ON3P received demand to change name of “Great Scott”

This post is meant to inform anyone who has to date purchased a “Great Scott” ski from ON3P, or those who are considering a future purchase.  In late October, ON3P received a cease and desist order from SCOTT USA Ltd., and its affiliates SCOTT Sports SA and SCOTT USA Inc., demanding ON3P immediately cease commercialization and sales of all “Great Scott” branded skis for reasons of  trademark infringement. 

We are current exploring the legality of the use of “Scott” in the name of our ski “Great Scott” and should reach a decision in the near future.

Once we have reached a decision, I will post an update on the matter.

I think it does suck, it is unfortunate, but I asked my business teacher about lawsuits when the WME one first came up, he explained that with trade mark names if the company doesn't have people looking at all times for people missusing the names or w/e that they will loose the rights of their trade mark.

an example that he gave, a kid he knew named Mike row had started a little company that had something to do with a computer program he was making for schools. He was calling it Mike Row Softwear. Because it sounded so similar microsoft sued him to change the name. The company only did it to hold their trademarks and they actually settled outside of court with the kid changing the name of his product and microsoft paid for his university studies, so it actually ended up really cool for the kid.

I think with everything going on in the industry lately the name "Cease and Desist" would be a great re-branding for the ski.  It would be kind of like an inside joke and would give ON3P stronger ties to the core skier community. We would all take it lightheartedly and it would reinforce the fact that ON3P is a core company, who would rather concentrate on the skis and the skiers then the corporate BS.

I say it it has to be renamed then Cease and Desist is the name!

As ridiculous as this lawsuit is, I don't really think that Scott's ski market department probably even knew about it, otherwise they pry wouldn't have sued... As shown by the the Scott rep or whatever who had his post deleted. Probably with Scott being so huge the legal department sued without even looking at ON3P's owners name. I'm guessing that the snow department is fucking pissed at the legal department right now at scott.

You may be right. And that's one of the big disadvantages when a company gets too big. Often the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Smaller companies are usually way more maneuverable in the market and more in touch with what customers want. I haven't seen a better example of this then in the ski industry.  That being said, is Scott really that big that they can't keep straight what department is doing what? I don't know, it's a question....

I know you're trying to defend him as a person, but his comment was straight up ridiculous. He said that what Scott was claiming "was BS"

You can't justify his actions when he comes in here and says something as stupid as that...and then looks like a fool because he realized that he didn't get all the facts.

Just a side story to all this - the ski is named after Scott Andrus but there is also a Great Scott Bowl at Alpental which I think was another motivator for the name.

That's it!!!! I'm scratchin' off the scott logo from my stolen rental poles, lol jk im too lazy to do that. I like the P3 countersuit idea though, send them their own cease and desist letter, just reworded. The Scott brand is always getting plugged in Bonnier media too. Fuck em' all.

He said that what iggy was saying "was BS" and that there was no such thing as a company called Scott USA Ltd., but that the real company is called Scott USA Inc. or something like that.

Basically, he said that either iggy was making it up or it was a prank. He said that he is in the HR department at Scott and none of them heard of anything. Apparently, he didn't check too hard.
