I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

So stoked to finally do a rock roll i’ve been eyeing for a while. So much easier than I thought. It really isn’t a very hard rock roll but it just seemed to get into my head and it took me about 2 months to feel up to hitting it.

You realize coffee shop type products are a really high margine right? Not that big of a risk to add it into a business compared to stocking insane bike inventory.

It confuses the customer bcuz it ain’t a full bike shop and it ain’t a full coffe shop and the coffee shop part of it is targeting only a specific demographic. Also u might have ppl buying coffee and then just browsing the bike stuff. So ur gonna have the coffee customer not buying the biking stuff and just looking at it. And the only ppl going there for coffee would be biking interest ppl which is too specific of a demographic. Overall it’s a bad idea

And no, people who want good food and coffee will come here, not solely bikers. I've already had people who don't bike telling us they're going to be regulars just because of our location, vibe, and Italian theme.

I don't even know why I'm responding to you anymore. You're not helping. You're making assumptions about things you have no clue about. You're not even being constructive with your "criticism". Your only attempt at being constructive was based on things you made up in your head. Just because you're confused by a very simple idea, doesn't mean everyone else isn't on board and stoked to have a cool place to hang out, check out bikes, and get good food and drinks. So, I’m going to disagree with this. Full Cycle in Boulder is extremely popular, and offers a tap room in their bike shop. It’s pretty sick, and there’s a few more places like that in Colorado. It’s totally a thing in that state.

It’s kinda like how car dealerships have coffee and free snacks when you come in for service. It would be so nice to just kick back and drink some coffee if you bring in your bike for just a quick job. I think all shops should have like one tech/workstation dedicated for quick jobs so you don’t have to leave your bike and can get back in the saddle quickly

Yep. That's the idea! We'll be giving away coffee/drinks here and there while customers wait/hang out. We'll have a partial repair shop setup for custom builds, quick repairs, etc, and then our more serious/intensive/overnight repair work will be either in our basement (which will have a hangout area/where the speakeasy part comes from), or at our warehouse nearby. Plus, we have a big patio out back with a grill, we just applied for a liquor license, we're getting locally made gelatos and sorbets and other local products, and will be having grab and go lunches for people heading out fishing,biking, for work, etc, for the day.

If you’re in Portland I would recommend blackstrap hill in Falmouth. Got some super short but fun machine built flow. There’s also a pump track in Gorham. And if you can make the drive to Bethel there’s some awesome trails near Sunday river and Mt Abrams actually has a bike park. It’s about 1.5hr from Portland.

Edit, I realize your question was answered, if you're gonna take a trip somewhere I'd honestly recommend driving to north Conway and riding the trails there. It's the closest legit riding. Alternatively you could come ride the shitty xc we have in Cape Elizabeth

I currently have a specialized bighit with a 200mm fork and 26” wheel. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a 27.5” wheel and ~170mm marzocchi bomber z1 fork.


I think the geo would stay about the same, but would this be worth the upgrade? Im trying to make my bighit more of an enduro bike so would this accomplish that? My rear travel is 170mm btw

No. You are better off selling your current bike and buying an enduro. Or just fully spec into dh

my bighit climbs kinda well because the suspension is super progressive. Its just heavy and has little wheels

But you could not spend the money, not upgrade, and use that money you saved to go towards an enduro bike.

When I was 15 I made 2.5k in 1 summer washing dishes.

Little wheels are super fun. Like others have said saving for a more modern bike is probably a better option IMO. You could always get the bomber for now, Ride the big hit until you have the cash for a used 27.5 enduro bike and then put the bomber on that

the bighit is a cool bike and a great novelty but antiquated technology and extremely obsolete in terms of replacement parts and upgrading it would be a waste of money considering the old geo and suspension performance won’t be even 2 leagues below a modern bike


Sell it and buy used. You can get a 2015+ 27.5 aluminum enduro bike for like 1.5k on pb if u look enough. Trust me when I say that ur bighit is a total moneypit

also lol at this I’m 17 and saved up 3k in one summer and bought a brand new enduro bike when I was 14 completely on my own money

have bought a new bike every season since then with no parental assistance

U can do it

64* head angle and 75* seat angle, 460mm reach. Its just fine geo and is super capable. The suspension is a standard 4 bar like a trek but the shock is horizontal not vertical.


Just for clarification i have a 2009 bighit so it is much better than a couple years before when it was a tank

The problem is i am already saving for gas money and car insurance so i can ski this winter. its possible to save 3k on top of that, but i wouldnt be able to buy badly needed tires, brake pads, grips, and knee pads that i currently need

So shockingly enough, hucking an already abused 150mm bike 9' to flat broke it. Chainstay bridge is fully cracked, and the job weld I put on to fix it cracked in 10 minutes. So now I need a new bike, and this is obviously the best place to come for constructive advice on choosing one. I realistically can spend up to 5cad, but the preference is for less. Coming From having ridden mulleted Norco ranges for the past 2 years, and I could pick up a used one and continue the trend, but I'd sorta like to go more freeride oriented, since I'm not racing at all anymore. Frame up build is an option, but I honestly have no idea how easy it is to get a frame these days. Ease of getting the bike is honestly more important than a dream build, since I'm only going to have about two weeks in BC after the tree planting season is done, so kinda need a bike as soon as I'm done work.
