An idea for an interchangeable ski binding system: an interlocking plate system that hooks in like a backpack clip. This system features two points of contact, along with a third point that uses a hook latch to lock into the plate on the ski itself. What do you all think about this idea?

quick mock up, two plates mounted on each ski one for the nose and one for the heel, same goes for the binding each one gets a plate, the plate concept is based on a interlocking picture frame hanger, so it is 4 points of contact and not 3.

Dont think so if the connection to the plate system on the ski is solid. This is just an idea that I had honestly not sure if it will work but ski bindings need to be changed up somehow, no need to have to buy a pair of bindings every time you buy a ski.
The idea seems solid for people who wanna rock tour bindings as well as some pivots or something, could also work good in the demo sphere as brands boasting abt all mountain capabilities could help swap.
I see 3 major issues tho,
1. strength and capability.
-inherently the setup is going to put more tension within the skis as well as have the opportunity to rip the bindings off the interchange unit. so that raises concern and puts liability on your end :/
2. ride height.
-I know you inherently have a taller setup if you rock a binding with a larger base, taller boot soles, etc. But assuming the mounts have to be drilled in, then reinforced, and then have the secondary mounting system on top, they could be too tall/uncomfortable for most. at least ppl who arent used to rollerblades.
3. cost and demographic.
-Obv manufacturing is gonna cost, and if you're producing them solo labor cost, but if they end up being more than most are expecting it could shorten the market. Regarding the market, I can see these being used for the backcountry bros who wanna rip their skis all mountain and swap from touring's, as well as being used for a demo ski/binding combo, or even if you have a pair you wanna let your buddy use for the day.
not shooting down, just posing that. go for it man it could work out positively

I like the idea of just latching on with compression straps and just give it the old dad cinch down before you drop in
Seems like a pointless product. Beyond switching from all mountain to bc. Who else is swapping out bindings? My second set of park skis has had the same tyrolia from 2017 and been on that one ski for 3 seasons.
But if go some reason people actually wanted this why not use threaded inserts and make adapters for individual bindings. Some bindings wouldn’t work. So better yet just universal binding mount holes.
Demo bindings and get some extra plates. The strive demo is actually super solid and I wouldn't have too much issue freeriding them. Just jack the din and you are good.
