Speeding

Was driving back from my cottage on the highway, and got pulled over for doing 157km/h in a posted 100km/h zone. In Ontario the law states that anything over 50km/h is considered 'stunt driving' and results in an automatic car impound and license suspension. Being that I'm only 17 with my G2, I'm facing a $2000-10000 fine, year license suspension, and a insurance raping.

Has anyone else ever been caught at 50+, if so what is your insurance like right now? Safe to say I'll be walking everywhere from now on.

i'm too lazy to do the conversions, but i got pulled over for doing 145 mph in a 55 mph zone. be glad that all you received was a speeding ticket, license suspension, and an impound. i received a complementary ass whooping and a free ride to jail....plus the suspension (sorta) & fines.

Haha I've fucked around before going those kind of speeds but these are the kinds of stories that will make me drive like a fucking girl next time I get my license. I'm only 17 so I'm pretty sure I'm safe for the jail sentence but as I'm going to university next year I don't have a ton of money to toss around

yeah, the cops beat my fucking ass. my mouth may have had something to do with that though. his attitude sucked and i figured i'd let him know.

i didn't really have a jail sentence...just a few days in the slammer until i could see a judge and get bailed out. that shit was expensive though. 4k just to get out of jail plus another few thousand in fines.
had i been in a familiar state, i totally would have run. no way they would have ever caught me. it took several minutes from the time i saw him in my mirror and pulled over until he actually pulled in behind me on the side of the road....and then the fun began.

no, it is. Just not when you're in a car that has a number on it that grants the police access to all your information.


Truth is, had you run, they probably wouldn't have even tried chasing you. Most departments don't do pursuits simply because they're too dangerous for everyone involved.


my only advice is drive safe. I don't care if you speed and kill yourself, just don't harm anyone else.

Speeding when there are cops about is stupid. I drive highway 11 (almost anyone from Ontario knows what road that is) but the north end of it all the time. I know the speed traps, and if I get bored and want to go 160 then I wait till the straightaway before my overpass. Mostly I just do that when its like 1:00 AM.

Dude, just go defend yourself in court. If you parents are letting you drive the Audi I'm sure they will give you a lawyer. If not, just explain that you did not intend to "stunt drive" and you were simply being negligent of your vehicles speed while passing someone (or something like that). Be easy about it, realize that you made a shitty mistake and admit it, you could get off the hook.

My older brother got booked for speeding, drunk driving and possession of weed all at once. He was facing some serious shit, but he researched online and defended himself in court and only ended up with community service and a misdemeanor, instead of criminal charges (which would have been an awful hassle).

they would have to get those numbers to be able to use them and at 145 mph in the middle of the night, i guarantee that they didn't get my plate number until he pulled in behind my stopped car on the side of the road. whatever though. i was in an unfamiliar area and i didn't run, so it's all speculation anyway.

and for the record, it was on an interstate highway with zero cross traffic and absolutely no one on the road, so even though it was fast, it wasn't really reckless. solid advice though.

i don't think so... 157k is not that fast at all.. its like 80-90.... its just stupid to go that fast when its not on a legal road. like i just did on the autobahn.

i have a friend that races flat track and he's nasty at it. so when he got pulled over for doing 140 on the highway. he had no idea he was speeding. (there were no other cars on the highway) and he told the cop he thought he was going with traffic... once he said he races motorcycles the cop saw his official card in his wallet and let him off with a warning. pretty sick if u ask me

I got pulled over doing 86mph in a 40mph zone.
I talked to the cop and said I was coming home from work blah blah blah. Didn't suck up like a bitch, just was respectful.
I ended up with only a $90 fine and no points on my license. He could have towed me on the spot, taken me to jail and charged with $700 in fines.

I am thankful.

I remember a while ago me and a friend went to Berlin for a weekend.
He took his dad's car an Alpina B5 (Tuned BMW M5 with no limiter.)

Being childish we constantly gunned it down the Autobahn at speeds up to 310km/h
Being idiots we never noticed we entered a section that wasn't de-restricted but instead had a limit of just 130km/h.

We got pulled over by a cop on a bike.
We were scared considering he clocked us at 170km/h over the limit.

After explaining we didn't know because we were foreign etc.. he acted really chill and just gave us a formal warning.

God we were lucky.

I got stopped a few years back doing 46km/hr over in a speed zone on the highway.  I was polite and I accepted the fact that I was going too fast.  I figured that since I hadn't been caught speeding in almost 10 years, and had put a lot of miles on the road, I kinda owed them this one.

He could have been a dick and given me all kinds of excessive speeding fines.  But since I was polite I drove away with only a $196 "Speed against a highway sign" ticket.  No excessive, no reckless driving, nothing extra.

And in BC if you pay your fine within 30 days, you get $25 off your fine.  Which I did.

I got pulled over doing 82mph in a 65mph zone, just got a ticket for "failure to obey traffic signs."

I was fucking lucky, 50 bucks less and no points on the license.

I'm not sure about the justice system in Canada but you can always look into hiring a traffic lawyer. I'm glad I did, and I had a great experience. I have a review at the bottom of me thread:
