Faction prodigy 3.0

I am thinking what skis to grab for next season, I ski park and all mountain, like to butter and flex the skis. I weight about 70kg and I am 178cm long. I am thinking of getting the faction prodigy 3.0, what do you guys think? If you have any suggestions on what skis I would enjoy myself on, let me know. Oh and I live in finland so I dont have access To on3p or jskis, I might have chance to get surfaces, with the same order as my friend.

The prodigy is pretty stiff and hard to butter so if you want a soft ski that has all mountain capabilities, get the Line blend, armada edollo or if you want something a bit better at all mountain get the chronic.

Do not get the blend, go for something more along the lines of a reckoner 102

Is the faction prodigy 3.0 not too wide for all mountain / park ? Is the prodigy 2.0 not a better choice ? What do you think guys, 106 mm for all season, all mountain and park ?

I have seen prodigy 3.0 work on some guys at my resort Ruka

Would recommend the Prodigy 2.0 over the 3.0 as it will be lighter, softer flexing and more fun in the park.

I have discussed with some of the faction team members, and they seems to use mostly the 3.0. I feel like 106mm is quite large haha

The demos I rode were fun! Super stable and poppy, can still butter if you put your back into it. Much better than my blends and my buddies chronic which are unstable and unresponsive noodles. The factions kill it outside of the park too.

Sounds super nice! How do they work on rails and techical stuff?

Technical is in off trail chutes and cliffs? If so amazing. They can charge pretty well for sure. Rails you would want them more toward the center mount and I don't see why they wouldn't be fine.

The 21 Prodigy line is still solid flexing underfoot but softer tip and tail vs some of the previous Prodigy versions or compared to the 21 Candide which has a solid flex pattern tip to tail. Earlier Prodigy skis were sometimes stiffer than the Candide versions but that was reversed in 2021.
The 2021 Prodigy line are definitely not noodles but more playful in the tip/tail than some previous versions or 21 Candides.

The 2021 Prodigy 2.0 is about 250grams lighter in the 183cm vs the 184cm Prodigy 3.0. Both solid skis with the 2.0 having lighter swing weight and the 3.0 more damp, stable and better float.

Out of interest, can you confirm they changed the 2.0 flex for 2021? I know they changed up the 3.0/4.0 and they are both much softer in the tip/tail, I had two pairs of the 3.0s (178 for park, 184 for everything else). But the reason I, (and Dan/Antti from talking to them) mostly ride the 3.0 vs 2.0 is that the 2.0 has always been much stiffer and I find them less fun (or in the case of vs the older 3.0, much less rockered). That includes the '21 2.0 samples I tried (but I believe those may have been new topsheets on the '20 skis) but they could have been switched up for production, so I'm wondering if they were?

Based on the lower weights vs Factory spec on your review pair of 2021 Prodigy 2.0 and 2021 Candide 1.0 makes me wonder if they were an early/pre-production pair for them. All of the Faction skis this year seem to measure VERY close to quoted spec and if anything they are a bit heavier. Your Candide 1.0 were about 75 grams lighter than spec and your Prodigy 2.0 were 100 grams lighter than 2021 spec and exactly 2020 weight spec.

All are still firm underfoot but not as firm on the extremes like before.

Of course I just saw someone online mention the Candide line “getting lighter next year” so I inquired and they once again changing the Candide line for 2022. Candide 1.0 slightly narrower and more directional and the 2.0 and 3.0 stay the same dimensions. The big news is they are moving production to different production factory(well known and solid one) but the weights on the Candide line are dropping back to 2020 and earlier levels. 1.0 and 2.0 drop 400 grams and the 3.0 drops about 200 grams. Pondering buying back ups as I love the heavier 2021 versions.

So not sure if the Prodigy line will change weight/flex as well for 2022 but I’m assuming it will be softer tip/tail than the Candide line? 🤷

The most recent 2.0s I've skied were definitely a pre-production model... the build was different from my 3.0s, so it looks like I have not skied the most recent 2.0. I hope they changed the flex to mirror the 3.0 because that would be an amazing park+ ski. I love the 3.0 but I'd prefer a narrower ski with the same flex for my uses. I have always found the 2.0 to be too stiff, but if that is no longer the case, I'd make the switch.

Interesting on the Candide line. The catalog I was sent back in December doesn't show a weight drop for the 1.0/2.0, it simply lists the 2.0 as a new shape (mirroring the CT 3.0 more).

I’ve had less time on the Prodigy line but the reviews on this site back up what I remember of them.

The 2019 Prodigy 2.0 was very tapered like a powder ski and was pretty stiff overall. Hit and miss build quality as you found out.

2020 Prodigy 2.0 went a bit wider with less taper, a pure poplar core and a bit stiffer over all.

2021 Prodigy 2.0 was made at the Fisher plant so build quality up as well as the weight up a bit. Same shape as 2020 with softer tips/tails.

2021 Prodigy 3.0 would again be made in the Fisher plant and have a similar flex pattern to the 2021 2.0. Haven’t flexed them back to back vs the 2021 2.0 but I’m sure they are similar. Assuming with the decent jump up in weight on the 3.0 and the fact that the 2021 Candide 3.0 is a hair stiffer than the 2021 Candide 2.0 makes me assume if there is a difference, it’s a touch stiffer on the 3.0. My 2021 CT 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 all have very similar flex patterns and so does the 2021 Prodigy Line.

So after discussing with one of faction team commercial member, here is what she told me :

- Prod 2.0 have not been changed between 19/20 and 20/21, so the flex is the same @Twig (which is, iyo if i understand well, a bit too stiff and not playful enough ?)
- Since 20/21 3.0 & 4.0 are made with 1.0 and 2.0 in Autria

The 2021 Prodigy 2.0 did not change shape/width/rocker etc but it was made in the Fisher plant in 2021 and gained 100 grams and even according to their own website, got a little softer tip/tail like the 2021 Prodigy 3.0 and 4.0 did in their designs. Same specs but slightly different build in the 2021 versions.

Correct. After moving all their production to Fisher for 2021 they are now moving to Amer for 2022. The 2022 Candide models dropping A LOT in weight(200-400 grams) vs the 2021 versions so are no longer going to be the damp, playful chargers of 2021. No idea what is happening with the Prodigy line for 2022.
