Logged on for the first time in years to report this just happened to me. Not nearly as bad as that dudes thumb, just pinched the skin but wow it hurt like a mf and the bruising is fugly. Right before a climbing trip too.
Another victim last night. Was not quite at bad as the guy with the original pic but was eerily similar after I managed to get my thumb out of the mousetrap after the longest 3 minutes of my life. Took about a half hour for the blood to come back in and make it resemble a normal looking finger.

Yeah it took me about 4 minutes to get out, and they were turning blue by the time I did. Proceeded to immediately pass out with relief. I’m super lucky my Dins were at 12. Good times.
did the same shit, but thankfully only caught the very tip of the thumb. still hurt like a bitch and took a long time before I could not feel like I was dying eveytime something touched my thumb
Anyone else like to walk on the edge and put your fingers in that gap of death? Not activating the binding but just being in that precarious position..

You ok bro? need to talk about your thoughts of self harm?
This happened to me a few years ago and it pinched right on the nail. I was mounting bindings when it happened to the heel was off the ski and it’s super hard to get them apart without the base attached to the ski. My buddy was standing on my hand and pushing as hard as he could and he got it off after a few minutes. I stood up and immediately passed out for a few more mins. Took my nail about 2 months to fall off.

how dose the binding activate with a finger in there like that though?
I've used Pivots since the 90's, my first pair was the original Forza color way with the Geze toe, (bet you never heard of that binding Co. !!!!!) Lots of close calls, but still have all my fingers. Just scored a brand new pair of 14ers off Ebay for $200 brand new. Skinny brakes but i like them as tight as possible so no problems there.

what size brakes, what size waist on your ski?
they run big, i actually just switched from bent out B75s on 96 waist to B95s on 96 waist and they actually bother me a tiny bit in the lift line cause i'm used to them hugging the ski more

that's exactly what i'm saying. yeah they are 75mm brakes. Don't have a pair of skis yet, but i'll use them on anything south of 100. My last pair were some 95mm on some 97mm skis, way too wide. I've used lots of the old FKS that i scavenged off old race skis i copped at the Ski Swap. I'd rather have to bend them out a little than have those brake arms sticking out just waiting to hook up and shoot me into the woods when i'm maching switch.
Well, i just joined the club. Luckily was able to get it out in 10sec or so but FUCK it looked so smashed right after i got it out. This is about 30 minutes later. Thought I broke it for sure but honestly might be fine… im thinking the nail is a goner though lol. Fuck the doctor, this one’s getting treated with beer. Grateful to have finally been through this rite of passage, thanks Jah

Today 2 of my coworkers cut their hands open in a nasty way, along with many other weird occurrences and coincidences in my world… I’m not a superstitious guy but maybe today the stars aligned and set some fucked up things in motion lol
Dang there's some gnarly injuries in this thread! I'll add my recent carnage to the mix just for fun.
*Note: this was not from pivots, haha. Stay safe out there folks, finger injuries are not pleasant.

Haha, work accident. Gold exploration via heli in remote area, slipped on wet rock outcrop and as I fell to the ground and arrested myself with my hand, sledgehammer over shoulder also fell and popped nail off. Blew apart the nail bed, full nail separated, took a bit of the finger off, and bone shattered. Fluke accident...
Another safety tip for ski techs out there, especially in rentals during busy/hectic time; don't rush, get head down too low, or apply too much pressure when quickly adjusting din or fp on bindings while setting up. Friend of a friend's hand slipped once and drove screwdriver threw his eye socket and into his skull in front of a family waiting to be set up. Gnarly stuff...
Simple solution. Don’t flip up the binding when it’s not mounted on the ski. Another simple solution. Slam down the heel piece open handed rather than wrapping your thumb around it like it’s a dildo. With this knowledge you too can safely use your look pivots

jesus christ. Thats horrible. I did the same thing once working on my moped, but only sent it through my hand. I cant even imagine that.

This. My technique is to use the screwdriver handle to push down on the lip of the heel piece where your boot would go, then light pressure upwards with your other hand helping the heel flip up. No fingers in danger.
