How do we bring ns back to life?

The austrian rollerblade website be-mag.com has kept a steady flow of subscribers because they have good content and their forum is uncensored.
I think NS probly doesnt have the money to pay for moderation at this point, and i think for the sake of ns’s return to popularity thats definitely not a bad thing.
This used to be a fun, happening place to hang out and banter. I think ns could get back its mojo but most importantly it needs to turn the bull loose so the system can grow again

started banning people just for posting in caps, or writing GORILLA, OUT. at the end of each post so you knew that the post was over.

Randy_QuenchThe problem with NS is that, while there are still a few active senior members that still use forums, there is a lack of new active younger members. There is no new generation of users because our sport (and NS at large) attracts a youthful audience that just isnt interested in forum based media.


Unless you happen to be me, a kid in high school that just decided last year to start posting on a pre dead forum for no real reason besides my passion for skiing, but I'm an exception I guess. Only a few of my friends know what newschoolers is outside of it being an instagram page which is just the reality now. Sigh

Make a legit NS team and do profit sharing from ad revenue for exclusive content only hosted on the site or the app. It's the only way to compete with instagram. So much potential here still its just that the whole operation appears to be on cruise control.

I love the irony of how sometimes when ns used to ban you, if you logged in it would send you to http://www.newschooler.com, the idea being that you were the one person on that website, by yourself, bc u got banned from ns. Now its almost like ns has become newschooler.com

Yup. I took a couple year hiatus around that time myself for the exact reasons bort explained; I felt like I was too old for this shit.

The only reason I came back was because I got an office job and needed something other than FB to kill time with. I've since quit that job so I really dont know what I'm still doing here.

Ban the mods who got rid of all the good members, cleaning it up ruined this place.

I will say I see a lot less repost threads than I use too.

I've been working an office job since 2014 but didn't show back up here till about 2-3 weeks ago now. Can't get over how slow this place is since the days of "is my weed laced" and such.

Who are these members that mods "got rid of"? I feel like I keep seeing these comments everywhere. I have yet to hear of one decent member that was "gotten rid of" by mods. I'd be willing to bet most of the members you're referring to just left because they grew up or found better uses of their time.

Probably cause they're grown up, but guys like SFB, aidan g, ar6rider, el barto (?) are missing and were the best (actually fuck ar6). Definelty some more but not looking through my threads I posted on 3 years ago. Idk I just remember every thread had funny shit a few years ago and now it's all sensitive and people actually give good advice to eachother, not "maybe just pee in her butt."

Still love this place and spend to much time on it

NS should host group buys with brands they're probably already working with.

Look at the massive success massdrop.com has had the last few years. They're able to organize and deliver on group buys better than I've ever seen.

If you're not familiar with group buys, basically an organizer will contact a brand or manufacturer and agree to purchase a quantity of a product at an agreed upon price. The more people that join the group and commit to buying that product, the cheaper it becomes. It's the same way retail ordering works. The more you order, the better your volume discounts will be.

Hell, you could even do it with organized ski trips. Work with a travel agency and negotiate volume pricing on heli trips or spring break type shit.

If NS doesn't want to do it (they probably don't), Jskis or On3p should should hit up massdrop and setup some buys.

It’s wild how slow it is compared to the days of 07-11.

I think part of it has to do with that being a bit of a golden age for freeskiing in general. That era witnessed the birth of double flips, which blew everyone’s minds, and then eventually triples. And now we’ve kinda hit a ceiling with quads.

People are still freeskiing but that era felt like some of the most talented riders were still pioneering what was possible on jumps and seeing how far they could push it. People are still pushing the envelope but idk... it feels different now, or maybe I haven’t been paying attention.

I also think the website needs a massive overhaul as far as formatting goes. The forum layout is just too outdated. No one wants to scroll through miles of insanely lazy brain dead jokes and kids huffing their own farts over how HiLARiouS they are.

The site needs an autocollapse feature, where enough thumbs down just minimizes the comment, kinda like Reddit. The answer doesn’t really feel like it should be censorship and bans, it feels like it should be self-filtering.

I’d also go so far as to say the threads themselves should be structured more like a content aggregation site (looking at you again, Reddit) but I think I like the ability to bump old threads way too much for that.

I think the main threads should be sorted by latest reply as a default, but being able to sort by “popular now” (combination of “upvoting” by users combined with frequency of current replies) would help a LOT to give a breath of fresh air to the forum.

Nobody likes to use forums anymore. It’s just super clunky. Reddit is the exception, and for very good reasons that work extremely well for the site.

When NS is dormant my thought is that you cant really do much. It the summer. Not to many people excluding the people on the fringe who daydream about skiing through out the day are on it. All we can do is keep doing what we are doing and spread the gospel of the 2 planks and the resurrection of our sport. Anywho NS in the summer has it benefits. Look at all the hilarious and mush brained threads we get in the off season.
