I dislike the fact the thread page buttons are not next to the thread link anymore, i assume i could get used to this, but just a #firstworldproblem comment
I'm OK with the change but I think there's a few things that need tweaking for this current change to really work. Note: I'm viewing the site on Firefox
1. The site is agonizingly slow right now. Every other website is loading fine. I feel like I'm back on dial-up. Loading the reply screen literally took a full minute.
2. On the new reply system, when you click "click to expand" under the "original topic" part, nothing happens except for the quoted part shrinking and the "click to expand" button disappearing. Maybe it should be either changed to "click to compress" or be the button should remain after clicking it to expand it again.
3. Multi-quote is great but we need an option to reply to the thread without having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.
4. The white and gray format makes it really harsh on the eyes. Needs more contrast.
5. Preview Post needs to come back
6. When in GUI mode AND doing a multi-quote I can't figure out how to type between the quoted texts without my quote being part of their selected quote. For example, if I quoted two posts and wanted to respond to them seperately I can't figure out how to click in between the two quoted posts in GUI mode so that it is clear that my response is not part of their original post (I hope this one makes sense, I don't know how else to describe it).
7. Forum votes look really out of place and off-balanced on the right side.
Other than that, I like the possibilies this opens up.

.squirrely.a red name posted not too long back that they would NEVER change the forum layout, because it works so well unlike tgr and other forums. video section, photo, reviews all those updates have been awesome but for the love of god keep the forums as they were.
Yeah that was definitely me. We actually didn't change it all that much, we were just tweaking it. We can continue to make tweaks but over time everything can't always stay exactly the same. What I also was really talking about is forcing complete re-ordering of the forums by default - we will always make sure you can view it in 'latest' mode, which is the classic.
What we should have done was given more of you the chance to view in beta and switch between them. We did that for a test group of people (who have been using the new forums for a few weeks now) and most people didn't want to go back after a bit.
Lets try to make a few tweaks to things here, as the new platform is way more powerful and actually allows us to make the changes you guys have always wanted. We couldn't adapt the old code anymore as it was literally written in the back of a car driving from the US Open to SIA in 2004. Please if you are not loving things
a) Give it a chance, make sure you actually hate it.
b) Try to pick out the things you don't like and communicate them.
We can change, and we're here to listen.

We do change to improve. The Backend is a massive upgrade for the forums, and now we will be able to do all kinds of cool things that have been suggested throughout the years. The hardest part is actually upgrading stuff and making it 'more modern' like everyone asks without fucking a tiny bit with the layout or smaller things that people like. Its a balance and we'll work to get it.
usace100% agree. I thought NS was one of the most readable forums out there. Not anymore, it looks pretty amateur to me now. As others have said, there's too much space between the timestamp and user info, the upvotes are harder to read for some reason (not as prominent), and the quote button is the only thing that pops out to me from the page anymore. The general lack of definition, especially around quoted text hurts readability. I like the features overall, don't like the layout
Remember that when we added voting at all to the forums? Everyone flipped out and said it was annoying where it was and was going to totally bring down the integrity of the site. It seems to have quite nicely integrated as we've all become used to it.
Forums are something that we get used to the specific readability of that forum, as it delivers such a repeated experience. So I think its not that we're a disaster now, we're just different and its going to take some time and tweaking to get it perfect. Good news is that unlike any other standard forum package, we can build whatever we want and deliver the experience that will make us all happy.
Definitely hearing everyone on the contrast. Paul is out for the day, so sleep on it for the evening, ram this thread full of suggestions, and we'll start making some tweaks tomorrow morning.
I'm glad the moderators are changing it up. Lots of awesome new features we never had before. But here's a list of the few things I'd like to see changed:
1) Gradient/Contrast between posts needs to be more distinctive.
2) Make the post counts and members title (No life, Ridiculous, ect.) black again. Not a fan of them being grey while the karma is black.
3) The OP post should be darker than it is now. I like it when there's a well defined difference between replies, and the original post.
4) Bring back post preview.
I haven't had a chance to check out everything changed yet but once I see everything i'm sure i'll be back with a few more to add to the list. Still happy to see changes occurring though.
While I don't really care which side the up/down vote rating of the comments is on, I do agree it should be a little bit more prominent. It seems to me like something as simple as having the rating turn green when it's positive and red when it's negative might make a significant difference.
Also I don't really like the buttons to access specific pages of the thread, when looking at them in My Threads or just the thread listing, they just look big and clunky and misplaced.

So wack. Nothing works. Replies don't show up, threads don't move up, can't embed. Doesn't look good either, too monotone. Multiquote is cool (as I am testing it out).
Definitely not a big fan of the new layout. That being said, the important thing is going to be communicating things that have been wanted on NS so they can be implemented. It seems like an "upgrade" that doesn't actually make NS look better aesthetically or function in a more streamlined way.
why did the timestamps get changed to say "x amount of time ago"?
i can't really see an advantage of having a more general, relative way of telling when things were posted. yeah it spans times zones but it's not precise.
THe only thing I really have a problem with is that a thread will show up in "MyThreads" saying there is a recent post. But when you click on the thread, the post isn't there. It takes like 5 minutes for the posts to actually show up in the thread.

I had absolutely no problem with the previous mobile site, aside from not being able to see read messages in inbox...which wasn't fixed.

And if you ever wanted that to be fixed, upvoting, proper paragraph formatting or any other feature to ever improve ever on mobile we needed to upgrade the forums. No choice, that old system was too fucked to go on.

Yeah... this was kind of a hard call. We had to move it up there for mobile, because keeping it under the icon there was way too cluttered. AFter some of us had used the site for a week with it on the top right, we really started to like the idea of the 'post control bar' above each post.
For a while I had the ability to switch back and forth and liked it better in the top right. Give it a day and see where you land.

I sort of think that its one of those things you just need to get used to. Making it different colors would really start to make the forum pretty rainbow.... your eyes will need to adapt to where its located.
When we launched it to the left of the post, everyone freaked out too stating it made that area too cluttered. It was very quick before everyone got used to that and now they are mad its moved from there.
Of course, we *can* move it back, just the initial testers actually came to prefer it at the top right after a few days.

Thanks! The team works really hard, so its nice to hear things presented in such a fashion. We're more than happy to listen, and we'll fuck around with some of the colors tomorrow.

Actually, the issue is that you guys made the lines between the post listings WAY lighter, and almost impossible to see. Also want to add that I love the switch to the larger default player for videos.
