Mr.BishopI sort of think that its one of those things you just need to get used to. Making it different colors would really start to make the forum pretty rainbow.... your eyes will need to adapt to where its located.
When we launched it to the left of the post, everyone freaked out too stating it made that area too cluttered. It was very quick before everyone got used to that and now they are mad its moved from there.
Of course, we *can* move it back, just the initial testers actually came to prefer it at the top right after a few days.
What about switching the voting with the timestamp on the left side? It's just a pain in the ass to look over there to see a post count (that sounds really lazy when i read it...). Maybe i'll get used to it, but it also seems like the one problem everyone is having

i think this is a great idea. the problem with it being on the right is that sometimes when im going through a thread i just look for the highest rated comments as im scanning through. its not that we cant get used to it being on the other side but it makes it impossible to scan the posts and be aware of the rating at the same time since we have to look to the left to scan the posts (since we read from left to right) and look to the right for the rating.
How can I put my words in between one quote or another?
Also, I speak for the a certain type of colorblind folks when I say I cannot see the page tabs on the thread listing for multipage threads. I just see a number. The gradients are not friendly to me either, because that is what colored blindness stems from; trouble seeing shades.

p-foActually, the issue is that you guys made the lines between the post listings WAY lighter, and almost impossible to see. Also want to add that I love the switch to the larger default player for videos.
Yeah, we upgraded all the media integration stuff. Plus we fixed the security hole of previously allowing raw embeds which was a nightmare. We can also have more fun with embeds and media integration now.

Oh come on... sure reddit has it at the left (and they're a very prominent example which may be a touche sir for you) but you can't actually say EVERY site has it at the left. Plenty of places have their up/down voting on the right (ahem pinkbike).
I'm not convinced completely that top right for voting is a bad idea. Open your mind to it, sleep on it and see what you think tomorrow.

YES. exactly. it makes casually scanning a thread more of a chore. if youre gonna read through every post in a thread it doesnt make much of a difference but for scanning its more annoying

Hmm works for me on that thread. But try going to the first page on this thread, page 5 is missing. I guess my post was just an assumption based off of what I saw on this thread
At least it's easier to embed now, and multi-quote can be very useful, but I feel like mods are going to have to step up even more now because of just how easy it is to post stuff.
Forums are only dead when people stop contributing to them. If you talk, they will come. Take it upon yourself to contribute to mod communication by keeping it live and fresh.
Honestly, we reach out for assistance testing this stuff and are usually met with either a dead wall, or a lack of people actually really deeply testing things. So behind the scenes, it really helps to have mod input and mods checking out the place where we post this kind of stuff.
Why don't you start a thread in mod discussion about getting mod discussion back on track and we'll go from there?
it'd be cool if names stayed as a link with original name colour when you quote someone instead of just black. noticed all the quotes before the update are like that but all the new ones are just black.

I actually don't mind the voting being on the right but the whole comment box seems so clunky and unappealing now. The spacing is weird, the colors are weird, the contrast is weird, I think if that gets fixed it would make threads look so much better.

Pinkbike only has the voting system in the media/news comment sections. The post rating system doesn't exist in the forums themselves. I honestly like it that way.
Since we're not getting rid of the forum post ratings, I don't mind them on the right, I just think that the quote button, the rating buttons, etc, should be a matching but distinguishing color (again, like the blue quote matching the blue member names on pinkbike). I will say that I also really dislike how white pinkbike is and I loved how the old NS site was the complete oposite of sterile pinkbike color.
Another issue I noticed is that I can only click on random pictures to enlarge them. I haven't figured out a pattern yet on which ones I can click and which I can't. It still seems random so I'm sure saying this doesn't even help, but I just wanted to bring that to your attention.
Now that I've said a few negative (but hopefully constructive) things, I'll balance it with some positives. I love that you guys are still putting effort into keeping the site up to date but still listening to the users for input on how to incorporate their ideas (and complaints) into making the site more awesometastic.
Mr.BishopPlease define 'wonky' a bit more - the idea here was to get a new foundation that will help us add cool features like OP in Reply, multiquote, etc.
By "wonky" I mean the previous design was easier to read. The increased white space is harder on the eyes after a while. The "Create Thread" button at the top seems out of place too. It's obviously an important feature, it just looks strangely alone at the top. A lot of the buttons seem to just be floating without any areas of focus too. Maybe it's because the background and navigation bars on the top are so dark and contrast so heavily with the white/light gray redesign of the center section. I mean, I come on NS for skiing and the community, not the website design, but the old design was cleaner and easier to read than any forum on the internet.
I also miss the ability to quote somebody without having to check a box and then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, but that's pretty minor. It's ALL pretty minor, but a little graphic fine-tuning would be helpful for readability.
I talked so much shit about the thread voting thing at first, which turned out to be a good move, so I'm done criticizing any changes on this site again without giving them a shot first. Overall, you guys murdered it with the new features.

Side note, one thing about the new quote feature, you can edit other peoples quotes to anything, which is something I like about the old design, you couldn't fuck with what you were quoting. Also +1 on the old quote reply.
dont like that you cop an ad before a youtube video if youve posted it in a thread section.. you get the usual windells ad or whatever and then you get another youtube ad ontop of that. havent read through this thread yet but the preview reply should come back aswell
In the "Best Photography" thread, we've long had to click on a photo and re-open it in a different window in order to see how the photo really is supposed to look, because NS absolutely WRECKS photos when you embed them, for some reason. (the colours get fucked up, and overall the whole image gets pixelated, loaded with shitty artifacts, and it looks crummy)
Though this has been annoying to deal with on it's own, it's also somewhat necessary in order to see a more intricate details of a posted image, or just admire it better in general.
...however NOW, we can't even click and allow the photo to open up and enlarge. All of the old photos allow you to do this still, but none of the photos posted since the new format went into play.
it would help a lot if you guys could quickly fix the image issue going on here... THANKS!
