So fucking done with shipping shit

How the fuck do you guys sell stuff on the bst without any problems? I've run into so much bullshit...recently shipped a pair of skates to tHE UK and the USPS website said $65 flat rate shipping and they charged me $95 at the post office. Now the guy receiving it says he paid €50 in customs and I told him I'd cover it because I know I shouldn't make him just eat it. So in the end I pretty much made nothing off these skates, fml. I shipped them a couple weeks back and he still hasn't fucking gotten them.
Exorbitant cost bullshit like this has happened to me before this and in other situations and I'm fucking done with it, I'll let my dumb sports purchases pile up in my room so everyone can see how much money I waste. Fuck it. Fuck USPS, fuck UPS, fuck everything.

The online 'quote' stuff can be a real trap. Went to UPS to ship my two bikes home expecting a $90 dollar ticket each (online quote). Got the bikes packed up and went to UPS and ended be $500 to get the rigs home.

Just have to be aware of weight and dimensions. As well as in your case, duty and such.

Shipping is intimidating to me, I never know what I'm doing when I take a package to the post office. I have gear I want to sell but I don't want to put it on here because of having to ship it somewhere

Yes. Flat rate boxes are only useful for overweight items. Read the fine print too. The post office has a lot of fine print. Essentially they're a higher priced package that you can ship anything you can fit in the box for the flat rate. I used to sell on ebay all the time and I've found that flat rate shipping can be upwards as twice as expensive. I never ship flat rate ever. Shipping skis with the post office can be very expensive if they're over the length limit. Shipping through customs is always an extra surcharge. If you encounter a surprise in the future like this, leave the post office and reevaluate your shipping strategy.

Also being Jesus doesn't help you either. Never offer to pay someone else's custom costs. You pay to ship, do your part. Anything after that is their fucking problem.

And when shipping internationally, I ALWAYS made buyers pay shipping for the sole reason that shipping prices can change so drastically.

I got family that is management of UPS and @Bdoobz knows whats up, they are big government.

If you got a contact or connection that works for UPS or FedEx, you can usually have them ship stuff for super cheap. I worked for FedEx(2005-2008) and I could ship anything ground for $3 within the states.

Yeah, anything outside of the US I make the buyer pay shipping, really anytime I sell anything I make the buyer pay shipping, they want your product, they can pay the price for shipping

There is so much bad advice in this thread. I ship a tremendous amount of stuff, primarily to the US but also around the world. Flat rate boxes are fantastic (for domestic shipping). Unless you're shipping something very, very light flat rate is usually the way to go. In other cases, when you need a shipping box for something small and light, use a small flat rate box but wrap it in paper wrap or a paper shopping bag. Then you have a free box and don't need to ship it with the flat rate cost.

The absolute best value in shipping is the Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Padded Envelope. For $8 you can cram as much stuff in there as possible. They are free, but post offices do not carry them. You have to order them off the usps website. I order them by the hundred and use them as packing material (free bubble wrap) and also as the mailer.

When shipping international the best you can do is claim a significantly lower value and say that it is a gift. This will help the recipient. Absolutely do not offer to pay duty, customs, vat, etc. That is their responsibility. Make certain you do not lose out on shipping either. For most people shipping internationally is not worth the hassle. I shipped internationally yesterday and it was fine but I did not lose out.

This. Usually claiming 50 bucks and under doesn't require them to pay customs fees. The only downside is if it is lost, the postal service will only cover that amount for reimbursement.

UPS is big and only getting bigger. They have recently taken on Amazons shipments along with a few other companies such as Cologaurd shipping everyones literal shit to test for colon cancer. Great company to work for but you earn it.
