Americans (and maybe EU nations) are living in delusion basically telling Russia “if you invade Ukraine, you’ll be in big trouble, mister” threatening sanctions and all sorts of bullshit. But Russia has the support of China, you think they care? China has way more global power than we want to believe. Russia and Ukraine hold enormous amounts of oil (and specifically natural gas) that is supplied to European countries for energy and everybody is already screaming about high prices, wait until their energy bill triples still. US has lots of natural gas but we can’t transport it in scale. China has a stranglehold on the global supply chain as capitalism outsourced everything to China to save some bucks and make stonks go up. China’s belt and road initiative has blitzkrieg written all over it. I know this is speculation, but Russian trolls have also potentially been destabilizing united nations across the globe over the last decade too. It’s Russia and China’s world for the taking. Why are we so hellbent on going to space again? The war for natural resources is going to get a lot more brutal

we’re just left with hopes and dreams and the hope that NATO actually has any power.

JemsI am serious, i’m just stating something obvious that no one else seems to have noticed. How is my take “disconnected from reality”? My point is there’s bullshit posts and misinformation that i don’t like all over the place. Is it bad? Not really. Does it bother me? Yes. Looping back to Ukraine’s president I think what he’s doing is great for his country’s morale. Although I think it’s really excessive and he’ll use the leverage after the conflict to shy away from the fact that Ukraine is probably europe’s most corrupt government.

What you perceive as excessive are the exact traits that people gravitated to when I was active duty. Will he use it to his advantage post-whatever-the-fuck-this-is? Maybe? Probably? No idea. You'll find most people placed on a pillar usually do from that world. But that is so far from the reality of the current situation and what is occurring. Carrying on as he is is far more critical than any concern that he might bath in it for the clicks and likes later down the road or attempts to hide domestic issues.

Guy is a Zionist and quotes the Talmud in a largely Christian Ukraine. He's a comedian and actor, so he knows how to make himself look like a warrior, seeing he played a fictional president who lost his thrown through a foreign takeover. I don't think he is a threat to Putin's foreign interests in Ukraine, rather, it is Ukranian nationalists who are the threat, those fighters who Putin calls "nazis." Now that doesn't negate the fact that Putin, who also quotes the Talmud, is a criminal who looked to Alexander Dugin on important geopolitical matters a few years ago. The same self-proclaimed national bolshevik who said openly:

"Kill, kill, kill... more talks, there should not be."

Welp, honestly seeing how this is unfolding and how Russia is about to not only lose a war with Ukraine but also got economically backhanded by china, the west, and every other nation, I honestly am starting to believe that putin is coming closer to just saying fuck it and pressing the nuke button. Russia is about to lose a war, enter a depression, and is exposing the fact that they can’t even capture a city with 1/100th the size of their military. More scared now than I was before tbh

Watching Putin in the past he seemed calm and calculating. I believe he fully expected to have Kiev, Odessa, and Karkhov within a day or two and that the Ukrainian gov would collapse. Instead he sent in conscripts who thought they would be doing training exercises, with terrible intel and no maps.
The Ukrainians did the obvious and continue to cut off and shred Russian armored and supply columns before they can even get to the cities.
it is a volunteer army who believe deeply in their cause vs conscript army who don’t want to be there.
I have noticed a different look in Putin’s eyes. It’s pure hate and rage. He realizes he fucked up. I can’t see any other outcome than him continuing to double down.

I mean I don’t think any Russian with launch codes would be willing to just nuke a city out of spite. I think the result will be moreso a coup. Russia nukes anyone and the entire rest of the world blows them to smithereens, not because of alliances but because every other country realizes the threat Russia poses to human rights. I don’t know what happens next, but I would be horrified of the future if I was either Russian or lived near there.

Here’s a link to the auto posted Russian propaganda article about Russian army success in occupation of Ukraine. They really planned to invade Ukraine and have it under full control in 2 days. also this article has a new aggressive rhetoric that completely denies Ukrainians as a nation. It even doesn’t call us like that. Instead we are now - malorossi or minor Russians as opposed to velikorossi (great Russians) who live on the current Russian territories.

Oh it goes beyond that, of course... its about controlling Ukraine's petrostate potential first and foremost, but part of that is controlling the black sea coast and Crimea...

im on jems' side here. he is not saying that he supports putin in the invasion.
zelensky is in part responsible for the outcome and hes using russian aggresivity to his own benefit.

Ukraine's position is to take crimea and donbas back, hes been pushing to join nato so everyone helps him there. its unclear if the separatists of donbas and crimea are russian puppets or not.

once again, im a polish born canadian. im on nato side whether i like it or not. my family friends in poland are taking in ukrainian refugees, i hear about the conflict second hand from people actually living there. even to them the conflict it self is not so clear cut. the reason it seems so obvious to us who about who is in the right and wrong is cause of the media portrayal. in the current day and age leaders need the support of their people to do fucked up things, both zelensky and putin have it, and now nato does too.

look up propoganda and start using skepticism when analyzing media. i thought everyone learned this stuff by now.

the only universal wrongs are innocent people dieing, families being separated and childrens lives being destroyed. yes, that blood is on everyones hands, including nato. pacifism is the only way i know that can be right.

the obvious (most basic) reasons for the conflict:

1. possible economic downfall for russia due to ukraines proximity to consumers and abundance of resources.
2. geographic benefits of ukraine for either nato or russia in terms of military strategy.
3. ethnic pride and prejudice

what i think should be done: (by no means am i an expert or even knowledgable in foreign policy and afairs)

1. compromise. russia and ukraine should sign trade agreement to settle disputes about natural resources. this one is going to hurt/limit both countries unfortunatley. ukraine has full rights to theirs, but in growing their infrastructure to support it, they are hurting russias competitiveness in the market. they should bring in russian equipment, infrastructure and exploration rights instead of selling that to western companies as they were.

2. compromise. tear up the minsk agreements (stop citing them) and ukraine, belarus and any other "republic" that sprouts out of the geographic territory (everything between current russia and the karpaty mountains), signs a military and economic neutrality with both nato and russia. anyone steps out of line, it automatically validates the opposositions presence in the "invaded/comprimised" area. any evidence of the sort should be sorted out in an impartial and international court of law and justice. neither can waltz in unless approved. military/economic strong points, such as sevestapol, should given to a world trade/defence comitee made up by impartial countries to govern. an agreement similar to the build of the ISS.

3. after the rules stated above are in effect, once again compromise! invoke a referndum type shit where people disatisfied with the rule of their land are given the ability of autonomy. but they cant make strong economic or strategic ties with either side. nato cant recognize one of these places with russia, and vice versa.

did i miss something? once again, in my perspective its fucked up that russia doesnt have a clear democracy or freedom of speech and hes forcing that on ukraine to remain completely impartial. but thats for the people to decide. they love putin and its not just because of propoganda. westerners have no idea what it was like to live in russia before him; they think his regime brought order. the newer generations dislike him and he will eventually have to surrender his control.

Because it's incredibly naïve and unrealistic to think that's possible.

This conflict is 100% the fault of Putin.

Your proposed solutions would have had zero bearing on Putin's decision-making process. He has clearly stated he wants to return Russia to USSR-level strength. To do so, he needs to expand the reach of Russia, either by proxy (Belarus and Syria) or territorial growth (Georgia, Donetsk, and now greater Ukraine). To think the actions of NATO or Ukraine influenced his decisions is shifting away blame that can only be placed on him.

A trade agreement, a neutrality agreement, or any referendum would have had zero impact on his decision to invade Ukraine. Putin has claimed, numerous times, that he does not see Ukraine as a sovereign nation. To him, there was no greater insult than this "Russian territory" leaving to join the body responsible for the demise of the USSR, the EU/NATO. It's quite clear, through his interactions with former president Yanukovych and the aftermath of the Ukrainian revolution, that if Ukraine had a pro-Russia government, this would not be happening. There is no middle ground to Putin. Either Ukraine becomes a puppet state or ceases to exist.

FFS. For someone who has claimed to have done a lot of research, you're really missing the key aspect to this entire conflict.

For Putin, either Ukraine falls in line (becomes a puppet state like Belarus) or ceases to exist. There's no other outcome that will, at this moment, satisfy him.

I'm Ukrainian. And both of my grandmothers live on both sides of the front in Donbas.

and it's totally clear that separatists are russian puppets in Donbas. Most of its army were current russian officers and/or just scumbag russians that had been so miserable in regular life that they became soldiers of fortune.

And it's also clear that you can't trust the results of the 2014 referendum in Crimea. Russia falsifies all its peaceful elections, how can you trust the results of something that was made at gunpoint? Right now there aren't any separatists there. There are the russian occupation authorities. Because Crimea is a part of Russia, not a new unrecognized state.
