RubberSoulmy opinion on the bar? i dislike it. and i think it might have something to do with my opinion that the new format is distracting. if it were up to me, it'd be gone
Ah distracting, that's what I think it is. With a black bar idea, albeit it looking kinda ugly on first glance, what the person is saying is essentially highlighted. From a design standpoint (IMO of course) the gradient molds one reply into another, which kind of detracts from the text I guess? The bar below the gradient can either be looked at as helping a big, or further cluttering it, as it kind of clashes with the point of a gradient.
Regardless, I actually like the way the new layout looks/looked and I know that later on, when the forums get another rehaul people will be saying, "I liked the version from 2014 better." So there's that. IMO, it's a ton more user friendly and not nearly as daunting to get into posting
As for the gradient bar conversation. Just leave it as is for some time. I think people will grow to like it.
NinetyFourToday's changes are absolute money, love em. That, with the launch of the other items you just mentioned Bishop, things will be pretty damn awesome.
It looks prime now, mobile is awesome. Personally I'm loving it.
DON'T TOUCH IT ANYMORE. IT'S GODDAMN PERFECT RIGHT NOW.
The gradient is solved. The whitspace/brightness argument is subjective nonsense that many people agree they've gotten used to. We're getting into personal qualms and getting away from what works for the site.
This works for the site. Everything about it is 100% money.
And to the people saying, "No, it sucks now. Tweaks are needed" I want you to think back to a month ago when the #1 topic on site design is that it looked like shit. Stop finding things YOU don't like and think about what works for the site.

you've post multiple times saying this same thing-- can't you see that what youre saying is just as subjective and arbitrary as anything else said? youre drying a line in the sand that instructs others to stop saying where a line should be...
and the second half of what you said goes back to the imaginary form vs function when on this subject theyre interdependent. stop discouraging the dudes from listening to feedback and tweaking, theyre doing a great job trying to refine this huge overhaul and im really confused why youre so passionate about no one offering their opinion anymore when bishop is ACTIVELY ASKING for it

PS no hard feelings i always read your posts
The posts I made were pretty much all about the gradient, which has been fixed. I'm saying the line should be drawn exactly where we are right now. Not saying we should stop giving input about the site, but the topics we've been beating to death for the past two days have hit the happiest medium they're going to find. You can't please everyone.
If I was writing the site, would I change things from what they are now? Probably, cause I like more color. But I think given the opinions of everyone and what they're shooting for, we've hit perfection.
Yes, they're actively asking for input, but the feeling I get it that Bishop wants to move past this whole concept of whiteness, negative space, and distraction. Give it a couple weeks, see if it grows on you. I did for me in a day. If everyone still hates it, they can come back and make some changes. The sooner we all agree to meet in the middle, the sooner Bishop, nopoles, and this fantastic crew can move on and fix the stuff that is actually A) broken, or B) way more fun.

PS: never hard feelings. It's just the internet.
word fair enough. it's already grown on me, shit, humans get used to shit really quickly, that's just how it is. i'd love to see that dumb bar gone but after that i promise to shut my whore mouth
also i should make sure i know how to embed..(also speaking of which i assume the preview button will return? that thing is the shit)
Note: We no longer accept video embed code. Its a really big security concern, so now you can only add YouTube/Vimeo URLs that will convert to players. We can add more sites too as they pop up.
Also, we made the quote button directly clickable.
I really appreciate that you guys think we've got this good now. Please, if others really hate it, or after a few days you truly can't stand it we can re-open this.
Not sure if this has been addressed lately, but on my desktop when I click the (page #) from my threads, it still takes me to the first page of the thread

And that's it. IMO the new layout is now better than the old one, new features and mobile compatibility outweigh the slightly increased size. I like, also it's awesome how you went about making changes!
On forum posts not appearing, I had a thought a while back but I waited to test it again before saying it here. I'm pretty confident in it now.
The problem probably has something to do with browser caches. The cache isn't reloading when you load a thread you were just looking at, say you clicked my threads or you just posted in it, so you see the thread as you did. I think there's a few lines of code that need to be put in to force the browser to reload from the server rather than the cache, that should solve the problem.

disagree. karma text and the post count should be black like they were before. looks much better.
The new split quote buttons to quick-quote or multi-quote are fucking sweet.
This one isn't a major issue for most but I personally hate it. In the news editor, the buttons are ghosted for editing, publishing, deleting, and don't appear until you pan over them. They're also very tightly grouped and fairly small. Is there anyway you could make them larger, solid, and slightly more spaced?
Mr.BishopBecause its awesome that people can't edit their posts. Everyone has always voted that the culture of newschoolers is made better by no post editing.
That's why. However, its super necessary for B/S/T - so we added it.
It could be added to the rest of the site, but we're not going to do that yet.
I havent really been following this, but how do we edit in b/s/t? and i have noticed that the latest post in a thread will sometimes disappear until i refresh the page.
NinetyFourVideo posts... The previews don't show u, is there any way you guys can enable that?
We'll work on that. Sorry that was a solution that we put in place for videos, and because we updated the GUI it rolled it out across the forums. Its more of an issue here, so we're going to work on it.
brotothis is purely an aesthetic problem as the average person won't notice and it doesn't have an effect on your karma score, but this still is a thing

Future request.. can we please get a notification when we're quoted? Not some huge pop up and sound like Facebook, just a small little red flag with a number near Message Inbox in the top left.

i would love a little flag next to the thread in my threads. i feel like that would be cleaner. that way you know which thread too.
I get the little delete thread [x] on mobile while looking at ski gabber or non-ski gabber. it doesn't do anything unfortunately. I guess a little bug where the mods [x] is showing up?
Not sure if it's been said yet, but clicking on the last page of a thread from a cult, it links you to the first page of the cult. This is not an issue for the main forums, just the cults.

We've got a plan for notifications, and this is on the list. Sadly a bit of a bigger change than we can bang out right now, but you'll see it soon enough.

Kinda minor, but an annoyance to me, on an iPad (mini if it makes a difference) there's no more link back to my profile (that I can find). It's next to "inbox" on an iPhone, but not there on an iPad.

Yeah. It pops up in landscape mode on an iPad, but not in portrait.
