2nd- 9th Jan holiday in Japan. Did'nt get the snow we were hoping for, it dumped either side of our week there, but it was still a great trip and a good cultural experience. Filmed with a GoPro HD. The quality is amazing, but the edit does not do it justice, but being my first try at edditing properly im working on improving.

A short test film I made using my 7D. I wanted to do do a bit of filming and try out my new camera and lenses.

Named ''The Hour long Smoothie'' as my friend who helped film said this was the longest time he had ever had to wait to get a smoothie.

Also used in the NS video contest 1.

Beer Pong Timelapse - Egg Timer

by rlee
May 2011 - 3.5K views

Every time I go back to Hong Kong I always end up playing beer pong nearly every weekend. After seeing a timelapse video by Philip Bloom where an iPhone was placed on a adapted egg timer, I thought I would try the idea out myself.

So I bought a cheap ''ladybug egg timer'' and blue-tacked my GoPro on to the top, set it to take a photo every 2 seconds and let it go for the evening as we played.

Was just a little experiment to see if it worked and it turned out pretty cool.

Summer Docking - Cliff Jumping - Hong Kong - 7D

Sep 2011 - 4.1K views

Another summer come and (almost) gone in Hong Kong. Went out to some new places I've never been before like the Rock Pools in Sai Wan (Sai Kung), and took my cameras with me. As always though, we went back to Tai Tam to go bridge jumping as thats always fun. Tried to get some new angles there for this edit, but found it challenging with not much space to maneuver, still - got a few.

Filmed with my Canon 7D and GoPro HD

Lenses

Canon 50 1.8
Canon 85 1.8
Tamaron 18- 200

Music: Mike Snow - Animal (The Parks Jump Up Remix)

Enjoy!

''...Something Japanese...''

Jan 2012 - 735 views

This January my family and I returned to Niseko, Japan after a having a dry week 2 years ago. This year turned out a little different. There wasn't a day without snow and we had the some of the deepest days on snow we may have ever had. A friend from the UK also came to join for a few days at the end and we then carried on after the family had left for another week touring Japanese resorts with Black Diamond Lodge, needless to say it was pretty excellent. Being able to get the right balance between filming and skiing was pretty tough and this video really doesn't show how much snow we actually got... it was just to fun to stop and film. I love Japan and will most certainly be going back. I would like to dedicate this film to Sarah Burke who recently passed away. I don't know her personally but she was an inspiration to the sport and will be sorely missed

JAPAN - Hokkaido Drift

Jan 2013 - 116 views

After last year, coming back to Japan was a no brainer and this year was even better. After last year we did a bit more exploring and found some new zones and areas that we had never been before. We were in Niseko for just under 3 weeks and apart from one day when it rained, we got 15-25 cm of new snow everyday... it just didn't stop. I think we must of seen the sun no more than a handfull of times with only one bluebird day. As well as scoping new zones, we hopped on Black Diamond Tours' famous Mushroom tour twice where we drove around in a van finding avi barriers, pillows, steep lines (which are hard to find in Japan) and snow almost as deep as we are tall. Thanks to Gordy, Colin, Mitch, Hayden and Jordy from Back Diamond Tours for taking us out. As usual it was hard to find a balance between skiing and filming but we managed it and had an awesome time during our short trip. Hope you enjoy!

Surfing in the Philippines.

Nov 2013 - 3.1K views

Three weeks before this trip my friend called me up and asked if I wanted to go to the Philippines on a Surf trip. He said "It's cheap as chips mate We will spend less there then we will at home" and I was sold. I checked the diary and had nothing on so I thought why not. Brought the camera and this is what we came up with. Hope you enjoy the sun before the snow arrives.

"Deep Filth". Bottomless Pow in Japan!

Every year for the past 4 years I have been going to Niseko, Japan to ski. Every year we go for just under 3 weeks searching for that truly epic, deep powder day which Japan has to offer. Now, don't get me wrong, pretty much everyday we had powder snow, actually, EVERY day we had powder snow, but not as deep as the movies where the thought of bringing a snorkel along may be a wise idea. However this year... we scored! I normally only make one video of the trip but because of the snowfall in one day, I had so much GoPro footage I thought theres no point letting most of it go to waste so lets make an entire GoPro edit. Something I don't normally do. The day before we finished skiing around 3.30/4 and it was dumping! We went home had dinner, browsed the net, watched a movie, all the normal post skiing activities and then went to bed. We knew it was going to be another powder day but had no idea how deep it would be! As usual we were up at 7am and got the first bus to get us to the opening chair. As we were standing in line it was still hammering it down, probably at a rate of 5cm an hour, it was insane! The lifts opened at 11am where we were (there was some maintenance needed to be done on the lift) which gave us a bit of a scare that we made the wrong decision in mountain to go to. When it opened though... it was glorious! Neck deep powder all day and very few people! This video was actually shot the day after which was still super deep and untracked which just goes to show how much snow actually fell! Hope you enjoy my day of powder with my brother!

Robin Lee | FilmerUnknown | Qualification Entry

by rlee
Mar 2014 - 1.6K views

So now that all the FilmerUnknown finalist entries are out, and Level has said that they aren't going to release the qualification entries, I thought there is no point in me keeping this edit to myself. Took a while to make so why not just share it to you all. I wish my final entry could have included some skiing but living in Hong Kong made that pretty hard so I apologise for that. Hope you enjoy NS, judge away. Robin

SuperUnknown XI Finals - A Casual Afternoon

by rlee
May 2014 - 2K views

Early on at the SuperUnknown XI Finals we had a couple down-days due to bad weather. With the crew feeling fresh they weren't able to just sit and chill in the lodge, play cards and let the day roll on by, but instead used a small patch of snow outside our accommodation to build a small rail garden. While the rest of the film crew were busy setting up interviews for the athletes, I took the opportunity to try out some new equipment and get some shots of the guys messing around on the rails.

Dec 2014 - 953 views

This year I went back to my old stomping grounds of Silver Star Mountain in Vernon, BC. Was fun to go back after 8 years and hit the same trails that I grew up skiing on. I like to think that I've got better since then... All filmed on my new GoPro 4 Black with the help of my new personal filmer... my brother!

Level 1 SuperUnknown XI Finals | Filmer Unknown Edit

by rlee
Dec 2015 - 2.5K views

In light of Level 1 announcing this seasons SuperUnknown contest I thought it was a good time to share my edit from SuperUnknown XI. In May 2014 I was lucky enough to attend the SuperUnknown Final as an additional filmer for winning Level 1's FilmerUnknown competition. The 10 finalists spent 10 days hitting handcrafted features as well as enjoying a few down days in the lodge while myself and the Level 1 crew documented all the action.

Mitchell Brower ended up taking home the title, but every single person there had the time of their lives. It was also an amazing experience for myself as it was the first look I had into professional ski film documentary and as a result has opened a bunch of doors in my own career as a filmer. Many of you will have seen some of this footage before but there is some new stuff which particularly got me excited, so I hope you enjoy my edit of the event.
