Summer Adventure Jobs

Hey I am sick of getting paid barely anything to be a lifeguard, which is a boring, unsatisfying summer job.
Do any of you have adventurous, hard working summer jobs?

For example, between my dads first and second years at university he worked on an oil rig.

Guard on tahoe. I did it for a while and it led to bigger and better. But there girls all over and yeah, its lake fucking tahoe. come May check out Hansen property maintinence in Tahoe city, they have a couple properties to guard on. Im not ocming back so i know they will be hurting for people who arent retarded.

The fuck? How do you get paid to be a lifeguard? I know in my city it's $18 at one pool and $23 at the other.

Yeah, Canada is different. Having gone to school up here and hearing about how much everyone else makes, I really want to get a different job. I only get paid $9.50 at my lifeguarding job in Pennsylvania after doing it for three summers. Granted, I only work a quarter of the time. I am sick of working with kids who complain about "working" when in reality we just sit around all day.


I want a job doing something where I work with people who work hard, is somewhere in the outdoors, and gets paid more than $9.50 an hour.

That's a bummer. You'd think with all the training and courses you'd get paid more.

Anyways, try landscaping or graden work. Try the parks department and work for the city.

Get certified by the american red cross. I started as a lifeguard and then got paid to ride jet skis on tahoe for a couple years, then onto a parasail boat then onto a pier with a bar on it with girls that came in on boats and stayed for breakfast. In a couple weeks ill be in mexico training a new boat crew in parasail. Lifeguarding led me on a good summer path but its pretty boring at the basic level.

I had a job filling in groundhog holes two summers back. All I did all day was dig dirt, dig holes, I got to wear a sweet tan jumpsuit and timberlands everyday. Basically got to work at 7 by 7 30 we were in our jumpsuits and boots and gloves shovels in hand and we would drive to fields and start working take an hour lunch go back out until about 4. AMazing amazing job. outside all day long with a great group of guys it was unsupervised so we would bring joints and blunts, it was an amazing job I absolutely loved it. And i got really really tone as well i'd usually take off the top of my jumpsuit, like roll it down and got a bitchin tan.

This last summer I wanted a summer job so I could ski during the winter and the only job I could find was pollinating corn. I had to work six weeks straight, everyday...it sucked. On top of that, we had to wear all this safety clothing (long sleeve shirt, hat, sunglasses, jeans, etc.) and it would suck on 90 degree days. I would not recommend it to anyone, ever. Unless you think wondering around in a cornfield all day is adventurous, then go for it. Although, I made a decent amount of money it was somewhat worth it, I just don't eat corn as much as I used to.

You could try to get a job at a golf course? I have some friends that work at golf courses over the summer and they didn't seem to mind it. Except I don't think it would be much of an "Adventure Job"

Try getting a job at a ropes course or something. I work at one in the summer, its fun, you get to work with people, and im fine with making 10$ an hour while doing it.

ignore all other suggestions if you can and go TREE PLANTING. Outdoors? Check (so outdoors you're hours from civilization for the majority of your time). Hardworking job surrounded by other hardworking people? Check. Well paying? Check, the harder you work, the more you get paid, the freaking greatest. You mentioned you go to school in Canada, so it might make it a lot easier for you to get on with a company - i dont know the tree planting situation in the states, i think its done a bit differently. Anyways, go to replant.ca for like everything you'll ever need to know about this job. Greatest adventure of my life.

some friends of mine worked in norway (i am from austria, btw) for a company who helps securing roads and towns and stuff by building fences and stuff against avalanches. they were outdoors the whole day in steep terrain and build that shit with their bare hands because you cant bring big machines there.

idk, sounds in some way like what you want. a lot of companies should work in that area

You could go work the oil fields in ND, they're hiring for pretty much every position I think. Last time I checked, a general laborer started at $18/hr with 50-90 hours a week.

People will make fun of me for this....but

come do a season in NZ or Aus! The snow isn't the best (but i actually think this upcoming season should be good, La Nina our end and all...It's been raining all summer and actually snowed in December [middle of summer!!] in Aus!!) but it's such good fun. Perisher have a pretty good park set up and the resort is pretty huge. 50 lifts. Or head to NZ, been there heaps, never skied but always hear good things!! Skiing all year round is epiiiiic.

I was looking into it as an operator but i hear there is nowhere to live. And the places that are for rent our Outragously expensive.plus its fuckign north dakota. though 150G's sounds pretty good right now.

in america you only have to take 1 'lifeguarding course' and then you're certified. whereas in canada you have to complete blue cross swimming levels 1 - 13 (for me that was maaaaad summers of swimming lessons swimming in cold ass lake superior) and then bronze cross, bronze medallion, and one other course, and once you've passed that THEN you can take NLS which if you pass you can officially lifeguard.

you can come help me run coke across the mexican border this summer. you get 50 bucks a kilo you get across. Its a hell of an adventure. this on time we were haluing thourgh the desert off road at like 60 mph and the DEA got on our ass so my buddy handed me a mac 10 and i just started poppin caps back at this DEA jeep.

Run a moonshine distillery with me in the forest. Its $100 A gallon and you get to be on the discovery channel. We get drunk all day and do things that wouldn't make sense to anyone with an IQ higher then 73.4 We also shoot at random things

I havent distilled but i fermented 4 gallons of apple juice a lil while ago.

4 gallons Apple juice
10cups sugar
Wine Yeast
5 Gallon Jug (water cooler thing)
an air lock + seal


$30 and 2 months later I had 4.5 gallons of some HARD shit. Tastes like its between wine and liquor, doesnt taste very good but everyone loves it, gives you a great buzz like drunk

Mix sugar with small amount of water till you have a syrup made pour all the juice into 5 gallon container
mix the sugar water/syrup in with the juice
activate the yeast with warm water
pour yeast into 5 gallon container
put seal on top of container and the airlock on that
wait till the airlock stops bubbling totally


(use a tube of some kind to put the "cider" into the 4 empty gallon jugs you should have left from the apple juice. Using a tube will keep the gross shit at the bottom)
