ParkingLotPissMaybe, but you're just pulling that out of your ass. You have no knowledge of the LAPD's abilities and what force or presence would have been necessary to keep things from escalating. Had things gotten out of hand, the governor could have called in the Guard himself.
I think under a different president, people would not have opposed this move as much, but it’s worrisome when a president who is clearly not interested in following the law makes moves like this.
ParkingLotPissThis doesn’t answer what I said and is just steering the conversation in another direction because you know I’m right.
But:
"Anyone who believes in politics is delusional"
This is just stupid. I agree that basically every politician has or will do something kinda shady but just giving up on the only system we have to bring about change is stupid and weak minded.
"Anyone who believes in destroying their own city for 'justice' is delusional"
You’re overexaggerating the destruction caused by this protest. The point of protest is to draw attention to an issue and smashing a couple of cars draws a lot more attention than holding a sign and walking down the sidewalk. We can argue about the merits of the protest itself all day but the fact is that damaging property during a protest is one way to get attention.
"Anyone who gets angry on a ski forum over politics is delusional"
That makes two of us. And the platform used for discussion is irrelevant.
Think before you talk and ask yourself if what you’re saying is just made up and sounds good or if it actually holds up.
PartyBullshiitYou can’t argue that protests are peaceful while at the same time causing damage and destruction is ok. The left have been crying everything’s been nothing but peaceful which isn’t even close to true. The right has been crying it’s basically ww3 out there. Which also isn’t true. The reality is there are people protesting peacefully which the law gives them the right to do and they should not be punished for doing so. There are also bad actors there just to cause damage and escalate things, loot stores and make the situation worse which they should be arrested and charged for.

ParkingLotPissYeah, you're right, I'm definitely not looking at this with enough nuance. Neither of us can say anything definitively, but it's likely that the Guard prevented more damage from happening. I think Trump has a track record of acting in ways that prioritize his own agenda and the interests of his friends. That track record makes me and other people on the left automatically assume that everything he does serves his agenda before it serves the people.
So you're right, it's probably a good thing the Guard was there, but I think it's worth acknowledging that people's negative reaction to this is likely largely due to the fact that recently, Trump has made it clear that he cares more about his own power than the well-being of the population, so it's alarming when someone like that mobilizes a military force to act against regular citizens.
PartyBullshiitAgreed across the board. I dislike Trump just as much as you. I agree almost everything he does is only in his best interest to benefit himself, gain more power or enrich his family.
at the same time I can openly admit if something he did was likely right while still disliking him.
ParkingLotPissI also dont doubt that he has some less nobel motivation for sending in the guard.
SlushSeasonAs for the Palestinian activists that you seem to love, the government's claim has generally been that they lied on their visa applications regarding their connections to various terror groups, rendering their visas invalid. I don't know if that's true or not, but as someone who has to provide the government a comprehensive list of all my foreign contacts each year, I take it pretty seriously.
Christian_BaleYou know damn well that's not true, not a single one of the activists that have either been deported or have ongoing cases have been shown to have any credible ties to terrorism. While I think the topic of immigration is more complicated than a lot of people will acknowledge, this issue is a lot more straightforward and it's obviously bullshit.

VTshredder69Pretty sure nobody on this forum thinks you're right about anything
PartyBullshiitAnd I would 100% agree with you on that too but it still doesn’t change the fact it was likely the right decision and stopped further damage and harm to officers. Again both can be true at the same time.
LonelyNo new wars
ParkingLotPissI'm sure people really agree with what you have to say. But that's actually irrelevant because the user base of a niche internet forum is not a large enough sample size to draw any meaningful conclusions.
ParkingLotPissI still agree that the guard likely prevented damage, but a judge just ruled that their deployment was unconstitutional and illegal.
I also don’t think that if the National Guard hadn’t shown up, it would have been a total disaster. The LAPD is very well equipped.
But violating your own country’s constitution by deploying your own country’s army on your own citizens. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should be able to see that this is a bit concerning.

SteezyYeeteryou must be fun at parties
PartyBullshiitAnd just like that the ruling was blocked and Trump can continue.

VTshredder69You probably hold Obama as a hero too right? Most drone strike deaths of all time is a pretty cool stat I guess.
No new wars with America in them? Sure I like that but i guess it's still awful when we're deporting Illegal Immigrants ...
Best part of my day was driving by an ANTI FASCIST March in my hometown. Every single person was white.
Even the Immigrants want nothing to do with you fucktards.
BREAKING NEWSSSSSS
PRIVELIDGED WHITE PEOPLE MARCH AGAINST IMMIGRATION POLICY WHILE IMMIGRANTS OBSTAIN.
ParkingLotPissVT stands for Vermont, right?
This is anecdotal evidence based on one town in one of the whitest states. Only an idiot would think this is meaningful on a larger scale. What are you even trying to say? Is your argument that immigrants are actually in favor of being deported because you saw a protest in an all-white town and everyone was white? Even if this were in another town or state, the same would apply.
I often struggle to understand how conservatives arrive at many of their political views, but I guess it makes sense if this is what you think a logical train of thought looks like.

HOW DARE YOU ASSUME MY GENDER!!!!
SteezyYeeterif this is the case, you are a very close minded and unintellient individual.
i can sympathize with MANY leftist attitudes, even if i don't agree with them.

ParkingLotPissMaybe because most beliefs common among leftists are based in science and evidence. It makes it a lot easier to see where someone is coming from when they can back up what they think with why they think it.

SlushSeasonI can't prove anything and you can't prove anything. The government hasn't shown it to be true yet, at least for the two high profile cases. But i don't find it far fetched at all that the leaders of the largest palestine protests in the US have friends or family in the PLO, PIJ, or Hamas.
