What do your parents think of your skiing?

Park skiing is inherently dangerous. No parent likes to hear of their child hucking himself 50 feet through the air or slamming into pieces of metal, let alone on purpose!

Not just park skiing, there are great risk to ALL kinds of skiing. We read stories on the forums every day. So I am curious what your parents think? Do they support you? Are they too worried to hear a lick of your day at the mtn? Maybe they do it with you!

For me, my mom does not want to hear it. I have no skiers in my family besides myself, and she treats it like the contact sports I play. She will not attend a game or a comp but loves to hear that I am happy and safe doing it

My mom trashtalks me and tells me she was better at skiing than me...until last season she probably was too. I have taken my mom through the park and she cleared a 10 foot table, my dad likes to ski switch on rental skis and say 'see you don't really need twin-tips' my parents are supportive and stoked as long as it doesn't affect my attitude and I don't become part of the nasty side of ski culture.

My parents actually like seeing me taking some risks in my life, they know i'm sensible and that "if I can't I don't push it". They see my videos and pictures and they envy me !

Dad: "Why would you waste all that money to slide down a hill" although he doesn't understand how fun it really is he supports it. Mom hates hearing about what goes on in the park when it comes to other people getting hurt etc. but also very supportive.

theyre cool with it. they support me doing it as long as im wearing a helmet haha! they think a helmet will prevent all injuries

My mom is super supportive but she hates to hear about me crashing or doing big tricks and stuff.
My dad is scared shitless and hates park skiing, it really sucks cause he gets stressed about it.

My mum and dad are also very passionate about skiing, and are quite good skiers for ontario skiers. When we go out west they try and push me and my brother to try and drop cliffs and such often checking the landing for rocks and such.

In reality they love my type of skiing, and are super supportive of my skiing habit.

my parents both ski 60+ days a year. My dad does several backcountry trips every season and my mom helps teach disabled children how to ski. It's definitely something they are very passionate about

When I first got into freeskiing and was riding park most of the time my mum was always worried I'd break something and injure myself. Now 7 years later I almost exclusively ski backcountry and she's scared to death. Last year I've showed her some GoPro footage of me hiking to a famous route on Dachstein glacier, where you've to climb a rope route and afterwards traverse a steep snowfield (see picture right top).

My parents started to worry when i landed my first backflip, before that they thought i only went to the park to watch that i just did a few jumps, but they are supportive my mom and dad both ski so no problem there they just tell me to be carefull

My parents started me skiing when I was 3 and then helped me through racing until I quit then helped me get out on a season in canada.They've always known that skiing is my passion and whilst they worry about me they seem to think I'm careful enough. They think my edits are cool and will watch ski movies with me when I'm home in holidays. So long as I wear a helmet and back protector and educate myself about avalanche safety and don't go too huge in the park they're pretty cool with it.

when I'm in the city , my mother doesn't like to know what I'm doing.

She's not an urban skier but she likes what I'm doing.

My parents think its awesome. My dad was the one who told me to backflip for the first time. The only thing they hate is the baggy clothing :D

Both my parents are big skiers they got me skiing before my 2nd birthday and for as long as I can remember every family holiday has been to somewhere awesome to ski. They don't understand how I could enjoy park skiing more than other kinds but when they see the videos we put out they really like them. It's actually awesome because they are willing to pay for all my ski stuff so I can continue doing the sport my family loves.

my dad has been a skier his whole life, so hes pretty stoked on how stoked i am on skiing. we skied together over spring break, and he wanted follow me through a park lap. dude tries to hit a 35' jump behind me, and i turn around just in time to see him slam on the knuckle, double eject leaving both skis in place, and frontflip / somersault down the landing. it was the first time he had ever felt shinbang in his life, but he said he wants to try again next season.

my mom, on the other hand, isnt a huge fan of park skiing but the only thing she ever says about it is to wear a helmet. she doesnt like the idea of backcountry though. i never tell my mom when im going in the bc because she always gets super worried im going to crack my melon on a tree.

My parents don't really care that much since they have skied pretty much there whole lives. When I first got twintips though my dad realized I was into park and was just like "uhh, don't go off of any of those big jumps ok." I don't think he is really gonna care until I start doing flips and stuff.

Whenever stuff Xgames are on TV though like every 10 minutes he'll just repeat "those guys are insane"

He said it like five times when henrik did his triple lol

My dad likes to join in, and most of the time go harder than me, he's a bit of an adrenaline junkie whish is the complete opposite of my mam who would faint at the thought of some of the things we do :L

My mom flipped out when she saw me do a backflip for the first time, but we are a skiing family so we are basically skiing every weekend... Once they make the connection between my skiing habits and my grades going down the shitter I think they might not be too stoked on me skiing eighty days a season

ever since I began doing more park stuff this year my parents especially hate that I ski so much.. they were fine with it before when I just did all mountain and didn't go as often, but now they don't really support me as much since I want to go everyday and jumps and rails have been added to the mix hahaha

my parents love the fact that i love skiing and freestyle skiing, but for some reason i cant get a fucking trampoline. As if a tramp is any more dangerous than skiing

My dad skis groomers and supports me but my mom doesn't like it very much. Neither if them are too jazzed about park skiing but they don't care enough to not let me ski.

I pretty much have surrounded myself by people with a passion for skiing. Both my parents love skiing and fully support my skiing, even though I rarely get to ski with them anymore.

and I just got off the phone with an old boss whose first question when he answered my call was how many days i got in so he could boast about his 30 days on the slope with his kids.

Both of my parents think Im a full bliwn idiot. Especially after my friend broke a bone on my dryslope last year. My dad is willing to spend 400+ dollars on race skis for me, but I have paid for every piece of gear for park this year.

I'm a mom so I'm not sure I'm allowed to respond, but I support my kid cuz he says he feels more alive when he's on skis than any other time. He's broken his thumb, collarbone & wrist + has had 3 concussions, but he is committed and passionate about skiing, so we support him, even though it's really scarey. I coached college gymnastics and I love to ski. I know there is inherent danger in everything, but you've got to live to the fullest. Shred on!
