After watching them all over and over and being blown away over and over, I've also noticed that some shots look like they possibly used CGI. I realize a lot of it is staged and its a large amount of shots all pieced together to look like one run, but how much is actually not real at all? or is it all legit? I thought maybe a lot of it wasn't real just based on how ridiculous it was, but then saw on Candides insta the pond butter shot from a different view and now I'm thinking that maybe every shot is 100% legit. The dude is an animal after all. Thoughts?
The helicopter gap and the jump over the para-gliders were also shown from different angles. The window in the barn was the only cgi in the entire edit.

The only part of that that didn't look real was him coming out of the butter right before the jump. There was no water flying up like there normally should be
the backflip at 2:40 in one of those days 1 looks edited
in one of those days 2 I think 2:35 the eagle is animated, 4:15 the lift was not spinning and the people were animated (although he probably boosted that I'd love to see another angle), and the last clip where he spins onto the deck where people are eating I would imagine being edited as well.
one of those days 3 :40 seconds where he just drops his skis and rides away is edited nicely. The barn at 3:30 is the most obvious cgi. pretty goddamn fake. and then I do think the heli shot and cork 7 onto grass are probably real. that is all my own speculation i have zero inside information. one think I do know for sure is Candide is a goddamn mad man.
The previous OOTD were all awesome. This one I really wasn't impressed with at all besides the balls it took to jump over the heli. This one seemed so staged and more of a edit to please the common mass than true freeskiers as were the past bunch who could really appreciate the tricks off the natural features.
Hope he goes back to the more natural tricks and what not like the older vids
SonOfAnderIm not doubting he can doa cork 7, im doubting the physics of landing on grass coming down from that high and going that fast.
have you ever grass skied? with a little moisture you are all set.
I believe that shot is real. I think most of it is real, there are a few times where the cuts are a bit weird and they could be cutting it here in there to exaggerate the truth. For the most part I think they were actually executed though.
The hardest part of a series like this is to keep it going without becoming too repetitive. POV lines are usually not the most entertaining because these type of shots are fairly empty. You are seeing someone riding from their own point of view with nothing else in the shot.
To fill this void, things have to be a bit more staged (since it's unlikely that you're going to be jumping over cop cars or helicopters otherwise). That's what Candide has been doing to keep these videos captivating. It leaves a lot more up to the imagination about what is real or created with effects, but that creates an opportunity for discussion which makes the video that much more mysterious and engaging.
It makes you question what is possible in skiing? Can you send a 40 foot cork 7 and land on a hill covered in grass, probably.. Is that what actually happened in this video? Probably not ;)
Appreciate this like a James Bond film (or the Last Friday Virtika series). The Last Friday videos weren't actually filmed in a day and Candide didn't jump through a window and steal a random person's horse. Candide is one of best skiers to have ever lived and helped innovate the sport of freesking, so with a character like this, the most surreal POV ski videos are able to be produced (with lots of planning and post-production).

Class A reply, answered a lot of my questions. thanks homie

Thanks man. I was actually also answering questions for myself in the process of writing that.
Candide's series are currently some of the most viral videos exposing freeskiing to the public, this James Bond'esque storyline that combines reality and fiction is what helps draw in this bigger audience.
Watching a ski/ snowboard video with music and a very basic storyline (overcoming adversity, having fun with friends, appreciating the beauty of the mountains......) does not engage the general public. It is just an action sports niche.
This series tells a new story and inspires curiosity from almost every viewer. "Look at this crazy frenchman flying around on skis. Woah is this real?...."
Good storytelling is what truly makes for good filmmaking and to do this you often have to really get "outside the box"

I can safely say that him dropping his skis and skiing away wasnt edited at all. I tried that just last night took me 3 tries but as each nose hits the snow you just put your toe in and hope you click right the first try. its actually pretty damn fun to do

yeah, exactly how natural the candide invitationals were

There was a report on news in France about his video, showing the behind the scene of the jump over the bicycle race. It was shot in Val D'Isère in June.
There was also an article, in french, analyzing every shots of the video (the second part is coming next week)
It's in french but anyway, http://www.skipass.com/news/131651-one-of-those-fake-1-2.html
The tv report is in this article.
In my opinion OOTD3 is too much of a show, it has lost it's authenticity to be spectacular. OOTD 2 was the perfect balance between authenticity and show. Anyway I still enjoyed the 3rd, that was crazy, even if it is fake, it is quite well done and it is refreshing to see something different. And it makes visibility for freeskiing without any drama involved, so well, it can only be good right ?
I acknowledged that it's probably possible to do a 40ft cork 7 and land on grass, I just didn't believe that he actually put in the work to make it happen. There's other parts of the video that seem to have CGI, so why not use CGI there too. The alternative angle FB video is impressive but it shows how much setup went into getting that shot. Not sure why you're stoked that he "proved us wrong." I don't doubt Candide's abilities in the slightest bit but after seeing this I accepted that not everything in his recent videos is 100% real.
I'm referring specifically to the flat 3 into the car. I used to think the 360 over the tractor was fake too, but now I'm open to believing that the shot could be real and had a snow takeoff that you can't see from the camera angles.
If I see a 2nd angle of him jumping through that barn window and smashing glass everywhere, then I'll really feel like I've been proven wrong.. Here's another classic example of Candide using CGI:
Flat 3 over Tour de France shot is wicked. For some reason the POV shot is a cork 7 and action on the road is CGI, I'm guessing he just didn't have he GoPro with him at the time. Legendary.

Set up, maybe. I don't believe it's CGI, not sure what you're seeing.
all the flag guys are there runnin around in both shots. The most amazing cgi, if it is.(pretty sure it's not)

Not arguing on the real shot. He did trick over a bike race and that wasn't cgi, the POV shot is a different trick with a perfect recreation of the scene from the real shot. Candide is known to use subtle cgi in these edits.

you misunderstood what I meant by set up. I'm not arguing on the insta clip either, the POV shot in ootd3 is a cork seven, done over the same crowd, in different positions on the road.
why use cgi when you can just do it
the crowd is fake, but not computer fake
