You don't negotiate in a win-lose strategy and expect the losers to be friendly in the future. He's ruining our reputation in the global economy and the confidence of investments in US assets. Reshoring doesn't happen overnight, if at all. And even though he temporarily backed off the bigger tariffs, he still is going forward with the massive China ones and 10% across the board for everyone else. The majority of economists, ya know the people who are actually experts on this stuff, disagree with his methods. The inflation data this week was from actions pre-Trump. It's gonna be nasty when we start seeing the real impact of what he's doing. This hits America's pockets both for importing and exporting. Idk why people can't seem to understand who pays tariffs. Then you are slaughtering our exports because countries are retaliating with their own tarrifs or refusing to work with US suppliers. I could go on all day. This week we saw an “Emergency” executive order that opened 112 million acres of National Forest in the Western US up for fast tracked logging permits; included in the 112 million acres are every National Forest in Washington, Oregon and California. The declaration ends environmental review of logging permits and limits public hearings on the proposals which locks out locals who have valid concerns about overdevelopment and the environmental impacts of strip logging our National Forests.

I live in the middle of a National Forest in Oregon. We need active management of our public forests to mitigate fire risk, which would include cutting down SOME trees.
We will be so fucked if they just clear cut the forests. This sounds like another Trump action that falls under the auspices of a "good cause", but is just going to fuck us and make some people money.

Oh for sure, responsible forestry requires cutting some trees; used to volunteer with a local org that did trail maintenance and fire mitigation in our town’s woods before I moved.
unfortunately DOGE or whomever already laid off people responsible for fire mitigation in USFS. Meanwhile, Senator Tim Sheehy (R-MT) has proposed eliminating USFS wildfire aircraft inspections.
Sheehy owns a company (Bridger Aerospace) that contracts aircraft to USFS so it’s just a blatant kickback to himself at the expense of firefighters’ safety.
So yeah, your worst assumptions about this administration’s approach to forestry is correct.

So 2 years of cutting federal jobs (many of which as we’ve come to find are “actual” jobs), “fixing” systems that don’t need to be fixed, and gutting agencies that develop U.S. soft power will result in less money saved than the 150-175 billion dollar increase to the military budget Hegseth has said will be done this year.
And of course, that’s all before the estimated 3-5 trillion dollar deficit increase under the coming policies.
Oh and illegal immigrants are allowed to stay now as long as they work in ag or hospitality.
On the bright side at least all of our allies hate us and boo our national anthem now.

I respected what he was trying to do. He was doing a silent protest of something he felt was an injustice. He wasn’t standing there booing.
