MinggMy hospital is preparing for widespread measles outbreaks and I’m not ready for it 🙃
edit: there’s less and less info on measles coming out yet hospitals are doubling down on preparation which makes me worried that it’s actually worse than the CDC is reporting. Pages from the website are disappearing and we just don’t know what’s actually happening. It’s fucking wild.

i just want an older truck as a daily. my car is about to die and for once i want to drive something with some character. i also see myself hauling around a lot of music gear in the future so it would be pretty helpful.

Ford ranger or a Toyota product if high mileage doesn’t scare you

You need a van. Some older Chevy, Ford, Dodge van that you can trick out. They are getting harder and harder to find though as others are seeking them out for similar reasons. Good luck with your searching.
Situation is starting to be pretty SOS. Somehow tomorrow is should be an expert in electromagnetism and only thing I know is that magnet is something that sticks to your fridge door and the right hand rule. I have no idea what I have been doing in class for the last 6 weeks.

i never had to take a course on this so forgive my ignorance but my understanding is that this is how anything that spins creates electricity like turbines, hydro electric and even geothermal right? they briefly taught us on it in middle school which I thought was pretty sick. just for my knowledge check, it’s when the 2 like poles pas each other and can’t repel away that they create energy?? one thought i had was why don’t electric cars have magnets on the wheels so every rotation charges the battery? the engine braking recharge does something else. sure, seems like it would undoubtedly pick up metal road debris but there’s gotta be a way to block that from being an issue i would imagine. idk just a fun thought.
ask the teacher why they don’t do the infinite power glitch 🤣

Without getting into the weeds of e&m and emf and whatnot, every time electricity travels thru a conductor some of the energy is lost in the form of heat as no conductor has 0 resistance (generally)
This means that even if you recover some energy, it will never be equal or more than the energy you put into the system to move it. This is the same principal behind why opening your fridge will only heat up a room and why if you coast down a hill on a bike you won't get back up to the top of a same size hill.

well yeah i was joking about the ‘infinite power glitch’ part. more so if it was an additional and viable option to regain some energy during travel in addition to regenerative braking. or would doing so cause friction and slow down the travel thus actually using more energy lol.
there’s a race in australia with 100% solar powered vehicles which is pretty rad and intense and they go slow lol but exciting concepts nonetheless

Motors and generators are the same thing but in reverse of each other. When you pass a magnet over a conductor, you transfer the energy used to move the magnet into electricity in the wire. When you put electricity through a wire, it creates a magnetic field that can move a magnet if you so choose.
You can use electrical energy to power a car and turn it into kinetic energy, but if you try to use that kinetic energy to make electricity again it will slow the car down and due to heat loss you won't be able to use the electricity generated in any productive way.
Regenerative braking works very well because instead of kinetic energy (a car speeding down the road) turning into heat that dissipates into the atmosphere via brake pads and discs, that kenetic energy can get stored with a generator (often the car's very own motor) to charge a battery and used again when you need it, with heat loses of course.
Efficiency optimization is neat. Hypermiling is another cool thing people do, they'll get like 100+mpg out of purpose build civics and shit. I can get autistic about this shit all day
I’m officially burnt out again . Can’t get up or eat or shower. Don’t want to talk to anyone and I want to just cancel my jobs. Wife is stressed too. I feel very useless and tired

Same. I guess I'm happy bike patrol season starts on Tuesday for me but this has been probably the most depressing spring I've had in my life. Skiing was fun no doubt, but life in general really hasn't been. And its another holiday weekend spent working and without anyone to go do fun stuff outside with.
CatdickBojanglesFor some reason a video about Star Wars popped up in my YouTube. I’m now im
3 hours deep into cannon Star Wars lore lmao. Never knew how deep it went.
I've always wondered how much of that is legit from starwars writers and how much is just fanfiction that hung around long enough to stick
CatdickBojanglesIt’s wild how deep and fleshed out it is. I love the movies but that was as far as I went. This shits crazy.
I had an old buddy in the AF that had a book of all the models of all the ships that included like assembly drawings and parts specs of the most random shit. It was cool the nerdery goes incredibly deep.

I’m climbing Eckhart’s Ladder on the algorithm too now thanks to watching Andor

Yeah I’ve watched a few of his. There’s like 3 channels I’ve been back and forth between and they pull millions of views on every video it’s pretty wild never thought Star Wars lore would be that popular.
Local liquor store was having a pop up book sale with a local shop. Obviously I went because I combines 2 of my favorite things:
books, and beer.
Picked up a trade paperback copy of Albert Camus’ “Exile and the Kingdom”. I’ve kind of avoided his work for a long time because most of the people I’ve met who love his stuff are insufferable. But now here I am, reading it with an IPA, and it’s honestly not bad- dude was a Nobel prize winner after all.
Seriously though, if I ever turn into one of those dudes who drinks matcha, wears rings, and carries around a Camus book in their tote bag- I want you to shoot me in the back of the head.
Oh and dude is so obviously French, the first story is literally about a woman cheating on her husband in Morocco.

SuperiorKalmarI'm pretty sure I passed physics. Yay.
Yay! You making your own electromagnets at home now. We did that when I was a kid and we got these huge old batteries. Good times

I have 24 hours in helsinki before flying back to the US
I knew Finland was expensive but I wasn't quite prepared for how crazy the prices are
I just paid 11.5€ for a pint of beer, and that seems pretty normal here.

SlushSeasonApart from the cost, I like it a lot (the good weather helps a ton)
It's fine during summer. I really like the coast and presence of the sea. Harbour brings the type of vibe I like. Similar vibes to what mines bring.
I haven't really spent time in Helsinki that much. Few days of shopping against my will, few days of shopping for equipment and one day of biking around. And few times to catch a ferry to southern Helsinki(Tallinn)
During winter it's miserable. No-go-zone
There is only few zones in the city where I could see myself living. Driving in Hellsinki is terrible.

Did you try Hesburger?
I haven't had it yet. I couldn't remember the name when I was looking for lunch today. Theres one a few blocks from my hotel, is it something I need to try?
I had a bunch of fried vendace fish for lunch and some reindeer for dinner

I don't see it as "need". It's just fast food but it's something that most Finns miss when they are away.
For real food I would recommend salmon soup. Also proper rye bread is something you need to try.
I had a 22oz beer at Laguardia airport in March that was $20.50 before tip.
Zurich airport got me for $8 for a 20 oz water bottle.
