people who don't have weapons
people who are running
tracking down hiding people
All I'm saying is when someone has a gun drawn and a finger on the trigger YOU DO NOT TURN AROUND TO TAKE A SWING AT THEM WITH A PIPE BENDER UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SHOT.
The responses are cracking me up though, I must say. The thing you're looking past is that these cops have been called to an armed robbery expecting the worst so their adrenaline is through the roof. Sure the guy could have let the dog go, but when he turns around to swing at the cop, you've got to understand that letting the dog takes time (probably around 2 seconds which is an eternity in a conflict) and the guy could easily have hit the cop by the time the dog jumped on him. Could he have done it? Sure. But now you have a struggle with 1 potentially injured cop and one with a leash in one hand and gun in the other against an armed violent criminal (possibly with more than just a pipe bender) and perhaps his assailant will come from behind with another weapon whlile you attempt to subdue the guy who barely blinked when you pepper sprayed him. This is all shit that people overlook, and instead choose to see some FUCK DA POLICE shit.
If that's how you want to gamble, good for you. You're a better person than I am and imo care way too much what reasoning shitbags might have to want to kill you or bash your face in to keep the $60 from the register.
I don't expect any of you to agree with me, but you're looking right by a lot of important details of engagement in this situation. Hidden dangers are EVERYWHERE when some shit like this goes down and erring on the side of the safety of our public servants is cool with me. Wanna attack cops with a weapon during your armed robbery? You're going to get fuckin shot. End of story.
No, that's why I'll never be shot during an armed robbery.
If you've ever taken the most basic of firearms courses- which I'm fairly certain you haven't- you'd understand that someone with a weapon in their hands WILL KILL YOU before you have time to do anything that requires real thought and action. If you have your gun drawn, you should absolutely shoot them before it turns into a struggle in which they could pull out another unseen weapon, get your gun, be joined by backup, etc.
This is why your vitriol does nothing to me. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, you're just spouting off your usual "Fuck 'Merica" bullshit again and waving around your idealism like it matters what you or I think. You have no experience, you have no training, no tactical knowledge whatsoever and you never have or will be in a situation even close to something as tense and charged as this and your armchair QBing is super judgemental for someone who has yet to identify their complete lack of situational understanding of the total dynamic picture here.
Hate on if you want, I'm just saying you seem to be looking past some very important details and dangers inherent with this situation and your judgement of the officers is subsequently very skewed. Carry on.
Def could have been handled better by all parties but really can't fault the cop for shooting him. Think about it- to wrestle this guy down they would have had to let the dog go and holster the weapon first. By the time the dog is released and gets there, cop #1 has a pipe bender in his frontal lobe. Now it's 1-on-1 plus dog and an officer down medical emergency, with possible bad guy backup right behind you. You just never know when shit like this happens and to the average person this stuff isn't even a factor of consideration so of course it looks worse than it is. If they had backup it would have ended differently, but two men in a largely unknown and dangerous situation with armed violent criminals will always act on the side of self-preservation. It's just the way it is.
There's just so many things we don't know and they would have no idea about entering the situation, that's really all I'm getting at. Some people like Mike-O will just always know best no matter what the situation and just continually strive for armchair QB league MVP status so you really can't even take their hateathons seriously, or at least take offense to, which I don't.
No I'm saying it wasn't done in this case because when somebody cocks back a weapon to swing, you have <1 second to react and save your partner. Your gun is already drawn, the logical yet unfortunate choice is to shoot. It totally blows, but when a second is more than you have shit is going to go down.
Letting the dog go takes seconds more than you probably have, unfortunately. Also, you generally won't see a dog sent after someone who has a weapon, just like you won't usually see a cop run in and tackle him while the criminal has one. Also, "why is he holding his gun like that?"... Uh, dude... When was the last time you fired a gun while holdng a dog going apeshit with your other hand? Yeah me neither.
And Mike-O... I'm a little surprised someone tactically trained would see a man with his hands full and think he should just drop the gun and tackle the guy swinging the weapon. Good for you for providing service to your country, but how you can look past these details completely I have no idea. Oh well.
And to those who are talking shit about my feelings about my friend's father being a cop who was MURDERED ON DUTY... It doesn't make me unequivocably side with cops, it just makes me have a little more respect for the gravity of ANY situation they could find themselves in on a daily basis. I've seen firsthand the pain and loss that not being overly cautious in a potentially dangerous situation can cause. I'd give anything to have my friend's dad back and have the piece of shit who killed him for showing up to work pushing up daisies instead, and I sincerely hope none of you know what that is about. I don't blame you for wishing it ended differently and I agree wholeheartedly.
Anyways, hate on. Much love back at ya's, I gotta get some shit done... With a pipe bender actually lol...
No this is just your Modus Operandi. I dont hate you for it, actually I kinda like you because I could argue with you all day if I was bored enough. You're a chronic ball buster who's stuborn as fuck and I like those kinds of people on occasion. It makes things interesting.
Your use of insults and hateful words could use some more creativity imo, but for the most part you care, and I can tell... Which is more than I can say objectively for some of the trolls around here who are just trolling to troll.
It's ok, I like to argue my point like a child sometimes too.
Well what's he supposed to do with it? Holstering it will take 2-3 seconds in a non-stressed environment without holding a dog back simultaneously. You know that. To take charge and overpower this guy like you are all suggesting is basically saying he would have to literally throw it down and snap into action to intercept that swing. Letting the dog go would also take time you don't have as your wrist is wrapped up pretty good when a dog is freaking out like it's trained to.
I'm trying to play devil's advocate here, but both men have things in their hands that require holstering to engage safely, and letting a dog go does take more than a second or two when you're holding it back so hard. Once guns are out, this pretty much isn't an option is what I'm getting at. It sucks but it's the situation that unfolded.
Anyways, I've really got to go. Spent waaaaay too much time trying to clarify shit for people who are going out of their way to not get it. If you can't step outside your argument to assess it's objectivity based on new considerations, you aren't woth my time. Not you specifically but some in this thread certainly.
I feel at this time that this is most likely the best course of action ;)
I'll make it all in pictures and symbols next time so functionally illiterate jackass fucktards like yourself don't get lost.
Sorry about that.
