This just in: My pass is blacked out which sucks but on X-mas day I was skiing untouched fresh pow from when the storm first started at the Canyons from 1-4 PM. It required some bush whacking and possibly out-of-bounds/closed trail traversing but it was some of the best skiing I've ever had.

And whoever yelled at Gary and his kids, fuck you. You are what ruins skiing, you gaper piece of shit. See you at Solitude!

Drailhad nothing better to do so I did some searching at ski hills that I figured would be on the cheaper end of things and found:

Wolf Creek, CO = $65/day
Taos, NM = $86/day
Bridger Bowl, MT = $54/day
Alta, UT = $89/day

Wolf creek gets some mega pow days too

Bridger bowl is the best on that list, I grew up skiing there in middle/high school and it snows a shit ton up there and it has some of the best terrain in north america, very comparable to jackson/alta/etc

My parents just moved to Montana this summer and I'm stoked to *hopefully* spend some time skiing there this winter

Ok OP, I'd like to tell you a little bit about where I ski, Hyland Hills, Minnesota. Parking in the main lot is $20, it has a little less than 200 feet vertical, it's run by the city which means if you poach, start a fight or whatever, the police can arrest. Not mountain police, actual police. The season pass I have cost me $350. which is a little more than half of what you pay for two resorts out west. We have about 100 acres of skiable terrain (an estimate) compared to your 7,300. If someone could give me the actual number of acres of skiable terrain we have, that would be great.

Pretty sure its only til 7 now. For years it was only 730 then they added lights to three kings and were open til 9 for one year, then its been 8 for a couple years and now its 7.

the ghee is silly fun when its on and everything's open.

From 2010-2012 i took my pops on vacation there right after christmas- it was like $110/person for lift ticket plus LITERALLY ski up lodging. Like i had to ski by my room to get to the lodge. there is no nightlife in Driggs anyways so chilling at the lodge bar was perfect for apres/dinner.

Crystal Mtn in Washington is a really rad resort and is only $72. huge mountain, incredible views, and a lot of big mtn pros call it home for a reason.

Every business's main priority is large profit. Vail is just dealing with supply/demand. If they can get away charging $140 a day for a ticker and people will pay well thats great for their shareholders/investors.

Don't like it? Plenty of other options to ski

The last 2 years I have had my season passes to Brighton and Snowbird with the occasional Alta day.(Gets better quality and quantities of snow) Why I decided to get an epic pass this year is beyond me. I must have been stupid drunk or stupid high because VAIL SUCKS. Really I just got it for mad mad cheap, but wouldn't do it again even if it was cheaper.

PC/Canyons: Over crowded, NO new terrain, just a gondola (Quiksilver) that takes you from side to side. Been stopped by "Mountain Safety"(Po-Po on skis) 3x for the smallest/dumbest things who were on an extreme power trip and rudeness level was over 9000. Went to buy an apple and saw the menu. $6 for a side of fries, $10 for a SLICE of pizza, $15 for a chili dog and fries, and I saw an $18 salad. I don't eat while I ski usually it's just the principal. Families that visit are supposed to pay $125 for a day pass each, then that for lunch? That's just ridiculous.

Very disappointed in my pass purchasing this season. Am I being sensitive or do others feel the same?

I get what you mean but pic passes themselves are a great deal, only 800 bucks for so much skiing

i totally agree, vail is ridiculous.

i have an alta pass and i ski there pretty much every day i go up, either that or the bird. over the holidays though i went skiing i think 2 days at pc/canyons because some of my out of state relatives were skiing there so i thought i would join them. it was just sad, like its not even skiing over there. its just one big business with vail and so many of the people skiing there don't even seem to enjoy it. And going in that lodge next to silverload and quicksilver gondola was probably one of my worst experiences skiing ever

i probably won't go back the rest of this season, Alta is where it's at
