stop projecting your only known mental state onto your household pet. I mean I don’t blame you, cause you don’t know no better. But I think it’s essential for people to realise dogs are not conscious!
a dog has no capacity for internal thought, for example it does not see a cookie jar then plan for several days on the best way to open it, dogs do not sit back and strategise. Perhaps a defining characteristic of our consciousness - the ability to have internal thought.
like most animals dogs are unconscious reactive automata. Simply responding to the environment around them through learned behaviour and reactive behaviour which is instilled into their brains through thousands of years of breeding.
for some people this concept may be hard to grasp, and I can understand that. And what relevance does this have if any? Well off the top of my head , it doesn’t change a lot really. It’s more of an interesting piece of information!
