just call them out on it, but purely just state the facts. IE, my shit keeps gertting stolen, theres too much raging going on, I don't want to pay the cable bill, and It's just not working. Basically the key is to just bluntly state the facts, and try top not be standoffish about it.

Sounds like you should live in my condo...My roommates are similar but Im gona give them the boot. I need quite.

Just leave. No one is going to come after you for breaking a lease, or try to find someone I guess to take the room. Ive found the money is not worth the hassle and headache.

Thanks guys, plan on talking with them when the other one gets back from hunting. Door lock is a good idea, will probably run to home depot and take care of that tonight.
As for the cable, it was originally $20 when we moved in, but last month "we" got a larger package. I'll think of it as money for the internet.

ImmasHey NS, how's your day going? Basically, I have roommate problems. I live in an apartment off campus, and have one male, and one female roommate. They used to date, so it's kinda awkward at time, The male will make dinner for my roommate using my food, and leave me empty handed. They frequently throw parties, and allow people to go in my room during said events. One thing that bugs me the most is the cable bill, it sounds stupid, but I don't know how ours works/watch tv, so paying $40 a month for something I don't use kinda bugs me. I've had things stolen from me, or thrown out because "they weren't sure if I was using it." Our lifestyles really don't vibe, but they're nice so I thought I'd be able to last a year in this place. I have no say in basically anything in the house, but the girl and I are really good friends so I kinda ignore it. I'm considering moving out and trying to find a different place. This would require breaking my lease, but would be way better for me mentally. So NS, how do I go about telling my roommates they need to start looking for someone to take my room/tell my friend she's great but I can't live with her?

You need to stand up for yourself. Let them know that this stuff won't fly in the future. Lock your door if you have a lock. Let them know that it isn't cool if people are in your room and if they're going to throw parties, they're responsible for making sure people stay out of there.

Tell them not to take your food. This is a common roomate problem but it's pretty simple to understand. Don't take shit that isn't yours. It's one thing to snag a little butter or some pepper if you guys are all cool with each other. Hell maybe snag a beer or two and then replace them when you go to the grocery store. Straight up stealing peoples food isn't cool.

If they try to make you out to be a dick by bringing it up, it's not you it's them. There wouldn't be any drama if they didn't steal your shit.

Mention that if they aren't sure if you're using something TO MOTHERFUCKING ASK YOU before throwing it out. Better yet don't touch your stuff in general.

As far as the cable thing I'm not sure how that will go but take a stab. Usually that's the kind of thing you get sorted before you move in somewhere not after you've been living there several months. Usually at the start when looking at renting a place people figure out how much the internet and cable costs and split it between people and go from there. If you aren't using it simply because you don't know how, ask the roomate that you like or have a friend over to help you out. Also is you cable and internet bundled? If it is and you're using the internet you're going to have a tough time with that one.

Definitely let them know what's up regardless. IF needed get a mini fridge in your room. I've done it before. Non perishable bullshit just stack on a shelf or in a box. Before that I'd talk to them though. Maybe they're retarded, haven't lived away from home, and still don't understand how to live with other people. At their parents house the fridge magically fills itself, maybe that's what they think happens here.

You don't have to be confrontational to get your point across. (not saying you would be) but I've found most of these things come down to communication. You said yourself they are nice people, I would hazard a guess they don't understand these things bother you the way they do (except eating your groceries, fuck that kid). If they can't do better, tell them you need to go, nothing personal.

Living with people is tough. Can be so fun though.

Talk to them about the parties and food. That's a blatant violation of trust and if they don't recognize that then they're huge assholes As ridiculous as it sounds, chances are they assume you don't care and therefore feel entitled to do shit like that

As for the cable...just start watching more TV. Trying to split bills based on usage is a slippery slope, unless you were clear all along that you didn't want cable because you would never use it and refused to pay for it

I would find a new place ASAP. I mean, sure you can try and reason with them and explain your position, but at the end of the day, its 2 against 1. Sure they might change their behavior for a little bit, but after awhile (or after a few drinks) if one decides they don't give a shit, the other will likely revert too, and then you're back to square one. In my experience, one person isn't going to change the lifestyle or considerate-ness of two people whose habits reinforce each other.

I just had the same problem with my last roommates, spent 6months not able to sleep and being generally miserable because of it. Finally lost it one morning when they were up until 3am raging, and then up again being loud as fuck at 6am, doing lines of blow in the kitchen right outside my room on a fucking Tuesday. I had a job interview in the AM, probably didn't get a call-back because I looked haggard and couldn't think straight from not having slept. I came right home, packed my shit in my truck, and was out of there by nightfall without saying a word to either of them.

My situation might have been a bit easier to gtfo because my cousin had an open room waiting for me right across town, and both of them had their GFs move-in without even asking me (signed a lease for 2 roomies, ended up having 4 by the time I left). They couldn't go after me for 'breaking' the lease because the original agreement was already broken.

Either way though, there's nothing worse than a shitty living situation that is due to circumstances outside your control. Find a new spot, and the overall quality of your life will be so much better. Good luck!

My last roommate smashed his printer and woke everyone up at about 8:00 in the morning, screaming and hollering about how his printer didn't work so he smashed it. Needless to say I called him out on his shit, he kicked me out and called me crazy. Kid is a psychopath. As I am moving my shit out later that day, he calls mommy and daddy and they buy him a new printer. Anyway Brandon if you are out there listening, you suck. (Yea I told him off)

Talk to them Sammi. Bring up the issues you're having. Its not fair that they eat your food and don't replace it, that's not right. Some things you just have to deal with though. I live in a house with seven other people. Im downstairs (3 people) and the upstairs has 5. Downstairs I use the least amount of electricity. I'm constantly turning off lights my other two roommates leave on. One of the two actually leaves the light in his room on almost 24/7 (since he's always at his girlfriends). I still pay an equal share of the electricity bill. Upstairs we have an xbox one that two roommates split the cost of but we all play. Others have bought games that we all play, even me and I havent spent a dime on the system or the games. All 8 of us split the cable bill, though some people use the cable more than others. Its just being part of a roommate.

Its give and take. Living with other people isnt always easy and isnt always equal/fair but you have to make do. Moving out can get complicated but if you really feel like it isn't working then that may be your only option. When you talk to them try not to sound confrontational but be stern when voicing your concerns.

Have you sat them down and talked to them before?

Don't break the lease. You will have roommate problems as long as you have roommates. That's just how it goes. Its been said, talk to them about the food, and ask to see the cable bill to see what you're paying for. That issue will probably not be resolved since its so tricky when it's bundled with internet.

Also, when I first got an apartment my sophomore year of college I bought a doorknob with a lock and key, and I just swapped that out at every apartment I rented. That way when there were ragers or whatever I didn't have to stress if I wasn't there, etc. They are super cheap too. Just put the old one back when you move out. Tough this lease out, then move.

Probably the last advice you want to hear but I've found that these situations are near impossible (I'll never do roommates again and was done with them once I turned 25) and basically if you can't beat them join them.

Realize they won't change and start acting like them and embrace it until you are gone don't clean up after them try to enjoy the socializing and parties. Invite your friends over or leave a lot. And secretly try to GTFO soon as you can. A couple of my apartments I realized how dumb it was to fight the place being a frat house and just tucked into the behavior of beers getting cracked at 9am and avoiding the sink and our dishes completely and just using plastic cups and plates.

I didn't even include talking it out since they're just going to think you're the bitch for even bringing it up. I know those type of people and have dealt with them so unless you're ok with being the asshole it won't work. Just deal and get out. "Talking it out" only creates tension when you're the one that's being used and it will make it worse. If they bring up that you lock your door and food just let them know you aren't their mothers and can't afford to feed them not are you ok with them using your room as a lounge when it's convenient for them.

I was in a similar situation to yours.

My mom would walk in on me masturbating so I just started to leave rotting animal carcasses outside of my door and she eventually stopped coming in. I got used to the putrid smell, and also when i got hungry and wanted a little snack the dead animals are home to some bonus maggots. They are high in protein so they keep you full for a while.

So not at all like your situation actually.

Seems like a chill situation - in comparison to some of the stories I've heard. A lock on your door and a mini fridge in your room would solve your problems. Also, be aggressive about it. Let them know what they are doing is not chill and take your stance. Passive-agressive post-it notes always makes things worse.

Find someone to take your spot and move out. That will take care of your lease agreement. Chances of getting a shitty roommate is very probable... someone else will most likely be moving out for the same reason. So you should look for a vacancy at a friends place.

Talk it out, don't be a douche but don't be a pushover. Say what needs to be said, hear them out, hopefully find some middle ground and then go from there.

You're paying equal rent so you have just as much a right to the place as they do. You don't invite people over to go hang out in there rooms and they should keep people out of yours. You don't throw out their shit, eat their food etc, and they shouldn't fuck with your stuff.

If all else fails, mess up your hair a little bit, get a little drunk, maybe listen to some rage first, creep up next to them while their watching tv with an empty beer bottle, smash said beer bottle over a table and threaten them. You can probably get out of the cable that way. That said you might want to book a vacation offshore just in case.
