When this shit happens we should just put a wall around the city and block them off from the rest of the world. Let them burn it down and destroy everything they need to survive. Fuck trying to help human scum like these people

It's not like every single citizen is starting fires.
-benedettoAre you referring to the viral video from last week/the week before when the cop also dropped the taser?
This is what i find so funny bout the whole situation. Nobody even knows who the guy these protests are about is. The riots/protests gave no awareness other than the people behind the "cause" are idiots.
From what I read Freddie Gray, the guy who died, ran from the cops, was arrested, sustained injuries, didnt receive medical attention, broke his spine, died a week later.

Holy fuck. I did see some headlines that there are peaceful protest going on as well in the area but the media isn't covering them like this chaos. It's all fucked. But instead of lumping everyone in Baltimore in to one category, people should be aware that its not EVERYONE. I'm not saying everyone is racist but this country leans toward closet racist views.
-benedettoAre you referring to the viral video from last week/the week before when the cop also dropped the taser?
no i'm referring to another case where the innocent victim ran from the cops. in this case it's all alleged, in the one you referenced it was on film
freddie gray allegedly ran from the cops, was finally apprehended and arrested on some bullshit law about having a switchblade or something similar in his pocket. the most likely scenario is he was then put in a van without a seatbelt and purposely thrown around on the drive to rough him up, where he sustained a neck injury and later died.
from what i can tell most of the details are sketchy at best- there's not really answers for why was he running in the first place, or why the cops were after him before he took off. sounds like the police fucked up at some point along the way though for sure.
Check this out. I'm not condoning what's happening in Baltimore at all; it's stupid and only making the problem worse. However, at least they did have a valid issue to protest over in the first place, which can't be said about tons of other riots in our recent history.

I dont think anyone is saying the current rioting is bad because its black people or that only black people riot... in fact i dont think i read a single post in here implying either of those things
They also have a black Police Commissioner and a black mayor. What else do they want? I know they're just rioting because they are taking advantage of the situation, but it's just ridiculous and proves Baltimore is a cesspool.
Cool it NS. What you're criticizing is a only tiny fraction of the protests. Tens of thousands took to the streets in peaceful marches and rallies and yes, some did turn violent, but statistically, the number of those who are looting, starting fires and cutting fire hoses are a very, very small percent. During nearly every major protest this happens, and the media blows it well out of proportion, as in Ferguson, LA, and even with Occupy Wallstreet. Also, large sporting events attract the same sort of behavior if not worse, yet we are presented with this information as "Fans take to the streets after Sox Win", when in fact these (mostly white) fans are burning cars, clashing with police and creating just as many public problems. The Police's complete disregard of Black, Latino, migrant and minority communities outweighs the petty violence 100 times, and it's time we pay attention to what matters, and not to the small minority who made the decision to cut a firehose or loot a CVS.

A quote from the Baltimore Sun. "Baltimore Police said 235 arrests were made overnight -- 201 adults and 34 juveniles. Twenty officers were injured in Monday night's violence.
The mayor's office said the city's fire department dealt with fires in 144 vehicles and 15 buildings. Baltimore police said one person is in critical condition after one of those fires"
A 144 cars were set on fire and 15 Buildings torched including a senior center.
I would not put that in the Catogory of "petty violence".

You know what? Fuck it... I'm glad there's violence going on and I hope to see more. Perhaps it will scare the white fuckers in power to actually do something for once rather than just continue to sit on their hands.
I'm going to welcome the more militant Malcom X approach here. It's 2015. It's been 50 years since desegregation and shit's still fucked up. Time to try something new.
People always freak out about looting. Fuck that. I don't exactly care if a Foot Locker gets raided... Make the insurance companies sweat for once.
SFByou literally just pulled this out of your ass.
Sorry SFB, but I didn't. Though I should have known better than to argue with some kids on ns. "Despite the fact that law enforcement has perpetrated the war on Black America repeatedly, the vast majority of people involved in the many protests did not engage in violence or unruly behavior. Yet, the media played the city up to be a war zone"

Uglyboyrich white kids will never care about anything apart from themselves.
Yeah.. if you want to run with that idea, apply it to the "rich white kids" in the top tier of American society. Do they care about black lives, the poor, the dismantled middle class? Generally, no. I don't understand why so many turn to scrutiny during the protests and focus solely on the negative rather than attempting to empathize with those who are victimized by decades of oppression. Make a change for the better! don't just shit on the very small number of people making carless decisions and completely disregard the rest.

because it's the easiest way to ignore the issue. Oh there's clear racism and the african american community feel victimized by police? Well too bad because 5% of your peaceful protests are rioting. It allows the media to shift focus and create the victim the perpetrator

Yess that's absolutely right. Our entire system has become increasingly narcissistic in that way

Look I agree shits fucked but when you start doing this shit nobody cares why, you're a criminal. Nothing positive comes of this. Who's getting hurt, some firefighter trying to keep his city from burning?
You're mad? Tell us why. Write about it, campaign. The NS demographic votes the least, but we certainly complain about shit.
Setting shit on fire is a good way to get your ass kicked by the police, not enact positive change.
Its a shame the thousands in the streets peacefully are being associated with some thugass kids.
Peace&love
guys calm down it's just a peaceful protest that enacted a week long curfew and dispatched the national guard, this is no different than what happens after sporting events. the media and insensitive white kids are blowing this completely out of proportion.

Reinforcing to our country's police force the notion that young black males are inherently violent and criminal is sure to help slow the cop on black violence issue....
A bunch of young black men went out and did exactly that last night.

In all honesty, I don't want anyone getting hurt for any reason... but with the frequency of bad shit these days... all I can say is, this reaction is hardly a surprise, and people need to take some fucking notice rather than pointing the finger and calling people thugs. I mean, people were bitching last winter about peaceful protests blocking the freeways in Oakland, CA... calling the protesters thugs and shit anyway. Same with the Occupy movements of 2012... It was all just thugs who need to shape up or something, rather than understanding that nobody wants to have to protest...
So in light of that... If they're going to be called thugs by the white conservative media, might as well burn some shit and scare those fuckers, right?
As MLK said 59 years ago...
“I think that we’ve got to see that a riot is the language of the unheard. And, what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the economic plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years.”
Translate that today, and what America has failed to hear is demand for fair treatment and justice for people who have been brutalized by police out of profile rather than character or crime.
Nobody wants to riot. nobody wants to loot. Nobody wants to terrorize... but when society backs them into a corner out of injustice, expect your stuff to burn.

In all honesty, Vancouver rioted way worse over nothing important.

and you are fucking morons if you think this protesting is the right way to go about things. its not even protesting its straight out violence. all it is doing is reaffirming the stereotype that young black males are violent criminals.
Violence isn't looting and shouting and throwing things at cops.
... real violence is shooting someone in the back when they try to run away or not having a clear explanation for why someone's neck was broken when they were taken into custody or punching someone mercilessly on the interstate...
I'm sure all the KFC's are fine and not robbed or smashed up. Hopefully the 7-11's are okay so the EBT cards can still work to buy beer and cigarettes.

i mean i'm pretty sure i saw plenty of the peaceful protesters calling them thugs so i don't know why this falls on the white media portraying them as such
DingoSeanIn all honesty, Vancouver rioted way worse over nothing important.
depends on your definition of way worse i suppose. in the sense of being an unruly drunk crowd maybe so, but i think baltimore had nearly as many structures set on fire as vancouver did cars.

No, people blocking a freeway in Oakland are liberal idiots. Not thugs. I mean seriously? That's your example? Don't post about that, and then MLK in the same context. Ever.

Why not? in many circles even today, MLK would be seen as a 'liberal idiot' if he weren't someone we celebrate in grade school. He's practically become a propaganda piece for many, and it's almost become indoctrinated that we should just sit on our hands and be peaceful and somehow we'll get what we want... both him and Ghandi are celebrated while, in reality, what really got shit done was the fact that attention was brought to the situation out of the massive unrest happening within the larger scheme of their communities... in reality, what MLK did was wrap everything up once those in power were ready to pay attention.
So yes, blocking freeways to get attention is exactly the kinda shit MLK would probably do today.
Hit my sentiments square on the jaw. When all else fails, what do we as humans do? blow shit up. Why? It's not always because we want to... it's sometimes because we have to...

I halfway agree with you in that politely asking (peaceful protests) doesnt work. at least when its the police/government you're protesting against. they're completely ignored.
The problem is that these violent protests turn into a shit show of idiots smashing windows and burning shit for the hell of it. these people are the pieces of shit burden of society types, burning private businesses just makes everyone hate you. Its justifying peoples racism.
Now lets say they violently protest the specific police department thats abusing their power. scare the shit out of them, burn their cars and all that. but dont touch the average joe's stuff. That at least makes sense. its not mindless violence. its protesting the specific problem. not just acting like a bunch of animals for no fucking reason.

What, you think that's not happening?
That's EXACTLY what's happening...
It also happened in Oakland after Oscar Grant...
ferguson after you know what...
Los Angeles in 1992...
It even happened in Watts back in 1965...
and for the Canadians out there... I know you don't want to be left out to dry ;)
