Hi everyone,

I need you help here to choose a lightweight FSBC configuration for the next season.

Profile :
- 1m72 / 65kg
- 60% FSBC / 40% park
- Location : French Alps

Configuration :

- Most lightweight bindings found : Marker Squire (Pair : 1540g)

- Most lightweight boots found : Full Tilt Classic (Single boot / 27.5 : 1876g)

- I want a ski very lightweight, very playful, waist around 100mm and size around 170-172cm. Here is a selection :

LINE Blend / 171cm / Weight (Pair) : 3600g

SALOMON Rocker2 100 / 170cm / Weight (Pair) : 3560 g

FACTION Chapter 106 (2016) / 172cm / Weight (Pair): 3500 g

ARMADA Al Dente / 168cm / Weight (Pair) : 3460 g

LINE SIR FRANCIS BACON (2016) / 178cm / Weight (Pair) : 3400 g

FACTION CT 3.0 (2016) / 176 cm / Weight (Pair) : 3400 g

What do you think about this configuration ? Which ski should I take ? Another ski which is not in this selection ?

Thanks for thinking of Amplid, but the Multiplayer (108mm/4150g/184cm) and Rockwell (96mm/4050g/182cm) are probably a better choice than the Antidogma which is more of park ski.

Honestly, binding wise don't go for squires. They are one of the most undurabLe bundings out on the market, and looking for the most fragile, light weight binding is a mistake. I'd recommend the attack 13 because it's really durable for its weight, and it's still light weight for a 13 din.

man iv used squires in the past, they work fine if ur not a big guy and you arnt hitting big jumps or hefty rails. mine have lasted a while.

yeah OP i have to ask, do you have any good evidence that the weight is that much of a difference to you?

for touring and shit, yeah-- a pound or two difference, marching uphill all day, makes a difference. for park, i dont think that's so obvious. i felt the same way you do when i was young and new to park, of course i want everything light as possible!

but for starters, when discussing bindings, lighter definitely does not equal better. that is self explanatory id think

as for skis, the amplids mentioned vs the lightest ski on your list (which are super light skis, as they go, i think) is a difference of like a pound per ski. i really don't think that makes all that much difference when youre talking about the speeds and jump etc lengths that skiing concerns itself with.

i guess what im saying is: can anyone provide any convincing evidence that a 1-2 pound difference between two sets of park skis has any effect beyond the mental one?

Saving weight in skis and boots makes a massive difference. Having a ski wit lower swing weight helps but if you can make the entire ski lighter it's just so muc easier to pop and throw them around.

Same me with boots if not more so. A light weight boot makes such a difference. I rode a crazy light atomic setup last season and the height I was poping wa just crazy it surprised me even how much of a difference it made.

Binong wise if you can find somthing decent that is a good weight too that is awesome but I still look for performance first with bindings.

To to be honest the op is one season too early. 2017 is when the new generation of really light gear arrives.

Sir Francis Bacon + Tyrolia/Head/Fischer Attack 13. Bindings are a whole different league to Squires and not much heavier. And the SFB is probably the most versatile of the lightweight skis I've tried, it definitely feels significantly lighter than the 3.0, especially in the air, even if it isn't.

idk, i'll happily concede boots, but for park skis ive always thought the weight differences were really overblown. i think the perceived differences have more to do with the mental effect of knowing the supposed weight, and moreover, the flex and snap of the ski.

i just find it so hard to believe that saving 1 or 2 pounds off of my ~18 lb skis-boots-bindings setup makes much difference in the speeds and distances in skiing, and CERTAINLY should not take priority over the performance and durability of what i buy

regardless, without evidence this is all conjecture and it's all subjective anyway. moving on, why do you say 2017 is the year of light gear? what specifically makes you say that?

All I can really suggest is try it and see. I honestly did not think it would make much of a difference but it really did help.

As for 2017 gear it's well into development so I have seen things that are on the way.

oh, i have for sure. ive skied most of the well known park skis of the past 15 ish years. when i was new to the sport i was obsessed with light this and light that but nowadays im more than happy with a medium weight and i prioritize other aspects

you certainly know more about gear tech than me, it's just that in this case i wonder if the placebo effect of knowing the weights etc affects your perceived difference as much as the actual weight.

that's its own argument-- i just want to stress to OP that weight might not be the best thing to consider paramount when choosing (park) skis.

re: the 2017 tech, i knew that much. do you mind elaborating?

Well if you look at what quite a few brands are working towards is making there park skis lighter. For an example k2 created much lighter weight cores for the woman's park skis and the male team riders were asking to use them so it's being extended into the men's range. So the k2 athletes seem to think it helps.

But think about it. In the park we are often popping up onto things and spinning the skis. Any time you can save any weight the amount you can pop and spin will increase.

Try sticking a heavy rucksack on and see how high you can jump compared to no pack. It won't be a big difference but there will be a slight improvement without the weight. Now imagine how many times you pop throughout the day Skiing. If every pop is even just the slightest bit easier then you will be getting overall less tired and you may be able to ski for longer.

As for 2017 gear no sorry you will have to wait just a little longer.

the new sir francis bacon is the lightest pow ski i've put on my foot to date...with demo bindings at that. the swing weight is unbelievable how low it is, and extremely playful. I'll be picking up a pair for myself for touring...

for bindings, you could get marker griffons or marker jesters. jester are the higher din binding and they're more durable, but also heavier. I have griffons on both pairs of my skis and I've never had a problem with either. if those don't interest you, theres the look pivot and rossi fks. good luck with your search man and have fun this season!

yea lightwieght skis and boots are nice, I'm happy with my carbon core skis and krII pros. but lightweight bindings? fuck that give me all metal heavy as fuck p18s, fks 15s would also work. no binding out there gives as responsive and solid of a feel as the metal toe'd pivots.

I think swing weight and the weight distribution of the ski/binding setup probably affect your skiing more than the difference in 500 grams. Light skis are definitely easier to move quickly, but heavier skis just require you to be slightly more deliberate with some motions.

Heavy skis are usually way more durable(thicker edges, bases, stronger core material) if you want your skis to last multiple seasons of park abuse.
