The tall advantage

Is there one to skiing? Being tall? I'm 6'2", and it seems like i'm less balanced then my shorter 5'8" friend. I know being shorter is better because of lower center of gravity or something, but is there anything good to being tall? Extra steeze every inch past 6?


(we all know tall people have to buy tall tees even taller... Don't rub it in)

people overthink the size advantage/disadvantage. i'm 6'3 and i guess its nice to not have to pop quite as hard onto things and i have a decreased risk of nutting, but thats really all. theres lots of great pros who are tall and even more who aren't, its more about coordination, body awareness and balance than any supposed advantage to a lower center of gravity. bobby brown, nick martini, will wesson, liam downey, all those guys are over 6 foot and they rip

I'm 6'5" and an xxl saga jacket is like a normal jacket for me. I also feel like jumps are harder. I can't really spin as fast as I would like to -.-

i've noticed a lot of people talking about people who are 6 foot plus and how that makes them tall but the average male is 6 foot 1 inches so the ones who are <5 foot 10 are pretty much just midgets who may seem normal in the ski world

Not true.

In NZ, average male height is 5'9.5 and in the US it is 5'10. Nowhere in the world has an average height of 6'1.

Ok, here is my adult (I'm 31) look at this...your tall, ladies like a tall guy...I think it has something to do with natural selection/ survival of the fittest. If they destroy you at skiing, at least make up for it in nailing the local freaks that don't really want anything to do with their skinny, pimple faced, lack of manhood ass.

6'2 130lbs checking in...

I hate being so skinny... I eat a lot and since school just started back up I have access to a weight room 3 days a week so hopefully that'll gain me some weight.

I seriously cannot gain weight no matter what I do. I bench press, curl, and do pull ups everyday and I've gotten stronger, I also drink that whey protein shit but I don't gain any fucking weight and it's depressing. I went to make a tramp edit and as I watched the film I realized how awkward I look just standing because I'm so skinny and it's really shitty man. Nobody in my school gives me shit and I have plenty of cool friends/few ladies but after making that tramp edit and seeing me on film haha I'm done with this skinny shit.

Fuck my genes.

bullshit. sorry man but i'm gonna give you some advice, science is science, and you need to eat more, its not your genes.

i used to think like you, then i did the research and realized it wasn't just genes, i needed to eat a shitload more. like 5000-6000 calories a day to gain weight. heres a good start: a gallon of whole milk a day, accompanied by your usual healthy eating. on weekends when you have time to have a good breakfast, have half a potato and like 4-5 eggs with whatever goodness you want to put in your eggs (onion, spinach, green pepper, etc), and on weekdays don't leave your house until you have had at least 3-4 big bowls of cereal. eat, eat, and eat some more then ask for seconds.

also, as far as weight training goes, start doing squats with every workout, its the best exercise there is, as long as your form is good you can really pack on muscle in the right places. i recommend talking to your schools gym teachers or football coaches to get a good routine, because bench, curl and pull ups only sounds like half a workout and only for your upper body.

i can relate, i was a stick (6'3-155) until i was 21, then i decided i was sick of being so small and made a change. it takes WORK to get your necessary calorie intake and commitment in the gym to make sure the weight goes on as muscle mass. i had no idea what it was really like to be full throughout the entire day until i was putting 5000 calories into my body every day, and after a while it felt great. in a 4 month period i went from 155 to 195, my bench and squat both improved by about 40 lbs and i felt great going into the ski season. now i float between 180-190, eat around 3500 calories a day, and feel like i'm where my body should be. you CAN do it, you just need to eat more than you ever thought possible and get a good routine in the gym. i sincerely hope this helps, good luck!

I'm 6 3 165lbs and I don't really have trouble for the most part. I think it's an incorrect correlation of many tall people just naturally being unathletic or unbalanced. If someone is naturally athletic and balanced, they will be good others need to work for balance it's as simple as that. Also, just because someone weighs more or is bigger doesn't mean that they will move faster down the hill, everything falls at the same rate and acceleration. But, obviously some well waxed skis will be faster.

Yeah man I feel the same way. You just look more awkward doing tricks when you're tall and skinny. Plus I fell like spinning is harder when you're tall and skinny.

Being taller isn't much of a disadvantage. Think of Shlopy, Bobby Brown or Tom Wallisch, they're all pretty tall and spin/flip to the future on a daily basis. It all depends on how lean you are. Generally taller people have more space for muscle, because the minimum strength they need to move their bodies is only marginally more than short people. That being said when you are stronger you can set harder, making up for your lack of shortness.

I'm 6'3'' and I weigh around 175-180. I think my shorter friends have an easier time doing things in skiing but otherwise I don't see a disadvantage.
