So much hate. I love how there are people doing skilled labor making less than that.

Also I bet a bunch of the people campaigning because they can't live on minimum wage have iphones and data plans, and waste money on useless stuff. I can agree our economy is in the shitter, but come on.

If you don't think 8.75 is enough money, find another job or work your way up. People quit fast food jobs all the time. If you aren't useless and hang around for a while you'll move up. I'm not saying you're going straight to the top, but you can definitely work your way up. You might not get rich but you can make a little more $$$.

Everything in society is crazy expensive too every night I go out and get drunk I spend over 100 bucks even quiet nights and I don't drink that much.

I was travelling last couple weeks I spent over 10 dollars a day on non alcoholic drinks when I was in Las Vegas just buying bottles of Aquafina and Soda and Juice at 7-11 that is just to hydrate I wasn't drinking out of the fountain or going to the super market when Im in hotels thats not even talking abotu feeding myself. Life is expensive as fuck slaves in teh south in the 1800s had it better than people who work fast food.

Which is it dude does your job suck and you are no better off than someone working McDonalds or do you suck and you are that nasty an individual. From reading your posts it must be one or the other.


I love the idea that you can't live off minimum wage.

There were times in this country where there was legitimate poverty. People were fucking broke. Now we have enough money to buy all this stupid shit but we're "poor".

And if you're doing the most basic entry level job, you should get a salary that reflects that. Regardless if the minimum wage goes up, there are other jobs that should see a boost first.

The whole campaign for 15 deserves a slap in the face not an increase in wages. Instead of trying to better yourselves beg for more money.

The poor american citizens in some of our early cities didn't even have close to what the poor have now. Kids going to work at 12 or 13 because if they didn't the family wouldn't have food, might even get split up and taken away. Just to get food and a place to live, no iphones, no cable packages, etc.

I'm not suggesting that most people in the world should go without all the comforts we've come to expect, but it's a totally different game.

Don't drink so much or drink at home or with friends.

The level of entitlement far exceeds the job skills for a lot of people. I should be able to work the most entry level now, and make twice as much as people living off that wage currently.

Instead of giving people more money, they should teach people how to make a budget.

Like others have mentioned, flipping burgers isn't a $15/hour job. They are minimum wage due to the experience it takes to get the job, minimal. I work as an EMT-B while going to college full time, I went through training to save lives, I got First Aid, Pediatric Training, and FEMA certification all while making 8.90 per hour. I think of the wage increase as bullshit since it is only solving the money issue for a short period of time until the market corrects itself.

Grouping all people together while making a generalization, nice. Some people don't get the chance to go to college and cant get a better job, those are the people we are talking about. Not the 18 year old living at home driving the car his parents bought him.

In some areas like nyc yeah I don't doubt that, I'm not saying it should be 15, and that every one need more money, but I think a single mom with no other source of income other then her job and welfare I think it could be more than 8$ you know who ends up picking up the bill when a worker cant make ends meat?

Yeah don't worry about goals because whatever you do, you'll know that you can always wash dishes for 15 an hour(or whatever you want)

No consequences.

And let's say you have a job at fast food, stay with it for a while and move up. The pay probably wont increase that much but it will to an extent. Then from there you might have some management experience, use that to get a better job somewhere else.

If you stay with a company, aren't lazy, and do good work you can move up in anything. Will you start making 6 figures? Probably not, but you don't need to be at minimum wage.

Also plenty of people learning trades and getting decent enough jobs without going to college.

There are options. Acting like there's nothing that people can do to avoid minimum wage is ridiculous though

Yeah but their are plenty of opportunities. Also this is the type of job that people quit fairly regularly. Just stay their and dont suck and as people leave, quit, and get fired you'll have a decent shot at moving up.

I mean even the kids who take these jobs generally quit and find better jobs all the time.

Why should the minimum wage be doubled because people didn't use any of their life to work upwards at their job, learn a trade, get an education, or try and snag a better paying job.

I mean I totally agree, not everyone can be a manager. You need to fill the lower jobs and there are far more of those. I just don't think that's a good reason to double the minimum wage.

Also you can apply online for a lot of jobs these days. Just send out applications on the regular hoping something will land. If you get a good opportunity don't blow it. Also never burn bridges. If people have a shitty employment history, quit regularly, suck at the jobs they have, I can't really feel that bad for them.

Just my opinion though

there are waaaaaay more dumb, talentless people out there than anyone wants to admit.

80% of folks are struggling to do just enough to not get fired, 10% are going above and beyond and will be "successful", 10% are dragging the company down by doing as little as possible and not giving two shits.

the cream always rises to the top, but it takes much, much longer for some than others because of circumstances beyond their control.


Salary minimums should be put into place such that the bottom 20% of salaries in a given municipal area shall be not less than 30% of the top 20% of salaries. Supply and demand should always rule our economy, but we have a duty as moral, ethical, first world humans to provide a minimum level of care for our fellow man.



More importantly, why the fuck are people donating to help save stray cats and dogs instead of saving human-fucking-lives? If i was emperor of the world i would dictate that all charities must directly save human lives.

PS, fat people and the accepted bigotry is ruining america. Also, in my experience, Europe is just as if not more bigoted than the US.

this was by far one of the stupidest things I've ever read. People who work fast food, have it easy as fuck. Your responsibilities include cleaning the place, making food, and taking orders. That's the responsibility of the entire fucking store, not just one person. And $100 a day on booze is retarded, the fact that you're going out and drinking that much is even more so.

Where I work, where I'm making just a little more than $15/hr I have to drive a water truck, with 5000L of water, through a narrow ass town, water a construction site whenever it gets dusty, water some hydroseed two fucking towns away, labor and operate machines. Not let it get too muddy, sweep sidewalks, clean equipment, polish the owners boat occasionally and keep a fucking pipe pit nice looking in the spring months.

I'M not complaining about how much I work, but I do believe how much you're responsible for and how much experience you have should reflect your pay. No one should be trying to sustain living off a job at mcdonals, because it's not a real job.

I manage and operate a food trailer for a small business, including trailering the until to all sorts of different locations . On top of that I do part time backend operations for the same business (z-reports, bills, filing, credit statements, etc). On top of that I do deliveries for said business. On top of that I do front end operations for the same business (opening/closing storefront, cleaning, processing, etc) You ever clean a federally inspected cutting room in a butcher shop? Thats an hour+ of hard cleaning in a room thats 42 degrees. I worked 7 days a week this summer and a minumum of 50 hours. On top of that Im a full time student. Who has classes 4 days a week then commutes 2 1/2 hours to work 3 9 hour days before commuting another 2 1/2 hours to go back to school. And I make less than you.

And I didnt even mention how im picking up a second job (hopefully as a digger) for the winter months.

Slightly off topic but the types of jobs that are available to non-college graduates has changed dramatically over the years. When our parents were younger and before then, this nation had 100,000,000 less people, only 40 years ago. Back then, there was a lot of construction jobs building new developments, and labor jobs available at every turn. This includes all aspects of new construction. People learned trades and there was room for these people to get jobs. There was more warehouses and America was producing more providing more jobs. There wasn't giant super stores so there was more small business. Just more jobs for 100 million less people.



Fast forward to the 90's/2000's. Companies are closing or moving overseas. There is 350 million Americans. Less new buildings so less openings in all aspects of the construction world and labor jobs unless your in an up and coming area. Unions (not against this). Jobs have shifted toward service jobs like fast food, super stores, more nursing etc. So why shouldn't these folks get paid a better wage? How many college graduates can't even find a job in their chosen degree? I know too many.



And so what if minimum wage folks have iPhones and nice shoes? Who doesn't like an iPhone and a new pair of shoes? They are human too. Don't some of you splurge and wind up eating eggs and ramen noodles for 2 days before payday? Lets view some of their lives from their perspective. If you were them, in their position, what makes you think you'd be any better than them? And spend your money more wisely? Cause you wouldn't. You would be them. Influenced the same way over the years making the same decisions. I am you. You are me. Just different life experiences (and opportunities).

This country would fail over night if every minimum wage worker decided to quit and work for themselves.

You can get financing almost ANYTHING these days. Plenty of people drive new cars that are too expensive, live in houses that are too big, buy new technology they do not need, because they can finance it all. Hell, most credit card companies only require people to pay back the tiniest percentages of what they actually owe.

I get paid minimum wage. Well it'd be sweet to make 15$ An hour but it would bankrupt the bussiness I work for imediatley. And there is no way in hell I should make 15$ an hour to rack and maintain water craft and run a store. There is no special skill involved. It sucks to work 10hr shifts in 80 degrees but that's how it is. If I want to get paid 15$ an hr I should do a job that would be worth that.

LonelyI get paid minimum wage. Well it'd be sweet to make 15$ An hour but it would bankrupt the bussiness I work for imediatley. And there is no way in hell I should make 15$ an hour to rack and maintain water craft and run a store. There is no special skill involved. It sucks to work 10hr shifts in 80 degrees but that's how it is. If I want to get paid 15$ an hr I should do a job that would be worth that.


Your job probably involves more skill than these people striking and protesting too.

There's nothing wrong with any of it, but if you can't afford stuff you can't afford stuff. A society that encourages people to live above their means, and now maybe one with no consequences.


Don't worry because even if you're working part time washing dishes you'll be able to pay rent on a decent place while wasting some money here and there.


Instead of giving everyone more money, maybe teach people how to spend more reasonably.

I mean look at all the people driving a new car. People that definitely can't afford it in terms of a reasonable budget but they go out and do it. That's the way a lot of people spend across the board.

I'm not suggesting everybody that's struggling is wasting their money but I think people are over dramatizing the plight of the minimum wage worker.



I hope you don't support Bernie Sanders then. And not everyone views the world like you do. We live in a consume consume consume then you die society and nothing is changing.

I don't. Also I know this. I'm not right about everything, maybe not anything, just expressing my opinion.

A lot of people have an unrealistic, utopian view of the world.

Probably 3/4 of the people on the minimum wage raise campaign have never explored the issue outside of simply wanting higher wages, and reading the occasional facebook meme.

Strike for wages is a thing, but most of those people don't care(probably don't know) about inflation or have any good ideas for curbing it. The purchasing power of the USD will decline and then what. Strike for higher wages again?

Nice reactionary approach they got going on there.

And that's arguing if I even agreed with them doubling the wage in the first place.

People far over value their self worth these days imo.

Too many people think they are too good for their jobs and place in life, and think that they deserve more. the issue is everyone is nowadays told they are special and smart and a winner. that is false. there are very few special people, few smart people, and even fewer winners.

I have, and I honestly felt that I didn't deserve more than the $8/hr I was paid. Whenever my coworkers bitched about not making a ton of money working a "whopping" 40 hrs a week making pizzas I wanted to slap them.


Granite_StateI highly doubt anyone who make 20-30k a year is living abovr their means.
