Have you ever wondered how it would actually be as a video game character? Well Woodsy and the crew got about as close as one could possible get last week at X Games Oslo...
Picture yourself at stratospheric heights stood atop a skyscraper of a drop-in ramp about to descend at an almost vertical angle through a tiny hole in the roof of Oslo’s Telenor Area into a world class jump and fly, no rather: soar, above the heads of thousands of gawping fans and with not only survival as your primary objective, but the taste of X Games glory daring you into throwing the biggest and best tricks the world has ever seen and tempting you ever further into doing it again.
We can all get the taste in video games however the true grit and determination, consequence and pain, misery and elation of shredding at this stage cannot be artificially reconstructed. This is the premise behind this series, strap in and go truly behind the scenes and see what it is and what it takes to live your dreams.

It’s December 3rd 2019 and we’re deep in the annual, pre-season dash around the alps. Currently en route from Stubai, Austria to Livigno, Italy, we take a pit stop at Corvatch, Switzerland to check out their early season park set up and the stop definitely didn’t disappoint... Until it did.

After leaving the remote South Pacific Island paradise that is New Zealand, the boys find themselves deep in the heart of the mother land and just in time for the Telegraph’s London Ski & Snowboard Show. It’s always a pleasure hang out with the Planks Clothing crew as well as everyone involved in the passion fuelled British freeski and snowboard scene!
However it’s not for long, a fleeting visit you might say, before the international calling of World Cup glory can be heard emitting from Northern Italy... Next stop Modena, the home of Ferrari and Lamborghini and now the home of what was potentially the most unbelievably advanced Freeski big air event that ever happened! Woodsy doesn’t have skis, Max dishes out high fives, Brody’s camera gear, much like everyone’s everything get soaking wet as the heaven’s open during qualification and as can now be expected week in week out - the skiing is mind bendingly out of control! (Excuse the audio malfunctioning due to the rain, I’m sure you can cope 😉)

When life throws you lemons (or a dislocated collarbone) I suppose there’s nothing else for it than to drag your sleepy ass to the other side of the planet, meet up with all of your incredible friends, grab a microphone instead of skis and go hard in the commentary booth instead of on the mountain!

The time has come to break down Woodsy’s dislocated SC joint injury. For over a month the man has been down in New Zealand living and breathing rehab and recovery. What does it take to be an action sport athlete... an extreme sports person... the kind of fool who throws them self from massive jumps into oblivion... ?Well you have to be ready and willing to accept the crashes and falls.
Despite pride in what we do the old saying, “if you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough” couldn’t be more relevant - it’s time to be tough. “The measure of a man is not how he acts in times of ease but times of adversity and conflict”... it’s time to be tough.

Huge respect to my good friend Jossi for well and truly joining the ranks of Freeski royalty. After ticking every possible box around the globe to earn this status, back at his home resort Cardrona Alpine Resort, NZ he now hosts easily one of the raddest, truest and incredibly well attended events of the year. Jam session style and rider judged, with perfect weather and no time constraints, world class features and attendance from almost all freeski & snowboard’s current Jedi Masters, the fourth annual, deservedly named Jossi Wells Invitational just happened and with another year it was another huge success!
Thank you so much Jossi, Cardrona, Wanaka and Queenstown for hosting us and to everybody who made this blindingly thrilling event happen. What a treat it was to watch the world’s best unleash their furious talent under Tom’s Rock, no holds barred as a nod of respect to the man Mr. Wells who brought everyone down to his home on this beautiful spit of land hanging onto the bottom of the world. Certainly TC casts an eye each year to grace this spectacle of an event.
