so i’ve got this pair of line mordecais. i pull up to alta yesterday, pull them out of my car, and realize the edge and base has separated underfoot. i’m not sure if this a delaminating issue or if the wood core cracked. not sure if you can tell from pictures but there seems to be a split in the wood, not just a separation of layers.
i bought the skis off someone and they’re from 2019 so i can’t get a warranty claim right? should i try to glue it back together? or am i just screwed?
Epoxy epoxy epoxy. West systems G flex if u want to ball out. But honestly most people I know ride skis way more busted than both examples here in the park daily. Do what u can to squeeze longevity and ride them til they blow tf up
OP I have had many delams like this. If you're not hitting rails it can last several rides if it's done well enough and early on. Take it somewhere reputable or DIY and they could last til end of season at least. As someone else said, I've seen way more busted shit being ridden, you'll be alright
Those are done. When the wood is splintered like that, it's not really fixable. They are ski-able, but the ski is going to feel super soft on that edge and continually wash out until they completely come apart. Even with epoxy, they are going to keep peeling apart. Cut your loss and find another pair of skis.
g_lectrolyteWhile we’re on this topic do u think my outsiders are fixable or nah. Smoked a couple rocks and a tree
All 4 edges seem fucked
You might be able to fix these but I wouldn't bother. Wouldn't hurt to take the toe piece off and see if you can notice a crack in the topsheet. It looks like the ski might have cracked on the screw holes.
i had a pair of old armada's that i tore up real good.
by the end of their life, i was putting holes thru the bindings and trying to pin the ski back together with nuts and bolts i think... they were something you might just find in a junkyard by the time i moved on.
if you just don't give a fuck about the skis anymore, then you could experiment with your own techniques on how to get the glue to hold that shit back together.
i'm not recommending this by any means, but as an example. grab your handy cordless drill and put a nice bit on the end (maybe the diameter of a pencil). drill a few holes directly thru the ski near the edge where things are splitting apart. if the wood is exposed, you can use a wood glue to start getting the fibers to all bond back together. mix that wood glue with a little bit of water, then you can be sure to saturate the wood. (wood glue bonds wood to itself to a point that it is just as strong, basically). make sure you let that dry completely. completely dry.
now, fill those holes you drilled full of epoxy and let those boys cure for the next day or two.
if the metal edge is cracked and poking out of the ski, this is a little tougher to get back into place. if you're in a pinch and don't have tools, just clip the off the pieces that's poking out with some wire cutters and pretend like you're on a pair of BDOG edgeless. otherwise, you can try a technique (i've never tried this) and use a nail gun to shoot narrow diameter pins up thru base and into the edges inner lipp into the core and thru the top-sheet, creating a in many ways flawless edge repair... hope that helps...
