Do you guys ever talk to each other?

Let me preface this with: "When I was young..."

Everyone on newschoolers new each other. I'm talking ten years ago. There weren't too many members. It wasn't difficult to watch every video and check out every new photo. We'd know each other on a first name basis. We'd message each other, and meet up to ski. I met some rad dudes in Washington and went to visit them to ski "out west" for the first time. Pretty cool, right? I've met a ton of great friends on here.

But, do you guys meet up through newschoolers? Do you get rides to the mountain together? Have you ever gone on a newschoolers blind date? These are serious questions and I'm interested.

Yeah I've met tons of Nsers since I've been a member. It's pretty sick, never gone on an NS blind date. But I have met some sick dudes that I'm still friends with today.

I've met a few people from Newschoolers. Me and my friend also stopped by the NS office a while ago which is how I started off as an intern.

I feel like what made NS special back ten years ago is probably the fact that there just weren't that many freeskiers in general. It was a much bigger deal to find someone else on twintips. This site maybe served as a resource for finding other freeskiers when you thought you were kinda alone. Now, you can go to just about any place and find freeskiers and make friends. But this is speculation, because I wasn't there.
I have set up ride shares through NS a few times. Met some chill people through that. I doubt anyone has been on a blind date, though. Aren't enough pink names on here.

As finding someone you never knew near you on NS, then setting up a time to meet? No.   However, I have had the pleasure of meeting fellow NewSchoolers on the slopes  for the first times and often communicate with them afterwards on NS.

I've met a lot of newschoolers. Australian ski community is pretty small, so I knew a lot of them before. When I was in the states I met quite a few too, is a pretty sweet community. I'm actually dating an NSer now.

No, this is totally true. When I picked up my first pair of twins, I was the only person at my hill (martock) that had twins at the time. I went to university in Ottawa the next year and used the site to meet other skiers on twins.

I've met some great friends through here who I still ski and work with. As time went on though, there were more and more skiers riding twin tips and skiing the park. This coincided with me actually spending a few years just ski bumming. Recently, a lot more of my ski friends have been met on the mountain. That makes sense, the amount of skiers one was exposed to in Whistler 2012 is much different than Nova Scotia in 2001.

I've met up and ridden with NS'er before, it was a good time.

Other than that I haven't really done it because wherever I've gone I've been riding with people I already knew in the area. That'll probably change because I'm moving soon.

Never been on a blind date either, that'd be an interesting time I think.

BUT DID YOU KNOW, that NS has led to at least one marriage that I know of.

i've met at least 5-6 people on NS that i now talk to and am friends with that i wouldn't have been. however its not on the scale that i know NS used to be. but yes, we do talk to each other

after meeting a certain swedish-femal-epimp on ns, it worked out that when my friends were visiting sweden from Toronto they had someone to show them around. pretty cool i think

Yeah, small communities of NS'ers seem more likely to meet up. Planning to meet up and shred with some Manitoba NS'ers that I have not met in person before.

It's all what you make it! Newschoolers is hilarious, because there's so much stupid internet shit going on, but it's also really cool for meeting people and for content.

I'm from wisconsin originally, so I used to know EVERY one who skied at my hill, and if I ever saw someone I didn't recognize I would immediately go ask them if they used newschoolers and what their name was.

Now I live in colorado.  There are a lot more skiers so the novelty of asking if people are on newschoolers isn't quite there anymore.  I still ask just about every newschooler looking kid though haha....The other day I asked some kid at keystone if he goes on newschoolers and he was like "yeah you already asked me that, you asked what my user name was, and then told me it should be BigJacketGuy" which gave me a good laugh because I didn't remember that at all.

I've met SO many people from newschoolers though. Of course I don't remember a lot of them, but there's a bunch I'm friends with on facebook now and I've met in person a few times.  Newschoolers is awesome.

well...

my good friend Twinjibber77 is an NS'er, we originally talked through NS before freshman year of college, and then became friends.

and aside from that, yeah, i used to see kids on NS, remember their names when I met them in person and be like "oh yeah i've seen you post on NS or whatever."

i've skiied with kids on NS, became friends with people on NS, etc.

but i also used to send a lot of messages back and forth that would be like:
"oh yeah what's your setup, hit me up and we can shred"

or

"oh yeah i ski there all the time, holler at me when you're there and we can ski"

stuff like that, but it would never actually come true.

on a similar note, years ago it seemed like everyone knew each other in the park and really talked to each other.

anyone else that started freestyling years ago feel like a lot of the time now, it's a lot of awkward staring at each other and shit? (not all the time of course)

Not exactly sure what you're trying to say but I think I get the point.

Years ago, you would know most people at ski hills that were in the parks. It obviously depended on the hills. The scenes at Whistler, Blue, and Mammoth blew up super early. I think, those were the first places where skiers on twins wouldn't recognize other riders. Colorado and Tremblant were around that time as well, but maybe a bit later. So, we talked to each other.

In those days though, everyone didn't have much in common aside from they loved skiing and were doing something a bit different. Skiing in the park 12 years ago? We weren't cool. We fucking loved it. We had that in common. Now, it's a bit different. I think skiing is pretty cool now. To be truly honest, I think it is "cooler" than snowboarding now.

I guess I'm just fucking happy that the type of skiing that has it's roots in the Whistler glacier all those years ago is finally coming into its own. You've got a real sport on your hands now kids, and you don't need a website to find riding buddies!

But then again, that all depends where you live right? If it wasn't for FB i'd likely be a crewless mega-gaper riding some groomers at this lame ass hill I used to call my home mountain... But I met a buddy on FaceBook (the guy with the wicked-bomb-dank-assed-heady yard setup) and then started carpooling with the crew last year. This opened up the chance for me to ride at a place where there was a real park, and a chance to learn how to ride park from these people.

Now that I'm pretty active on here I've met probably 5-6 people that I'll hopefully meet up with and ski with this year which is pretty big for me. And I live in Manitoba, soooo that explains everything.

I've actually met a shitload of NSers because I work at MHSSC, but I don't remember most of their actual names, let alone their NS names. Not when there are 8-14 new kids in my room each week, although I do see a familiar face pop up on here every now and then.

I have to credit all of the kids I ski with now, all of my friends and connections, and even my best friends to NS. Talking to all these kids that love skiing as much as I do, I bond with so many of them

I moved to college, and most of the ski buddies I met were from NS. Heard of ON3P through this site, and the rest is history. Traveled a bit and slept on couches and got shown around new hills because of this place.

So thankful. It is what we make it, and I've been blessed over the years.

Hah, I remember when I started riding Grouse in 04... before that I always went to cypress and Jeff Thomas and some people skiied there but it was hardly anybody. But there was a crew of 20 or so who all hit up grouse and everyone knew everyone who had twins. And if there was someone you didn't know you took notice, like Skogen-Man, which was our nickname for this 30something dude in 1980's teal neon who inexplicably had Line Skogen Pros. I remember getting my first gen Seth Pistols and everyone commented on them who saw them, lifties, everyone... man, nostalgia.

I've obviously met a whole ton of NSers including the OP, almost all were good people.

I've met tons.

Had two blind dates with girls, and they've become great friends of mine.
Also blindly met someone that needed a place to live, and we've become good friends and have continued living together in another place.

As far as skiing with people, NS has a huge percentage of park skiers, and a park is kind of a different place to ski than a hill is.
Park; everyone is just open and going back and forth and feeding off each other. You can meet people, but it's more in the sense of knowing they're there and skiing.

I've also met up with people at hills. In my case, it's been Kicking Horse. People come out, and I've been asked to give some local insight to them. Which I do. Usually I ski with them if I'm available to go out, and many of them have a good time.
If I can't meet up, they usually still have a good time after knowing about the places I recommended.

So....in response to the subject; I talk to people, not so much at park (although last time I went, I met a new NS friend), but more so in knowledge of somewhere new to ski.

Ive never really scheduled a meet up with an NSer but I've been called out because of stickers and met a couple new dudes to ski with at a hill close to me, that isnt my local one. I also met another guy when I went down to ski in the states a guy called me out so me and him skied together which was nice.

I'm going to re-post, I think people might have missed it or not thought I wasn't serious...

Two people I was e-friends with on here connected through NS have gone on to get married.

Two members that used to be quite active back in the day met through the forums/cults on NS and ended up getting married in the UK. Sadly, after checking their profiles, it seems they aren't active on the site anymore.

It was a skiing date. I ended up wearing my usual skiing get up. We went touring at Rogers Pass, summited a mountain together and skied fall line awesomeness.

If you haven't figured it out yet, it's a dude I met up with, not a chick... so yeah.

Sad panda. I was hoping for a beyond better then twilight love story. Didn't get it.

Sounds like a pretty good time though. If I ever get to move out west in my lifetime I will be hitting up some people on here hard for some touring pals to help teach me forsure.

If you're ever wondering what to wear on a newschoolers blind date, the answer is always "Tie Dye Tall Tee" regardless of any detail.

How is the stability at Rogers? Is it looking like the pack is going to be pretty stable? I might do a multi day trek up there in a few weeks.

it's bomber right now, but there is a thick layer of surface hoar going on. It's looking like the next system is coming in on Friday so we'll see how well the new snow bonds. Snow pack is kinda low right now (under 2M) so even though it might be sketchy for a bit after the new snow, it will be very much welcomed.

As far as arranging meet-ups with people on NS, never. I put a thread in regionals offering rides to 2 of the local mountains (I don't have many friends that ride so I usually have an open seat). I've come across a few NS'ers on the slopes, and ^BEANS^ even picked me out at our college because he spied my Level 1 collab.

^Whew!

I tend to meet people in real life and then befriend/maintain contact on NS, but that has not always been the case. I got to know Ashley here before I met her in real life. I maintain internet-only friendships with a few people (Jamie for instance, but who isn't friends with Jamie?). I struggle to tell my friends/family about my internet friends. I can't do it without sounding weird, but I know that it's really not all that strange. Oh well!

I like reaching out to NSers when I see them posting stuff that I can help with. Ladies Men has served well for that and I've made a few friends that way too.
