We need a new term for positively rating a thread/picture

Now that this new rating system is in effect for the homepage, and the +1/-1 voting system now does something more than it used to, I think we as a group need to make a decision on what to call a positive or negative vote.

The terms Upvote and Downvote are stupid, come straight from reddit and have no originality. I will refuse to allow them to gain popularity. Instead we need something unique to us, because we are NS, not stupid Reddit

Ideas?

Yeah yeah that's what they tell me, but IMO, it's confusing as hell and is a mental nightmare to follow when you want to see replies to a certain comment and have to step back a million posts.

After trying to browse yesterday, I give it a solid "Meh" on my overall stoke factor. The content is great in some /r/'s or whatever you call them, but community wise, format, and pace are just not for me.

Plus, why restart or waste time on something new when I've got such a perfect home right here? :)

Wasn't there some obscene editorial section in freeze or an older magazine that had one of those yay/nay, stoke/choke, etc titles?

I think it was stoked or choked. I'm having hazy memories of an interview question where they would ask stoked or choked? Maybe it was an editorial question.... fuuuuuck... google isn't helping me here.

Jsut go to the homepage and click on something. It will be entertaining.

Plus, the key to understanding comments is the format. For instance this is a sidebar conversation not related to the thread - if it was threaded, it wouldn't disrupt the main conversation.

I do agree though... stay on NS. That is why we are bringing the best elements of a few of the major sites into the fold, and making it all the newschoolers you can handle. This place fucking rules.

From what I remember (probably something different), there was a section where a reader would submit a question, and then one of the writers would rate the scenario/offer advice. The stories were usually pretty hilarious and out there.

No ideas on the topic, but i think we should keep it pretty concise and somewhat skiier related.
like 1-2 syllable word. I liked 1337 earlier idea about the kudos system with either a + or - at the end. But of course we would have to pick a word to assign to this system. great thread btw, love that this conversation is even happening and that everyone can have a say.

And like, uggg, instead of score, it says gnar: (number here)

or better yet, gnar: (legendary, very, yes, split, no, total yardsale) depending on how many points.
Legendary would be like 50+ positive in threads
very 49-20
yes 19-1, split 0
no -1 to -14
total yardsale -15 and below.
