Hell yeah. We need a rebuild on our minipark. Dont think theyll give us the space to extend till sfter xmas break. And only wanna rebuild if csn do it proper.
We just got a jump up for yesterday not much snow but can skim enough to stack. I nerfed it snd made it kinds mellow. Rebuilt it today and gave it a little more.
1.5 foot bigger and a little steeper. After xmas i might mske it sittle taller and floaty but xmas break always scares me.
Whats your season run through? March ish? Peeps will be stoked you got a park up.

How does one get into cat operations? Do resorts commonly train people?

Looks beautiful. Good point about xmas break.
Season usually runs until the end of April. Only natural snow up here in Labrador so takes a while to build anything.
I'm encouraging them to get at least 1 run of snow making because it gets cold enough in October.
There aren't too many park riders here but the progression features we have are good so I'm hoping to see some growth there.

By accident, on purpose, ending up getting a job, somebody wanting to train you.
Idk it's cool, its weord, noght life can be shot but it's okay. We don't have a second park groomer this season so ive been working 6 10s.
Crested butte CO which is a sick af mtn used to have a program open to the public where rheh show you how to run a cat. Was like 200 bucks. Sounds expensive but honestly kinda cheap if you really wanted to. To pay someone to show you how to run it, the machine, risk of fucking it up, diesel, it aint bad.
Or if you have a friend that grooms hang out and show interest, just don't fsll asleep. Sleepy passengers geg the boot.

Hell yeah gotta engage what you have. Sounds sick though!
Skied tonight with my dad. Was gonna ski the MSPs but I was to lazy to adjust the bindings. Probably woulda been a better ski but it was fun to mess around on some death cookies and snowmaking mounds and boulders

Fuck wish I saw this before creating a whole thread.
So resorts don’t really look for actual certification’s or “Cat driver school” type things? I got a bunch of experience running heavy equipment and would love to get a job running a snowcat.
is it really as simple as just sending in a resume? (I worked at said resort for 2 years as a ski instructor as well)
sexyjulianis it really as simple as just sending in a resume?
yep
ironically you can just hop into the most expensive machine on the mountain with no experience. if you have machine operator experience it's especially easy to get into

I'd be done to ride a long if I ever got the chance. The 6 year old boy in me still gets excited about big machines moving stuff around and its a part of the ski world I am yet to experience. Always loved watching a pair of cats get jumps built.
safarisamHe was so excited to see me that he brought me a hat instead of a sock
The best/worst is when they are frantically looking all over for something to bring you but can't find anything, and they get sad. But they're dogs and love you so they get ecstatic just to see you again after like 2.3 seconds.

Bruno has grabbed his dads hand and walked him to me before when he couldn’t find something to grab. Dogs are great and I love them so much.

Do it! I'm pretty gold abkut taking people out. Im always busy af and don't take lunch breaks but its nice to talk to a real human for a little and get to help them have a cool experience.
My friends were just through , came up from tahoe. She had never been in a cat. She came out and chilled for a couple hours. Told her whenever she got tired just let me know and id bring her down.
Def get out a bit if you haven't. And also ride alongs are how you learn if you wanna learn.

Yeah not really. Heavy equipment experience is always a big plus, the schools like cmc are a plus but you don't really need any of it. Places train rookies all the time.
Knowing people and being eager helps but it's just sorta finding the right place at the right time.
Some big mtns like the vails hite rookies every season. Always a good way to 2 two season and get your foot in the door. Once you have two years snd an okay reference you've surpassed a lot of that rookie pool snd can get jobs at wayyy more places.
I always tell people send the resume. It can be a hard job to get at many mountains, but send it. You never know. Also talk to some of the groomers, do ride alongs, talk to the manager. The eager familiar face will get hired if everyone has the same experience.
Shoutout to parking people for parking people in front of peoples houses. I guess they legit parked people here so no use being a dick to the people. Buddy just came home and can't park here.
