You'll be plenty fine.


Loving the new skis. But do you guys use a different edge material now? I've got 4-5 days on them, and without knowingly having hit anything bad, and have two weird jagged dents on the edges already.

On the flip side, was skiing some trees and landed quite firmly on a small tree stump, which resulted in absolutely zero damage to the bases

Same edge material as before, base was upgraded a season or two ago though.

How are the wildcats (or maybe the deathwish?) as a primarily east coast all mountain freestyle ski? I don’t want a really soft ski, I’m considering a wildcat 101 to complement my park ski when I’m doing a primarily all mountain freestyle day.

Went from 1.5mm 4001 Durasurf to 1.5mm 7500 series carbon infused UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene). Tested it a few seasons ago and were very pleased with the speed, wax retention, durability and repairability of it over what we were previously using, so we made the switch.

Are the moment bases sintered as well?

Sintered. J does use 1.8mm base, but personally we feel 1.5mm is plenty durable for our applications and doesn't add unnecessary weight to the ski.

Yeah whatever Moment's old base material was was really bad. That stuff was about as durable as tissue paper. I don't know about your new material but I would be hesitant to take the chance.

The old base was the same base ON3P currently uses lol albeit a little bit less beefy by a few mm

No chance the durasuft 4001 is pretty damn good. That's the toughest base they made before this new 7500 series.

The 4001 might not be the fastest base out there, but it was definitely one of the toughest. You must weight like 200+ and be charging rock lines, because the 4001 durasurf is definitely nothing like tissue paper.

Curious to see this 7500 series carbon base though.

I guess. This is 2 seasons use. I've stopped putting money into them because they seem to be incurably base high. I've had similar issues with my old pbj's too. Meanwhile my 4frnt and k2's have no coreshots at all. I dunno maybe just bad luck when I ride my moments.

Damn dog. That's wild. Though, I will say I was on some ON3Ps for 3 seasons, and they're supposed to have pretty tough edges, and I broke those multiple times over the course of their use. I feel like stuff like that, and this with the bases, just comes down to and wear and tear (plus skiing a lot of days in a season). But yeah, the Durasuft 4001 was the toughest stuff you could get for years. Hopefully this 7500 carbon series is better.

I'd buy those off you depending the price of course (if your willing to sell). Just PM me if your interested.

I'd say though, you could base weld those, and give it a base grind if your base high, & check with a true bar to see that your all set again. If you did that you'd be fine for another season if the repair work is done correctly. What's great about those Moments is that if you need to base grind you can do quite a few passes on the machine bc the base material is so thick compared to most other skis.

could be wrong but i believe these were the new bases not the 4001. Those are 2019/20s right?

RAcecARmancould be wrong but i believe these were the new bases not the 4001. Those are 2019/20s right?

Old 4001 base on that model.

We now source our base from IsoSport in Europe. It's the same place we source our topsheet and sidewall from as well.

All moved in! Sierra 162's should be available for preorder in 2-3 weeks with an estimated ship date of mid / late March.

Commander 108 is done for the season, we're still producing a small run of both the shorter lengths of the 98 offering.

More 108's will be available August 2022 with the new graphic, no construction changes planned.

Finally got to ride my Wildcat 101's after a year in storage since buying them (thanks Covid, you dick!) What an awesome ski, had a total blast riding shallow powder and soft groomers on them, held an edge really well on piste and bounced through chopped up lines easily, great swing weight as well, perfect mix of jibbiness and backbone, really stoked on the ski.

@hot.pocket I know it's unlikely but if you ever decided to make a 90mm version for low snow days spent mostly on groomers I would be all over that ski like a rash!

if the 101 is anything like the last PBJ which i think it is then it absolutely destroys groomers so spend that money on a 116.

They're solid on groomers for sure, I just prefer something a little narrower and faster edge to edge for proper piste days with no new snow (but don't want to get a full on frontside ski), got some ON3P Kartel 116's for deep days so that angle is covered.

Just try to grade a pair of ski blades for the low tide days and thank me later. No need for a narrower Wildcat.

Yeah I got a pair this year - they're pretty incredible high-performance sticks, definitely take a bit out of ya by the end of the day but make you feel invincible in most conditions. I live in Vermont and got them for western travel and pow days but they've actually become my daily driver when I'm not skiing park. Surprisingly manageable in moguls and tight trees too. PM me if ya got questions

Can anyone share their experience on the new Commander 98? Looks pretty awesome.

I'm looking for a low-tide ski where my priority is performance in ungroomed, variable, off-trail snow.
I'm not overly concerned with groomer performance.

Other skis in this general width that I've owned and loved:

2017 Bonafide in 187 - prob the best 100-mm ski I've ever owned
2021 Mantra 102 in 191 - great ski, but too heavy, not enough rocker, and way too much swing-weight to be fun in tight, bumped out places.

Skiing low-tide Alta/Snowbird the last month has got me looking for that ski that makes skiing bumps and variable more fun. Ideally keeping as much of the dampness and stability of Bonafide and M102 that I've loved, but with a primary goal of increasing pivotability and maneuverability in crappy conditions.
