InsertnamehereI can throw my 3's and 5's fine and I wanna get my backflip down. Should I just buck on a snow on a slushy day or should I wait until I can get to an airbag (wont be for a while)
Okay, I've never landed one on snow. Mostly because I've never had a good place to try it on and my hill had one shitty ass jump this season. But enough of my excuses.
I've never landed a 5 before in my life off of a big jump. Hell I haven't spun a 3 off a "real" jump in like 2 years. Backies are 100% different than spinning. And honestly a fuck ton easier in my opinion.
The first time I ever tried one (on to an airbag) I brought it around first try. It's easy. The hardest part is getting balls to do it and actually committing. After than, it's a piece of cake.
Don't just violently throw your head back. You will knock yourself out. No bueno.
As you approach the take off use your arms and gradually bring them up as you get closer and closer to the take off/pop:
When you pop your arms will be about shoulder height, as you pop, throw them back so they're like up by your head. That movement will send you back like you'd be doing it on tramp. ( I assume you can do these on tramp). It's essentially the motion you do when you do a standing back tuck. You come in, you swing your arms down, bend your knees and swing up and pop. Now do this but elongate it so you are popping at the top of the jump. (I hope this makes sense).
Pop up and set the flip and THEN tuck. Don't just tuck right away, you don't need to rush it. Tuck your knees IN to your chest. Don't do this bullshit where you just bend your legs while keeping your hips open. That kind of tuck does not help you flip at all. Bend at your hips and bring your knees up. As you gain more air awareness you can start to lay it out but you see too many people lay them out and under rotate. Myself included.
Take my advice. Do it on a larger jump. Unless you want to under rotate and die like I did.
Here's my first ever attempt onto the bag.

I didn't throw it that hard. Honestly, I thought I was gonna pussy out. You don't need to whip it around. It floats around pretty easy if you give yourself the air time.
Here is me dying on a very small jump with a very very slow in run.

Obviously had no air time, did not tuck, and just died. Don't be a me.
