Camp Of Champions Disrespect.

so, i dont know if anybody caught it, unfortunatly i just got to a computer and they deleted it. but, the Camp of Champions facebook page posted a picture of a kids (fake) pass (uncensored with picture and full name).... the caption basically said "poachers get passes pulled and will get hot listed. #thanksforcomingout "

it blew up on facebook getting about 70 people commenting about how COC handled this. personally i thought it was brutal. i dont know what they were thinking, but it made them look incredibly un-professional.

earlier today, they also posted a picture of momentum's lift line with the caption "Momentum's lift line is pretty crazy today. #wheresyourhotlapnow" this image didn't blow up. however, I found that was quite childish and apperantly alot of people did too. there were about 60 people saying about how they arent going to go to COC and they would rather go to windells. but that really isnt a big deal.

What do you expect when the poachers have such a tough life that they HAVE to ski public parks all summer? Skiing during the summer is the definition of being poor and underprivileged...

Good. I think its great what they did. It tells people not to poach unless they want to look like a total ass on full blast.

I'm going to say this for the 3rd time: fuck the poachers. How can you even defend them? Maybe instead of putting the photo on the internet, they should have put it in the judge's hand after they called the police and had them arrested.

Fuck the poachers.

You know running one of the biggest camps around isn't free, right? It's not like they're pocketing $2000 of profit per camper. It's fucking expensive to host a park on a glacier, provide housing and food for campers, pay all of the staff's wages, etc. Sure they're still obviously making some profit (and probably a decent one), but camps rack up a lot of costs.

As somebody else pointed out, this isn't just about missing out on making money for them either. The liability issue is a serious consideration for them. I'm not sure about Canada, but I know in the US somebody who got hurt would have no problem suing a camp for a shit ton of money despite the fact that it should be the poacher's fault.

And yes they are making money off people wanting to ski. Skiing isn't something you are automatically entitled to. It is a sport for people who have money to spare. I don't care if you earn that money yourself through hard work, you still have enough money in the first place/are making enough to be able to save for unnecessary things like skiing. That's how it always is, get over it. You don't have enough money for camp, you don't get to enjoy camp. It sucks but that's how everything in life works.

I can understand that they (COC) dont feel good about that but as a company, i dont think you can make a statement like that. It dosent show their professionalism.

For god's sake, we're skiers, not professionals. Should they also punish kids for swearing because it's not professional? Shouk they not take pictures because it promotes dangerous tricks in the park?

Just isn't much better to respond to immature behavior with your own immature actions. If ^this story you included was made public the first time around, everyone would be on your side. Of course poaching is bullshit, but your response blurred the lines in dividing who was speaking on behalf of a company and who was an ignorant ass kid.

i understand what you mean, i just think that a company like COC, who is dealing with skiers but also with parents, should act professionally to have a good image to both skier and parents. Skiers understand what the skiing industry is but the companies dont only deal with skiers. Thats why, IMO they should act with a lot of professionalism (like any other company).

I support thieves. I know this might be a crazy concept to some of you middle class white kids out there, but some people can't afford $25000 for a decent car? This is the biggest scam of all time, but they can charge that much because anyone who drives probably has (parents have) money anyway because it is so expensive. There should be a mass organized raiding one day of Ford, Chrystler, and GM. I can hear peoples responses now "Oh no man, you can get a job and pay like the rest of us, they are doing a service to the general population." Naw man they are making money off your obsession to fucking get around faster.

Maybe you should read up before you hate on a camp that gave a kid a little bit of public embarrassment instead of costing him thousands of dollars in fines and a mark on his criminal record for theft of services...

You call it acting immature, everyone else that has a brain calls it doing that dumb ass kid a favor.

I agree with you, you have to pay to use a private park.

Can't afford it? You don't get to go in, like anything in life.

My issue is with the way they behaved. Putting the picture of a child on the internet with a gloating caption is incredibly unprofessional. And on the same day that the had mocked Momentum's lift line in a similarly unprofessional way.

If I were an investor, my train of thought now would be that CoC is run by incredibly immature/ incompetent individuals.

They really did themselves a disservice here.

My thought would be CoC got a liability off of the mountain and hopefully they did it in a public enough manner that it will discourage other poachers from coming and trying the same shit

Public humiliation is pretty common in the real world. There are a lot of places that will post pics of shoplifters, fake ID's, etc. It's pretty good incentive for people to stop breaking the rules.

They also stated in their other post that they had to ask this kid (I wouldn't call him a 'child') to leave the park multiple times. Getting your pass posted for poaching once would be harsh, but it sounds like this kid was asking for it.

And businesses badmouth each other, it's competition. Just look at those Apple vs PC ads from a while ago.

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding where CoC acted SO unprofessionally. Kid repeatedly broke the rules, he gets openly humiliated for his actions. Fitting punishment.

I mean, It's the kids fault because he didn't know/think that he was seriously threatening COC as a business because of the ramifications that could result from an insurance incident. I get that. In fact, posting that on FB was a good way to let potential poachers know that faking a pass does not work.

It's just really disappointing and disgusting to see such behavior come from a business that supports and facilitates a sport that's all about having fun, celebrating a common passion, and just plain loving to ski.

Poachers know the risks. This is just like back in the day when heads were put on spikes to scare off the rest.

Funny how we have to keep campers from both camps from poaching public before it opens. I've seen coc kids waiting at the rope line because they're camp is already over-ridden,  momentum groups running lessons cause our jibs are better.

Secondly, you have no clue what you're talking about. A public listing is one of a large number of ways of raising capital. Camp of Champions is nowhere near large enough to warrant a public offering, so even to suggest that makes you sound ridiculous and incompetent. I imagine that the value of CoC is a small fraction of the minute-change on a large company.

A question for you, then. The first Camp of Champions. How did the founder buy all the features, pay the rental on the hill, pay for helicopters, Cats, the wages of the coaches and diggers? Money tree? Thin air? Ponder that for a moment.

pretty sure the first COC sessions didn't have massive rail features or helis...
- diggers for the most part are not paid staff (correct me if im wrong)
- bank financing
- government grants
- $1500 per camper per week

when these camps were fresh start ups, they were a mere shadow of what they are today. back then people were stoked just to be out riding in the summer and even more stoked that there were a couple of jumps and maybe a rail that was more than likely rented from Whistler. since then, camps have evolved into what they are today.
