SlushSeasonMost of those 40% are people that cross the southern border on a tourist visa with no intention of leaving in 90 or 180 days when the visa expires.
The government should be keeping track of visas expiring and deport people who refuse to leave on their own. Mohammed Soliman should have been immediately deported and not been allowed to stay, pending his (bogus) assylum claims.
Additionally, most countries do not allow you to apply for a new type of visa, assylum, etc. from within the country, and for good reason. E.G. if you have a tourist visa to the UK, but want to get a work visa, you have to leave the country and apply at a British embassy, that way if they deny you, they don't have to go through the trouble of tracking you down and the legal battles to deport you.
The 40% don't cross the southern border, they come in through a variety of avenues, some of which may include that southern border. But they're entering legally.
How do you track down the individuals?
Have you ever traveled to a foreign country? Most customs agents just ask you your purpose and that's it. If they ask you where you're going, you just need to say region / town. You don't need to provide an address.
Even if you do, what's to stop you from leaving and going elsewhere?

you're so angry for someone who loves people breaking the laws and murdering people.
ParkingLotPissSpeaking of tropes...
Conservative dweeb reads a source without actually reading the source. Turns out the source says the exact opposite of what they're claiming. Once again, more painful idiocy
“While the recent snowfall has temporarily offset these losses, they haven’t stopped, so it’s not expected this is a long-term change in Antarctica’s behaviour.”
“This isn’t a sign that global warming and climate change have miraculously reversed.”
VTshredder69you're so angry for someone who loves people breaking the laws and murdering people.
Are you talking about Trump?
He pardoned two cops that killed a guy, Larry fucking Hoover (the gangster that Denzel Washington played), and a bunch of other people that defrauded charities and the American public.
Funny enough some of these people had family members attend a million dollar fundraising dinner for Trump and they were pardoned a month later.

Yes, I have been to more that 40 foreign countries. Many countries, such as Germany and Canada are very trusting of Americans and only ask you what you're there for and how long you plan to stay.
But others such as Morocco and the Bahamas do request the exact address that you'll be staying at. Plenty of others like Uzbekistan are even more strict and require you to register with the local police of each town you're staying in. And pretty much anywhere, if you're a foreigner you'll have to present your passport with a valid visa to take a plane, stay in a hotel, rent a car, etc.
Honestly i don't think it would be that hard to track down 90% of illegal immigrants, we just don't make any effort to do it here. Anywhere else, if you try to rent an apartment, get an ID, apply to college, report a car accident, they'll request your passport/visa number and if it's not valid you'll be quickly deported. But so many of our state/local institutions fight tooth and nail to make the feds' job harder and avoid any responsibility to collaborate with immigration enforcement.
Given what illegals pay and the fact that they work jobs no Americans would, it seems like we should just make the pathway to citizenship NOT a convoluted mess.
America actively allows our own "homegrown" crime problem to fester as a way to breed discontent among the general population and keep the culture wars going, so the pearl clutching about illegal immigrant criminals makes me laugh.
If we wanted to we could fix illegal immigration without being dicks to people that come here and work hard.
If we wanted to we could fix the opioid crisis and crime in cities. We don't because these issues make the rich money and keep people divided.
This essentially explains every issue in the country.

Yeah, so this is completely unrelated to what you replied to. You cited a source claiming it was evidence against[/i] climate change, but I used my awesome reading skills and pointed out that it's the exact opposite and literally says to not take this as evidence against climate change. This is how I know you are not very smart, because a smart person would never do something that stupid.
So expanding sea ice clearly means the climate is warming up!!!! Lol

I work with lots of indians & Asians that had zero problem gettting citizenship so idk why it's so hard for everyone else. Are you saying south americans are dumb?
abjectwoeI take the above figures with a grain of salt since it was put together by a left-leaning think tank.
A right-leaning group says illegal immigrants cost tax payers $151 billion:

We can't fix the opiate crisis because it was started by big pharma and they control everything.

You have a 6th-grade understanding of science at best.
But I’ll give you a quick lesson.
Weather[/b] refers to the natural outdoor conditions at any given moment.
Climate[/b] refers to long-term natural outdoor conditions. So even if temperatures go down or ice expands in a given year or decade, that doesn’t mean the climate is cooling.
This is a graph from the article you cited, but the words were too big for you to understand. The graph covers a short period of time and demonstrates that although there has recently been a gain in ice mass, over the last two decades there have been considerable losses.
So expanding (or shrinking) ice over a given year or few years effectively tells us nothing about the climate.
More Dunning-Kruger effect. Only idiots (or people with an agenda) talk confidently about things they don’t understand.
You and people like you are intellectual burdens on society, slowing down global development, scientific advancement, and overall societal progress.
Google is free, Chatgpt is free please just make an effort to inform yourself.
No, it isn’t. The science is conclusive and relatively comprehensive—even for people without a scientific background. The online and physical resources explaining climate, climate science, and climate change are endless.
You’re just too lazy to try to understand what’s happening around you.
Climate change is natural. Your copy and pasting is what's a detriment to society.

Yeah, I forgot the graph, but honestly, I shouldn't need it.
The only reason anyone would think that climate change is natural is because they lack the ability to identify reputable sources of information. I don’t know who told you that, but they lied to you.

Really?
I'm not going to guess what political party you affiliate with but I don't think either party would be OK with the governmental intrusion required to achieve what you hope.
Imagine the databases the government would have to gain access to to track down individuals. They'd have to access bank records, hotel databases, rental car databases, credit card databases, etc. to the point where they would have access to EVERY part of our lives.
Yea because science isn't constantly changing all the fucking time lol.
Congrats, you blindly believe everything on the internet. You're the dumbass.
While we're at it lets get ready for Y2K!!!

Yes. Local police, the DMV, and maybe even landlords should be reporting the basic document information from noncitizens. I didn't say that we should give the feds access to existing databases, but rather that there should be additional reporting requirements. The fact of the matter is that most other counties actually keep tabs on their foreign residents and deport them when their time is up. The US has not been making much effort to do that until quite recently so millions of illegal immigrants have had decades to set down roots here, making the prices much more painful.
Federal law supercedes state law. I might be upset at plenty of the laws passed by the federal congress, but the states have an obligation to follow them anyway. The Texas case is an outlier because it was a state enforcing federal laws that the feds themselves refused to enforce.

OK so you want a federal police state effectively.
You can just say as much next time.
Congratulations, you understand the Supremacy Clause without any context. Yes, federal law supersedes state laws.
However, the Federal Government cannot (as determined by several Supreme Court cases) force States to enact or enforce a Federal regulatory program.
Remember the 10th Amendment? How about the anti-commandeering principle? Legal precedent in this country has often sided with states in that they are allowed to control local affairs as they see fit, including those that entail public safety. Forcing state officials comes in conflict with the 10th Amendment.
You seem to think that because other countries can do it, so should the US.
It's not that simple. We're a country of 340M with a continental landmass roughly the same size of Europe. The average European country is like...~17M people (let's just exclude the tiny ones like San Marino forsimplicity sake) with a hell of a lot smaller landmass.
VTshredder69We can't fix the opiate crisis because it was started by big pharma and they control everything.
It doesn't help that we still prosecute people for possession and overdosing, which feeds a vicious cycle of imprisonment, job difficulties, etc. All the narcan and addiction programs in the world won't fix this issue if we still treat these people like criminals in the government's eyes.
Then you literally still have pharmacies refusing to give people syringes if they suspect they're addicts, despite the known overwhelming amount of benefits to providing that stuff. This one blows my fucking mind that some health care professionals still have this stigma towards drug use that they'll refuse to provide clean needles.
And a unique and highly politically charged solution of supervised consumption centers (basically a place you go to shoot up safely), has been shown to be cost effective (yes saves more money than the status quo). There's a few in super progressive states, but in general, it's being framed as a radical left idea.
It's all so infuriating because we actually aren't effectively trying to solve the issue at hand, meanwhile it is costing us boatloads of money in ems, police, ER, and courtroom resources. It's a fucking joke, and then you've got tons of opioid settlement funds going towards non opioid related things at police agencies.
Yea because science isn't constantly changing all the fucking time lol.

You know what, you're actually right. Science is always changing, and for all we know, we might make future discoveries that completely change everything we know about climate science.
That doesn’t mean the existing science is false or that we should ignore it. At the moment, our best, most advanced research says this is a real problem.
And I’m not just pulling this off some random website. I’ve read the studies and spoken to experts in person.

It wouldn't be so divisive if it wasn't used as a cudgel to make people feel bad about themselves. All you do is make yourself like an angry parent trying to put people in the "naughty corner" for merely saying that X may not be happening because of Y. Read the room a bit, everyone is tired of being lectured to from up high.

Yeah, placing the blame on normal people is very counterproductive.
But idiots who want to pretend the problem isn’t real are even more counterproductive. How are we supposed to get anywhere if people won’t acknowledge that something has to change?

100% and as I always says: even if climate change was a hoax, why is clean water and air a bad thing?
TOAST.With people that deny climate change it is best to just stick to clean air and water imo since most people like that and better that than nothing.
No, trying to inform them is always the way. We cannot let the rise of anti-intellectualism continue
ParkingLotPissNo, trying to inform them is always the way. We cannot let the rise of anti-intellectualism continue
There are only so many hours in the day man. If they were kids I think they'd be worth it, but trying to deal with flat-earth, chem -trail adults is not worth it imho.
Anti-intellectualism is here to stay, at least for now. We sincerely need to fix our fucking schools. My mom has been a teacher for ~35 years. I went to the school she teaches at. It was a half decent inner city school back then. Funding has only gotten worse and the curriculum has gone down the drain.
The only people being lectured to are those saying legitimate science is fake news. Continue that and you fucking bet you're gonna be called out and educated on reality. If being educated by someone smarter or with a bigger degree makes you feel small (re: lectured from up high), then Napoleon, that's a personal problem.

I think they made a somewhat fair point though about how environmentalism has been weaponized to make the average person feel bad meanwhile Taylor Swift and Leonardo Dicaprio have private jets and yachts that cause more pollution than a million people.
The worst offenders are corporations, but they've crafted this message in the media that the onus and fault lies with us average people.

Blame corporations all you want, but it's everyone's fault. Decisions of corporations are heavily influenced by consumer habits, regardless of laws. As long as people still have higher demand for less environmentally friendly products, there's little incentive to modify business practices.
Now the lobbying thing is another story, but in general, we as a population, while moving in the right direction, still overwhelmingly prefer products and services bad for the environment. This includes many parts of the ski industry too.
Pete Hegseth stripping Harvey Milks name off a naval ship during pride. Fuck that piece of shit. Dude's sending top secret war plans to his family and a journalist. Shouldn't even have a job.
Idk, super fucked. I'm starting to have minimal sympathy and a growing hatred for the kind of republicans that support this type of stuff. Unfortunately it's a growing percentage of them so yeah.

je_t.aime_canardi hope you're right and we figure it out like the ozone, but at the moment with increasingly volatile weather patterns and a significant growth in number of extreme weather events it's not looking good
We fixed the ozone because people listened to the science, and we made sweeping global changes to reduce our effect for the good of everyone.
If the ozone issue happened today there is a 100% chance that 20% of the country would deny it exists into their graves and another 20% would say that its not worth the money to switch from CFCs to save the ozone, and another 5% would say its all a global conspiracy built by the Jews to destroy the CFC industry and funnel the money into kid fucking or something.
When do we kill this thread and start a thread just called TRUMP!! Election was a year ago
I do enjoy seeing Trump on his morning TV briefings. You hear nothing but constant Trump criticisms from friends and news which is deserved but I just like hearing words uncut from his mouth. He’s always good for a few laughs (20 mins ago he called Min Gov Tim Walz a pathetic little puppy lol). But at the same time he is actively threatening JPow to lower interest rates he still blames Biden for inflation. And he just took credit for the largest enlistment of military and police ever—it’s not patriotism, you ruined the economy. Funny how conservatives have been complaining about government spending and deep state but when they get the chance to make government bug to build their army of military and police they’re all for it

I think what you leave out here is the degree of consolidation that exists for a bunch of industries to the point where most people can't really make meaningful choices about who to buy from. Now I agree with personal responsibility, and I think it's to silly to solely blame corporations without examining lifestyle choices and whatnot. But look at the small amount companies in tech, agriculture, airlines, oil and gas, etc that dominate those markets.
ParkingLotPissYeah, placing the blame on normal people is very counterproductive.

We can baby people, but that won’t fix anything.
And once again you completely miss my point - all people want is for you (I mean "you" who actively engage in the climate discourse on the side of the commonly accepted science) to acknowledge that perhaps our whole climate system is so complex that there is a chance that you could be wrong and that there is a 'small' possibility that climate science isn't as easy as 'your lifestyle is bad, therefore you need to uproot your entire life because 'Isay so'". You talk about anti-intellectualism? What seems anti-intellectual is not accepting that there are counter-arguments that could be valid and you refuse to accept it under the guise of 'well he must be a quack, awe his feelings are hurt'. Thats why so many people go on about "Medieval Warm Period" or the "Little Ice Age".
I am 100% on bored with environmentalism - have you ever done an end of season lift walk to clean up the crap people drop from chairlifts? I think cleaning up pollution and opening more public greenspaces and greenscaping our cities is more important than the endless arguments about gasses when we don't even fully understand how our own Suns changing temperatures, or our planets position in orbit could affect climate.
Get people on board with keeping their own backyards tidy and their neighbourhoods and you'll see a difference.
