So I have cancer...

Found out about a month ago that i have stage 3 hodgkin lymphoma, now am stuck at home in nh for the semester (was in utah where they are getting dumped on this year) while I get treatment.

So far I have had only one treatment, but will have them every 2 weeks until July. Pretty bored living at home and wondering if anyone here has had cancer or something that has kept them shut in for a while. Any idea on how to prevent boredom? I have started to cook a lot and thinking about learning a language.

I can't go outside too much or ski and have to avoid crowds because I pretty much no longer have an immune system and therefore can get sick really easy. If I get sick they can't give me chemo until I get better which delays treatment.

any serious ideas that don't involve smoking/drinking would be greatly appreciated

Hi man, really sorry to hear the news. If you like hot sauce pm me your address Ill send over a bottle or two and some stickers, least we can do and if it makes you smile we did more than we could have done else wise. Hope it will help you keep your spirits up since you seemed a little bummed about being back in NH. I know you said you can't be around people, but if your ever around NYC let me know. Ill show you what we do and take you out for a good time on us.

Its a tough pill to swallow. I work doing exercise prescription for women with breast cancer. Because you're stage 3 im a little unfamiliar with the guidelines I don't think I should try and make any suggestions. But what I can tell you is everyone I have worked with appreciates life so much more when the chemo is over and that the treat is tough but it gets better as you get more efficient. Best of luck bud.

I don't know if you're into this stuff but get into Star Wars. Massive universe with shows, movies, games, books etc that are all (mostly) quality. Just something to immerse yourself in and think about, and it's practically endless.

Vibes dude my sister had leukemia a few years ago and had to live in a hospital because of the immune system thing. She did a lot of kniting but if u dont wanna do that learning to widdle things from wood is actually fun but you might cut yourself. Been doing that as a hobbie for years and I hope to be "that old guy" one day

Howdy all, I am doing much better than I was a year ago. Cancer still is not gone, but is moderately stable and I am no longer in chemo as it was shown to be as effective for me (after 12 rounds). Instead I am on a new trial drug which kinda blows(causes my hair to be all patchy, make you gain weight, depression etc). No fun. Either way , I have been living my dreams and moved to Reyjavik for 5 months which has been a blast. Heading back home in a couple weeks for more treatment :(. Thanks for all the support NS you guys are awesome. If you have any questions, don´t be hesitant to ask. I´d rather give you information about cancer and how to catch it early and how treatment feels then act all sensitive about it.

you are an inspiration to me. i have to get a lump in my throat biopseed this week and im freaking out, but whatever happpens know you def an inspiration. keep it up .

Also, if I may ask, I haven't had time to read the full thread so I'm wondering what type of cancer you have and what the early symptoms/how you caught it early were?

Where are you getting treatment out of curiosity?

And I have to ask, what is the easiest way to keep yourself happy?

++KK man. I guess my advice is to eat very healthy foods, lie you said you're starting to cook a lot and thats great. Look around for super foods and check out the Gerson Miracle Diet.

Best thing about living in Iceland is easily the nightlife, beer, and girls. Hottest girls on the planet and are extremely nice and open minded. Weekends in Reykjavik are madness which is something everyone should experience sometime in their life.

Second question I believe is on the first page of the thread.

I get treated a Dartmouth Hitchcock in Hanover NH. Easiest way to keep myself happy is to keep myself busy and around friends. I think running and getting lots of exercise helps me as well. To be brutally honest I am also on antidepressants. Hope that helps!

How did you spot yours? Like what symptoms initially brought you into the doctor and how did the process go from there to arrive at your diagnosis?

I got really sick. I had a slight cough for a few months and didn't really think about it. Then it got really bad to the point I couldn't breathe at times and I had the worst night sweats. When I went to the doctor and they found a big lump on my neck which was remove in a biopsy and confirmed it was cancer. You could feel the tumors on my neck, near my collar bone and under my arm.
