partyandBSWhat sort of doors are opened to those with a PhD in Literature Theory? Seems like a limited field but I have zero exposure to it as I can barely read 😆
Young_pattyAppreciate the advice y’all. I definitely get where y’all are coming from, I don’t actually have a plan set in stone yet but I’ve been thinking a masters would be cool to do.
Originally I wanted to make a plan for getting a PHD in Literature Theory… but when I told my skate buddies my plan one of them told me his moms been doing a PHD in the same field for the past 10 years… so I think I’ll definitely go into this with baby steps haha.
CoolChillGuy420FUCK utah legislature all my homies HATE utah legislature.

r00kieTravelled for a wedding a few years ago. The hotel we stayed at was hosting another wedding with a Hispanic family. When we left for our white person wedding, they had already started the reception. When we returned for our families thing, they were still going hard and wheeling in another keg.

AlexHallsEyebrowCan I go to college and make a living, if I did something with philosophy? I really enjoy epistemology and thinking and such. Not that I’m making crazy philosophical ideas but I enjoy reading and talking about them. And I don’t know what to do after highschool

GrandThingsGo to college for what you want, not what you think will get you a job after school.
There are plenty of avenues for people with humanities majors (Marketing, recruiting, sales, HR, supply-chain/operations, creative, account management, etc.) STEM majors often have a more clear roadmap and defined career paths but it's certainly not the only option if you want to have a successful career.
What IS important is that you can show how your studies can be applied to a future job. Your future career might not directly be related to philosophy, but in college you will learn strategic thinking, how to manage a busy workload, how to communicate and work with others and how think about abstract problems which are really the characteristics future employers will be looking for.
PLUS - you'll just be miserable (in college and in life) if you only follow things for a paycheck.

ASSholebomber22I wouldn't go to school for that. Keep it as an interest, you can probably get course and book lists from most any university you'd like and read as much philosophy coursework as you want for next to free.
Besides checking the 'i have a degree' box on applications I'm not sure there's much utility to a philosophy degree.
I'm not saying you shouldn't go to school for what you love, but you're paying a lot of money for someone else to determine your merit in a field. It's up to you whether that's worth it or not.
ASSholebomber22Wait why's this downvoted are there philosophy majors out there who actually have careers or what lmao
AbarskiI knew a few in college who all either went to law school or are in phd programs now. Our valedictorian was a philosophy major. Also logic was probably the most difficult course you could take at our school, it’s not like cruising through a random humanities major.
