JuviticusI'm going to continue enjoying not living in your country. Ooga booga
eheathYou're pedalling his bullshit and you don't even realize it, jesus.
VTshredder69Yea living in the wealthiest country in the history of the world sucks dude.
Goretex_VidalWe’ve been in austerity measures since the ‘90s with Clinton’s welfare and housing reforms followed by Bush’s NCLB pinning Ed funding to how good a kid is at bubbling in scantrons; the only thing austerity measures result in are the upward transfer of wealth as social services are privatized.
SlushSeasonThis isn't a bicycle, the word is peddling.
And once again, no. Trump might be peddling bullshit, but in this context, i don't care. High tariffs against China and its cronies are necessary.
Since the 90s we have been financing our excessive consumption in this country via national debt and industry/technology transfer (china building cheap shit, and in exchange they steal our tech and our factories close). It is not sustainable and needs to stop.
You're ignorant to how bad the problem is and can't see beyond "orange man bad".
JuviticusNobody's saying it's not a problem, everybody's saying this isn't the solution. Also you don't care? I envy being in a financial position to have such blind faith
SlushSeasonI don't care what his claimed reasoning is. How does his claimed reasoning affect you financially?
I'm not happy with how it's implemented either, but I'm glad they're finally doing something about it.
We should have had a graduated tariff of 1-2% per month starting in 2015, but the government still naively thought they could make china play fair until 2019. Then Biden did nothing about the problem from 2021-2024.
Starting a 3-5% per month tariff right now would be a better solution too. But i can't make trump do that, so I'll take what i can get.

.MASSHOLE.You mean this is nothing? Same with this?
These are the kinds of tariffs we should support - Most of these are nascent industries globally and the US should, given our relative size and overall brain power, dominate them.
Solar, EV, minerals, chips, etc. are so incredibly in-demand and we need to take advantage of that.
But targeting bullshit such as low-cost, cheaply-made, goods is dumb. It benefits no one. Those products aren't ever going to come back to the US.

JuviticusHis claimed reasoning has no basis in reality, and that means his policies are recklessly pushing us towards a global recession based on nothing
eheathoh no i spelled something wrong on a skiing forum. shut up dude.
You are literally repeating what trump and his administration is saying, you are a puppet.
VTshredder69The government is here to help us
eheathMost of the Government is, Trump is not. Most people in powerful position in the government do not agree with what Trump is doing. But good attempt to try and insult someone instead of responding constructively. par for the course.
VTshredder69Being the largest consumer in the world has some claims as to why we charge people for shipping shit here. Because we buy 30% of the worlds production.
Not to mention there are tariffs on us for buying their stuff at the highest rate on the planet.
That sounds like a basis to me.
VTshredder69I'll take a par all day long.
Just the fact that you think government cares about the people while they all get rich is fucking hilarious.

JuviticusMan, you said yourself Trump is a narcissist. You complain about politicians only in it for the money, yet you put someone like Trump in the Oval Office. The hypocrisy is wild
SlushSeasonHoly shit man, learn some reading comprehension. Trump is NOT calling these tariffs austerity measures!
And lmao i gave you gentle correction the first time you mentioned pedaling. But reading comprehension isn't your strong suit...
JuviticusSo buying 30% of the worlds production, is the basis to charge American importers tariffs?
Also yeah there are tariffs for buying their stuff at the highest rates on the planet. It's 145% and you can thank your president for that.
Want to try again?
.MASSHOLE.You mean this is nothing? Same with this?

JuviticusThey're not saying "austerity measures", but they are saying "inrich America" which if you can read between the lines mean essentially the same thing in this context. So I def agree with eheath that you are pushing their narrative and don't even know it, y'all are just using different words
VTshredder69It's almost like they want the largest consumer in the world to buy internally to raise GDP and use tariffs to minimalize the deficit.
Crazy Macroeconomic concept.
It's like going to the gym. 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 5 years.
At what point does it suck. 1 week sucks 1 month sucks by 1 year you're in the routine and by 5 years you're jacked.
SlushSeasonAustere means simple, plain, unardorned.
Austerity measures are changes that make people give up some luxuries and live more simply for a time to improve a country's economic situation.
These are the opposite of "enrich america".
eheathThey used to, until our country decided that electing a (failure, nepo baby) billionaire to office was a good idea.
abjectwoeTo be fair, I don't think they really used to either.
I'd argue Obama/Biden/Bush presidencies were "better" than those of Trump, but only relatively and not on an absolute scale.
Obama with the banks. Bush with war profiteering and the patriot act. Biden never did anything about the massive PPP fraud.
Rich still fuck us, regardless of who is president, though this presidency has us reach new levels of depravity.

eheaththe fact you are focusing on the use of one word says it all my dude. but you can keep acting like Trump is doing the right thing, bury that head deep in the sand pal.
SlushSeasonBuddy, your entire argument was that I'm repeating what trump says. I've made it clear that I'm not.
Austerity measures are a common lever for governments to use to deal with public debt. Than why i keep using the term, it's commonly used and well understood.
Trump refuses to acknowledge that these tariffs are an austerity measure. They clearly are, and i believe that they (in relation to China) are necessary. Once again, i don't care about Trump's motivations in this context. There has been insufficient action on this front for the past decade and I'm glad to finally see some progress.
SlushSeasonYeah, the opposite of "we're all gonna be rich"
We're all gonna be poor for a bit and it's necessary to put us in a more stable position.
VTshredder69Arlgiht Trump just increased our deficit by 5 trillion. Fucking pisses me off. Might have to jump ship. Idiot promising t o reduce it and now he's fucking increasing it.

ParkingLotPissWait, what?! You voted for a liar, and then he lied. Holy shit, this world is almost funny, but mostly just sad.
Citizens getting deported, tottal lack of intellectual understanding of literally everything,Disrespect to veterans,
makes a fool of himself on the global stage.
I don’t know, I don’t feel like listing all this shit that trump supporters overlook, but my point is, all that shit didn’t tip you off, but oh shit, he increased the deficit and now you have a problem.
Go fuck yourself
JuviticusI kinda hope he tries it tbh. As insane as it would be I wanna see how people react

VTshredder69Let that hate out!!!
I don't have the problem I'm voicing my concerns. You have some hatred in you. go see a doctor
JuviticusWhen the administration says "inriching America" they are referring to the state itself. America is currently in debt so to inrich it would be to pay off the debt. Hence "inriching America" in this context, becomes the same as "austerity measures". It's basic critical thinking. And idk how many time I have to say it but people cannot afford to be any poorer than they are now. Your views truly reek of disposable income
**This post was edited on Apr 10th 2025 at 4:55:43pm
ParkingLotPissYeah, voice your concerns but prioritize them. If you actually think that increasing the deficit is a better reason to "jump ship" than all the other shit, then you either have remarkably poor understanding of current affairs, economics, human rights, and American law, OR you're a terrible person.
I don't think hatred is the right word, more so I just have basic empathy and understand the implications of the president's actions.
SlushSeasonWhat. You're doing some serious mental gymnastics there and the word is "enrich."
And yeah, i know people are poor. How do you think we got into this situation? Is continuing to outsource our economy to China somehow going to pull us back up?
As for the "reek of disposable income" attacks, do you think I should be embarrassed that I save some money each month? I drive a cheap used car, I do my own home maintenance, I live with a roommate, I cook my own meals. America consumes without producing and that's what's gotten us into this mess. We're going to have to consume less while we build the capacity to produce again.
VTshredder69YOu have empathy and yet tell Trump voters to go fuck themselves. Dam man over half the voting population of the country. Gotta wear and tear ya a bit.
Pay a doctor who at least will pretend to care about your problems.
FUCK youuuuuu i have empathyyyyyyy
ParkingLotPissBeing empathetic is not the same thing as being nice.
I think you should have a high quality of life; I don't think you deserve to suffer. That being said, I think you're a fucking idiot whose unwillingness (or maybe inability) to think critically causes you to make shitty decisions that, in some cases, cause unnecessary suffering for other people.
I don't hate you, but go fuck yourself.
VTshredder69100% of trump haters blindly got the MRNA Covid vaccine.
Talk about critical thinking LOL.
