Never have I witnessed a more catastrophic failure from less than a full day of skiing. This guy was a 45 year old guy from Hong Kong who was hardly aggressive.
normally I’d have thought he ran it over with his rental car or something but the guy is staying at a ski-in ski-out accom and his instructor was literally filming his turns when it happened.

PacificRimJobI can’t even come up with a good reason for this.
Probably a pre-existing crack from the factory that didnt get caught by quality control. Add in temperature fluctuations and the abuse even light skiing puts on gear, the crack grows exponentially. You can't guarantee 100% of items produced are free of flaws and this guy just got unlucky.
Edit: this is why you should always pay close attention to your gear, whether it's been solid for years or brand new

thousands of pours/boot shells gonna hava bad one along the way nah?
Mini pipe at crystal. Steepened the walls especially skiers right last night. Not bad for cat built non zaugg halfpipe. Not many of them exist either. For about 1 shift worth of work I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Decks are level and straight. Going to keep cutting the transition steeper but rides pretty good right now.
SimkiwinkiManual turning can be such a pleasant work probably the machining I like the most
I love some manual machining but CNC turning is badass. Made myself a pretty little pen with CNC for contours, and manual for drilling and tapping since the CNC lathe wasn’t set up for drills
