We need a new term for positively rating a thread/picture

Now that this new rating system is in effect for the homepage, and the +1/-1 voting system now does something more than it used to, I think we as a group need to make a decision on what to call a positive or negative vote.

The terms Upvote and Downvote are stupid, come straight from reddit and have no originality. I will refuse to allow them to gain popularity. Instead we need something unique to us, because we are NS, not stupid Reddit

Ideas?

Originality within a concept such as this is unnecessary. This website is distinct because of its content, and is thus essentially unaffected by the way in which the material is presented, unless the presentation inhibits in any way the content. To completely ridicule a system that has been proven to work, such as reddit's up down voting system, is to ignore the tendencies of most technological advances throughout history. In my opinion, we should utilize what works with reddit's system, and alter what doesnt so as to best represents what we all originally found attractive in this site. Today it seems that many of the threads i click on have little thought or individuality to them. So a system that would rank a threads success seams like the obvious next step for a site that continues to grow in size.

If we get more suggestions I'll find a way to start a poll

So far I like yardsale as a -1, not sure about the +1. Stomped is alright, but too common if someone was to stomp a crazy trick in a vid/etc.

You know, if we want to go all the way here we can totally change the graphic too. Its rendered the same everywhere, so for sure as a community we can make this decision.

I think the most important thing to remember is that this decision is going to be with us for a very, very long time... so use something really creative, yet generic enough that it will last through shifting trends.

But yeah, everything is driven by the community now... so if we can come to a decision as a group, we'll change the graphics everywhere and make it official.

Playing on the idea of 'keep your tips up' could be sweet. Like tips up tips down... that isn't great but something like that.

Plus, your parents might even get that it pays homage to a legendary Lange ad:
