If you run XC plz post anything in here. Times, tips, team results, anything.

My PR as a freshman was a 19:30, first race of sophmore season tomorrow morning.

I'll start by asking what are your guys tips for pre-race jitters.

PHRESHMAN IN WHAT? HIGHSCHOOL OR COLLEGE?
AND WHAT DISTANCE?

MY TEAM LOST PROVINCIALS LAST YEAR BY 3 PTS. MADE ME SAD. AND THIS YEAR OUR 2 FIRST RUNNERS ARE INJURED FOR A WHILE. NOT LOOKIN GOOD.

To deal with jitters, either stop drinking long enough before the race, or, as any good alcoholic would know, drink more. In your case it doesn't sound like stopping drinking for a day is possible, so I would recommend a few shots of Jack Daniels about 10 minutes before the race.

I used to be in XC, but now I'm way to out of shape. And one tip: don't eat an assload of chokecherries before you run. Shitty as hell.

And in high school. 19:30 wouldn't get you in the door in a college program.

And in NJ xc is a 5k

This is my last XC season of high school. My best year was my Freshman year, the girls and boys team both made it to state. My PR is around 16:30 for a 4k. I wish i would have ran more over the summer though.

Yeah for the girls. I know in some states the girls run 5k's too.

I'm a freshman running xc at UBC. I'm more of a track guy and I've always gotten injured in cross so I don't have any PBs to post.

Pre-race jitters get a little better with experience and familiarity with the start line. Just remember that it's XC so your start doesn't really matter and that pretty much everyone's as nervous as you. Also when you develop a pre-race routine things get a lot easier mentally.

Good luck and remember that no one gives a fuck about how badly you place in sophomore year.

AND FOR MY ADVICE ON THE PRERACE JITTERS:

I DON T REALLY GET THEM, I JUST ASSUME IM GOING TO DO WELL BECAUSE I HAVE A GOOD TEAM WITH ME. AND IF I HAVE A CERTAIN PLACE I WANT THEN I ALMOST ALWAYS GET TO IT BY TAKING PEOPLE 1 AT A TIME. JUST TELL YOURSELF YOU'LL MEET YOUR GOAL, AND THEN DONT LET ANYBODY STOP YOU FROM DOING IT.

I've ran a couple 5k's and can consistently get 19:00. There's always been people better than me, so I've never really been nervous I just run it like it's a practice. Just don't worry about your place so much, just focus on achieving a time goal you can achieve in practice. If somebody else in a race can get 16:00, good for them, worry about yourself.

I DUNNO THATS LIKE THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT I'D SAY.

IMO RUNNING IS NO FUN. I ONLY DO IT CAUSE IM GOOD AT IT. 90% CAUSE I LIKE TO WIN SHIT AND 10% CAUSE THERES A LOT OF HOT GIRLS THAT RUN XC.

IM NOT ALL ABOUT WINNING THOUGH, I SKI ALMOST EVERY DAY BUT IM NOT THAT GREAT AT SKIING, I CAN'T EVEN BACKIE. BUT I THINK ITS FUN AS FUCK

I ran xc in high school and I'm only a freshman in college, but i already miss it so much. theres just nothing compared to the thrill of a great race. my pr was 17:30, i was decent. i really want to start running again

Running is great man. I'm not very good at it not really a natural born runner but IMO 19:00 is good, but shorter distances are more my thing maybe 1k, mile. If somebody is able to run 16:00, no matter how good I run that day I'm not going to come first so placements don't bother me. I ran a race with some skinny Ethiopian man who ran around a 13:30 5k, what the hell am I supposed to do about that? Running is just something to do to have a little but of fun and stay in shape.

my best 5k was a 19:30, my best 800 was a 2:08 i was never headed to state or anything but i had fun with it and it kept me in shape and feelin good

Wayzata mens xc- 7th in the nation woo!

anyway, i'm out this season due to patella femoral pain syndrome which has plagued me for the past two years, decided to let it rest this year and focus more on getting healthy and cross training/ not over stressing it. I don't even know my pr for 4k, my miles like 6:40 though

I'm running XC for my second year, honestly don't remember my PR from last season but my best mile time last year as a freshman was 4:39. Is anyone here gonna be at the Manhattan Invitational this year? Especially all you East Coaster if you are PM me or something if your going it'd be pretty sick to see some NSers there. And my varsity team last year lost states by 1 point when going to 6th runner because of tied score, at freshman states our freshman claimed 3rd in the state, and during outdoor track I came in 7th in the state for the 1500 thats my biggest accomplishment.

Nike is of course the standard. But Asics and Brooks are also pretty popular up by me.

i ran an 18:46. and i ran with some team over the summer and their coach said there's no way i could run that i seemed too fast for that.. so i guess ill see.. next race is the 23rd

Ahh yes I used to run back in the day. 21:17 for 6.3km at provs in HS (fairly flat course) and 28:02 for 8.3km for my short university career of 3 races....

The waffle is definitely a good shoe. I have a pair of brooks mach 12 and a pair of Nike victory zoom xc.
Love em both. Price, and versatility wise, the brooks are a great choice. Especially for somebody who doesn't need the "lightest" shoe out there.

yeah im around the same as you, 18:45 for a super hilly 5k ( i havent ran a track one yet), im not that fast but im better at mid distance. Im trying to break 5 this season for the mile

hm well how many kids are in your school/ on your team? my school has like 1000 kids and about 35-40 kids on the team, and we're considered a large school there. Its a 5k, last year it was a really sick race, theres a good vibe there

Saucony Shay's are by far the best spikes ive even worn. Also pr'd saturday with a 19:20 and again today with a 18:50 looking to break 18 by the end of the year.

WELL OUR SCHOOL HAS AROUND 1000 KIDS ALSO, BUT OUR ENTIRE TEAM HAS AROUND 95 KIDS.
WE'RE ONLY BRINGING AROUND 20 TO THIS MEET THOUGH.

Sophomore year i was fourth on a team likely to win states but got two stress fractures in my back.
Now im a junior and im captain of the team and i finally started to race but now im out for the rest of the season with more stress fractures but in my shins my PR is 17:09

you may be in our race, theres a good chance. Its pretty flat, but its also confusing as fuck because it does alot of loopy shenanigans around the park. Last year we won , hopefully we can again as long as we keep the late night hotel antics down. Thatd be sick if we saw another nser there
