t that great. The writing is usually super niche and weird too, but it’s cool to see work that wouldn’t have been normally published by a larger printing house.
Plus I snagged a super cool historical capsule: a sci-fi pulp house magazine from 1940! So fun to see all the old ads and perceptions of science and the future. Plus it has a gem in it: a story by Isaac Asimov, one of his first ever too. Dude first published in 1939 so the story in this pulp is probably one of the first he ever wrote!
Trails at work are fucked and we're gonna open before Trestle does seeing as they're still under multiple feet of snow. Deep 6-8" ruts from run-off, consistent rain making things extremely muddy. We've been trying to get out on the stuff we're going to open next week but this weather has been a major kick in the dick. And of course to add insult to injury, it gets bluebird and pretty right about the time of day when its time to clock out and have end of shift beers.
I was supposed to plant trees yesterday and this weekend but we had only 4 of those planting tools. I got to chill while real men are doing the work. In 30 years we have another forest where to get lost.
Now I know how my sister has felt every time I had to forest work as kid while she didn't get to do anything because she is a woman.

everytime i walk out of ours to go to do work in the teardown room across the street theres so many fucking indian woman.
ALWAYS ON THEY DAMN PHONE. At any given point in my day theres at least 3 yappin but they always stop and stare at me as i walk past.
The ratio is like 1 indian guy for every 10 indian woman its so weird.
and i feel like this comes off as hyperbole but i have been working here for a month and have never seen less than 2 in the common space on their phone.
I am currently listening to hindi as i post this. I love Toronto.

Saw a taco dressed to the nines yesterday. Literally every overlanding "upgrade" you could think of. Guaranteed to have been on less rowdy roads than my 05 pilot
On a side note, I overheated my tranny the other day hogging the ole girl in the hills scouting for turkey and deer spots. Steep mud and boulders was too much for her after a few hundred thousand i guess
had an interview to be the programs director at a sober living facility that is for homeless men to battle addiction through peer support, develop career skills and obtain jobs then transition into their own housing. personally i love this model as i think it sets homeless people up for success much better than the programs from the shelters. i am very hopeful that it went well enough for a second interview

I see this in my field too though. All of the lower level design engineering and engineering support positions are filled by Indians. The companies set up offices in India to train employees then transfer them to their US offices, while paying way below US market rates. I think it gets around some of the visa issues because they're just transferring within the company.

what’s the deal with locations having different names in different languages? like why don’t we just we call it germany when they call it deutschland? if they use a different alphabet, sure, you should sound it out with your alphabet to get close. but to just throw curveballs with names is ridiculous. is denver not just denver everywhere??

I've thought about that too. Supposedly it stems from old mapmakers writing shit as they hear it phonetically then it gets butchered over the generations. I can kinda see it being understandable before the telephone and whatnot but in the day of the Internet it's wild how many countries literally aren't called what we call them lol

Have never really thought about it before. Places should be called with what they are called in the local language.
