i have been searching for a golf thread, and couldn't find one so im making one now. i just started playing this year, broke 100 for the first time the other day. almost got my first birdie, 35 foot putt that bounced out. i have a vid that i can share later.
I consistently shoot under 50 on 9 holes, but over 100 on 18. Seems like my game always breaks down after hole 12. Maybe i just need to play more, but I kinda wish 12 hole courses were a thing

Mental fitness is very important in golf, its very easy to lose focus and hit worse shots later in your round.
I never understood people who wanted to play less golf, I constantly want to play more after 18 and 18 holes is the only valuable measure of your score and game IMO. Its nice you can put 9 holes into your handicap, but its still not a perfect measure.
Maintenance Crew Tournament this week. It's every course at the area at a little 9-hole chip and putt course, biggest hole is maybe 110+ yds at best. Going to get really rowdy. But I'm kind of over golf and want to ski again.
Played for the first time in 5 years a few weeks ago, no warmup. Surprised myself with decent consistent contact until getting worn out the last few holes. It was also a scramble against 3 other groups which is so much more fun than just dinking your own ball around all day. Kinda the only way I want to play now.
does everyone's golf season end about when the ski season starts? Headed to Boise ID for Thanksgiving and wondering if I should be taking the clubs, or if maybe maaaayyyybeee Sun Valley will have blown enough snow to open a few runs. It would a treat to get to do both.

Boise might have some golf open in November. In SLC golf courses are open as long as there is no snow on the ground, so some years we get 10-11 months of golf.

Good insight, I've gone soft living in socal I am concerned that my appetite for 45 degree golf won't be enough to get me out there. Guess we have some chilly mornings down here occasionally. I'm probably gonna try anyways because otherwise it's just sitting on the couch doing nothing, which I ain't a fan of.
But hopefully Sun Valley is open and I can get some early season turns in instead. Would it be a lot to travel with ski boots AND clubs? Luckily I have status with American and get unlimited carryons and checked bags, finally time to take advantage!

Would love some 45 degree days for golf. We start off with 90 feeling like 100 in the morning with 100 feeling like 109 by mid day. Plus 70% humidity. Its fucking awful
Last place in The Sod Cutters Cup. Totally brutal. +5 which killed our entire teams score. I'm so bummed. At the same time, I don't respect teams who shoe-in Golf Pros/Clubhouse kids for a Turf Maintenance tourney but it is what it is I guess.

SlushSeasonBeer Golf: tennis ball golf around a park, but with tree trunks for holes
Instead of water hazards, people's off leash dogs run up and steal the balls
dude just fucking around and having fun hitting balls is golf to me. I don't really like the stuffy country club hardo vibes at all. People take the shit too seriously.

TBH that humidity number is fucked. I played a few rounds this summer in AZ at almost 100 F and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Lots of super cold ice water and lots of sun protection, 10% humidity.
It's been almost 100 here all week which is abnormal, finally cooling off. This is ideal golf weather in my book:
Living in socal will make you soft. I grew up in Idaho, I remember going to early morning classes in the winter in shorts. Now I grab a sweatshirt anytime it's below 70 lol.

Humidity here is soflo is just insane rough. Just step outside and you’re soaking wet. It’s literally currently considered “dangerous humidity”

Dangerously humid, that is terrifying to think about. I will say now we're getting into fire season in CA.
September and October are like second summer for us since all the tourists are back to whatever/wherever they are from and the weather is still nice. Arguably my favorite time of year. This will be my first winter back in the sport of golf in CA, curious to see if it gets any less busy on the courses.
Got my third birdie yesterday, the first two were on same par 4 hole (10) right after getting refueled and sobered up by a hot dog. Yesterday it was on hole 13– a par 3–everyone was using an iron but you knew most of the balls we’re either going into water or missing green so I whipped out a 5 wood, drove it onto green and hit a long putt (just a couple games of mini golf this month have really helped my green game lol). I’ve been working on loosening up on the green, it was shitty and raining yesterday people wanted to quit but we stuck it out and I think my hands being so cold and numb really helped. Got sunny and then I hit a par and ended pretty strong. Also I took my birdie shot early had tequila as I walked to the green
reason I came here to rant though why bother keeping score. The odd single in our group yesterday was one of the best, most consistent golfers I’ve been paired with, he was a sober retiree who plays golf everyday and he just missed an 88. I’ll be playing golf with my friends, be tied or leading after 6 holes, then the liquor and exhaustion hits then we end the round and my score is 115 yet somehow my friends are scoring 86s even though they’re equally as drunk and collapsing in the back 9. Why keep score if you just give yourself do-over after do-over, just a game who can cheat and push the truth the most

i like to keep score just because as a new golfer, It helps me see improvement, and I feel more motivated when I'm trying to get a certain score. shot a 40 through nine the other day then the next day I shot a 42. first year playing, every random that I have ever played with has been astonished that im new to the game at all.

This is why golf is so rewarding, when you get past the phase of giving yourself gimmie to mulligans and foot wedges, you start to score better and have legitimate rounds. When you score in the 70s on a legit round it's very rewarding. That's the point of keeping score.

je_t.aime_canard@VTshredder69 an absolutely massive £22 won by betting on Rory, he tried so fucking hard to lose though
the level of mental fortitude that rory demonstrated on sunday is beyond what any mortal human could comprehend. Most professional golfer in his spot would have folded in round 1 this week, rory is one of the most talented golfers we have ever seen.
The dude has had this grand slam on his back for 10+ years, a masters win on his back for 14 years, being the top PGA guy during all this LIV stuff, this dude deserves a win and some peace and quiet.
People who shit on Bryson's presence in golf media are just jealous TBF, he is absolutely crushing it with the younger crowd and its sort of funny to see these "golf influencers" shake in their boots, the idea that golfers would become personalities literally ends their "job".
I bought some clubs on marketplace and a membership to the local when I was in NZ last. Havent played since. A lot of the guys on the crew play regularly here so I'm thinking of getting a new set of clubs. I don't stay for the summer but could get enough in for spring and fall to make it worth while
