What do your parents think of your skiing?

Park skiing is inherently dangerous. No parent likes to hear of their child hucking himself 50 feet through the air or slamming into pieces of metal, let alone on purpose!

Not just park skiing, there are great risk to ALL kinds of skiing. We read stories on the forums every day. So I am curious what your parents think? Do they support you? Are they too worried to hear a lick of your day at the mtn? Maybe they do it with you!

For me, my mom does not want to hear it. I have no skiers in my family besides myself, and she treats it like the contact sports I play. She will not attend a game or a comp but loves to hear that I am happy and safe doing it

right on! yeah I often try to get my dad to hit boxes or little jumps but he doesn't. I got him to air out of a little river bed kind of thing last season and he ate it pretty hard, I kinda felt bad haha. he blamed it on his bindings...

how could life get any more real?! I mean like that's a full body and mind experience, you can't live more real haha...

since I'm not that much of a daredevil and more into rails, my parents don't worry, they even find it awesome to watch it (the pros doing cool stuff, not particularly me haha)

but my dad hates rails "these metal pieces will destroy your bases/edges, no wonder you ruin your skis so fast!!"

but they drive me to the resort, help me get my gear and also like hearing stories about it... after all very cool^^

Haha my parents think everyone in the stept crew are crazy. My grandfather walked in while I was watching weight and said "why the hell would anyone do that?" hahaha

Both parents support but would rather I didnt ski park. My dad says no inverts but you can spin as much as you want. Hahaha

I remember begging my parents to let me do a backflip just after I turned 12... needless to say it took a while to convince them it would be alright. Since then it's been chill, but I honestly would be pretty worried about my kid doing that o_o

parents are cool with me skiing park but there nervous about jumps and rails, they take me out west once a year and buy me all my gear, and my dad skis with me and my bro out west. mom likes to ski the groomers

My dad got me into it and encourages everything that I do in and out of the park. He was even proud that I went skiing with a fractured elbow.

my dad hate it and my mom loves it. My dad doesnt understand it which is y i dont think he likes it. He gets pissed if i do any thing too dangerous, which to him is a 3, or a helicopter. My mom thinks its cool and doesnt get it but because i love it, shes down

Me eating shit~ YEAHHH!!!!! he isnt laughing at me falling but he is laughing at me doing exactly what he said wrecking. so yeah my dad is stoked about it. my mom not so much. but they hate me wearing anything that isnt 3times smaller than my size. :P

My mom is pretty supportive but worries, my dad loves the fact that im skiing just hates park skiing and urban skiing. He still buys my shit and everything but hates the whole gangster style ofpark skiing haha

Both my parents ski though

My dad is sponsored by G3 and shreds telemark in the backcountry. He loves talking about what i do in the park and has even hit the small rails in the mini park on tele's. my mom is not as stoked

My dad completely gave up after a whole trip got ruined because of him being disorganized and going on about how nothing works, this was only a few days ago. The only thing I can rely on for skiing is my mom, who loves skiing, but has a knee issue so it's difficult for her to ski. Until I can drive, skiing pretty much went down the hole for me, except for skiing around my home.

my dad was really supportive of my racing, and he still is, he just doesn't know as much about park. he's got a guiding service and avi course school, so he's training me up in avi stuff and taking me on some backcountry stuff in utah this month, psyched. fully supportive, my mom just doesn't know anything about it (shes a cop from alabama)

My parents love that im skiing because i have been since i was 4... but they dont like how some park ratz act and think the clothing is stupid... but they get stoked on the tricks if im safe.

I called mum while skiing the other day on handsfree and did a jump line, she was a little worried as I told her I was flying through the air spinning and asked me to stop.

I haven't lived with my parents for over 10 years but my mom still worries when I go skiing and always says "be careful" every time I speak to her. My dad used to race motorbikes and has broken almost every bone in his body so he thinks skiing is pretty tame and therefore couldn't give a fuck.

Once when I was younger, i hit a big park jump and flailed around in the air while screaming while my mother below almost had a fucking heart attack... When I landed and started laughing she skied over and proceeded to beat me with her pole.

I thought my parents were supportive of my skiing but now i guess i need to learn how to balance more than one thing in my life..so theyre making me do the school musical thats 5 days a week and takes up 90% of my ski season. So compared to going out 30 or 40 days this season i'll be lucky to make it out 15 times. Im fucking pissed.

I play in the pit for my schools (saxophone), its not that big of a deal for skiing. Its only on weekdays except for the show. All in all 1 weekend missed = not that bad.

My parents are pretty chill, they got me skiing, but they hatewhen I get injured.

My parents will come up with every excuse on why I shouldn't go skiing that day to keep me from going and then my dad jumps in last minute with a "besides you have to do this instead." I try to leave the house early in the morning before he gets up because he doesn't want me to go skiing. My mom is better though. My brother is a swimmer so my dad loves what he does, but my dad wants me to do whatever sport he wanted me to do and if it isn't that sport that he has I'm going to make this difficult for you. Like today. I know the roads are icy, but he's trying to come up with thousands excuses as I'm typing this on why I should him he can't go. When I do go he always tries to pull the just have fun speech before I leave to waste my time and then pull out the old you have to be home in two hours thing. I call my mom and then I stay out all day. Thanks mom. Sorry for the sob story.

Think its a waste of money and my time. my mom hates snow, my dad rips it up with me one weekend a year so he's pretty supportive. i'm on my own with every purchase of gear and passes but that's nothing to complain about i respect it.

All i really want to do after college is take a year off or just ski bum it hard, but nope, thats a bad decision. i need to get a respectable job and pay off my loans and become another sheep in the herd of society.
