The only reason be-mag has sustained its user base is because their following has never grown, its just maintained it's tiny niche.

That said, there is nothing we can do to save the online community aspect of NS. You've heard it right from the top, NS is losing traffic to the likes of instagram, facebook, etc. Forums are a dying culture.

Yeah we all know that 4chan took over this site and the bans really started hitting hard. I stopped visiting this website for a few years because each time I opened a thread it was a 50/50 that I would want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon due to all the cancerous "banter". OP seems to think that having no moderation would be a good thing. I have to strongly disagree because I quit for several years due to the lack of moderation and obscene troll threads. I have never been an overly active user and I always enjoyed reading threads on this site, I didn't come here to read posts by trolls. It was a cool underground scene with a supportive community that would take most issues seriously. Unless the OP didn't use the search bar.

The reoccurring theme with your examples is that the content embraces an older audience. People who watch MMA, are into politics, etc, are of an older generation that grew up with forum based media outlets. I think gaming may be an exception only because of the amount of detailed dialogue, walkthroughs, storylines, etc that cant be provided through instagram or facebook (like a heater ski clip could for example). The problem with NS is that, while there are still a few active senior members that still use forums, there is a lack of new active younger members. There is no new generation of users because our sport (and NS at large) attracts a youthful audience that just isnt interested in forum based media.

I just found this place, but only because I was searching my own forum and saw a thread about it here from like 2006 or something. Forums aren’t dying because of other social media, they’re dying because they’re hard to find. Go try to google search for another off topic forum like this and you’ll see how few come up, even though there are hundreds of active ones out there.

There have always been good threads and stupid threads. I think the only things that really changed were more members, and people getting older.(younger people coming in)

Even in the most insane times of NSG, there were still plenty of people giving helpful responses and good threads. More threads doesn't means it's all horrible. You can pick and choose what you read. If a thread looks shitty, hit the back button.

There are better ways to manage spam imo. For example, trigger words. Most of the spam on my site gets caught just by words like supplement and enhancement lol. And I bet my site gets wayyy more spam, since it is a more well known forum.

One of the main reason I wasn't active - post every day - was probably from my lack of creativity. I would read the OP have an idea to post in my head, and halfway down my thought was already posted so I wouldn't post anything. So yeah I do like it now. I can visit once or twice a week for a few hours at a time and everything works out fine for me. I really don't care that this site isn't active enough to spend 6+ hours on like it used to be because I am just too busy nowadays.

NSdiedWOdlnThe austrian rollerblade website be-mag.com has kept a steady flow of subscribers because they have good content and their forum is uncensored.
I think NS probly doesnt have the money to pay for moderation at this point, and i think for the sake of ns’s return to popularity thats definitely not a bad thing.
This used to be a fun, happening place to hang out and banter. I think ns could get back its mojo but most importantly it needs to turn the bull loose so the system can grow again

NS just needs to market to the impressionable people new to skiing by other methods than just photo/video. imo NS is too invested in current members than bringing in new blood. Not to mention most people I talk to who are relatively new to the sport within a year or two have never heard of NS.Those are they people they need to be targeting.
