At Rowen's suggestion, I'll start this thread off (even though I don't have an orange name).

Injury: Compression fractures at T4-5; incomplete spinal cord lesion.
How: DH biking. Bounced a landing and got tossed head-first into a tree.
When: October 2010
Surgeon work: spinal fusion T2-T8. Two rods, 12 screws + cadaver bone to help vertebrae fuse. (permanent)
Time to back on skis: 3 months, 7 days.

Injury: Broken femur.
How: DH biking. Overshot a big jump and landed flat.
When: September 2005
Surgeon work: 1 rod, 3 screws (removed after 6 months)
Time to back on skis: 10 weeks.

I don't have an x-ray but I caught my right IV distal phalanx (tip of the right ring finger) in an FKS while at work. I was careless and that thing rat trapped the shit out of my finger. Whats even worse is a tech at my shop (before I worked there) was mounting a pair of FKS and he trapped his finger in the heel piece, then had to unscrew the binding because the ski was in a vice. He finally got it off the ski but needed help getting the heel off of his hand (DINs were for a heavy fucker too). Long story short, don't fuck around with the FKS or Pivot.

Alright so just to expand a little bit on the arm. At this point, 5 surgeries later, I have 17 screws, 2 plates, 2 wires, and 2 pins. This happened last fall and then I rebroke it this spring skateboarding again (I then sold my board, definitely not worth it). One of my surgeries was due to a wire unbending and poking out of my arm, and another was because scar tissue was blocking a nerve and I could no longer move or feel my fingers/hand. I get so fucking unlucky it's not even funny...

Damn I've never had anything super gnar, just a ton of shit, both arms, left one twice, both feet, right ACL twice, right meniscus, collarbone twice. But damn do I have minimal hardware compared to some of this

Holy shit, this thread is absolutely insane. Now I just feel super lucky that my worst injury was a break in the lower part of my thumb.. I get worried when i accidentally jam my finger by hitting it or something. That bullshit doesn't even compare to you guys. You guys are awesome to be able to have all that and keep on skiing. That's the way to do it. But holy shit.. Time to get drunk off milk and slam calcium all day. Lol
Seriously though, super gnarly shit in here. Keep skiing guys!! And get better (to those of your who haven't gotten better)

Somehow I've never broken a bone. How bad does it hurt? It legitimately terrifying knowing that it's bound to happen skiing eventually but not knowing what it's like.

depends what bone. when i broke my arm it was probably the most painful thing i have ever felt... you can't really prepare for it. its a totally different pain from like cut and scrapes. you will know when it happens. hope you never do though haha it sucks!

cant find my x rays but. got checked into the boards playing hockey, broke my right humerus multiple times in the same area. Had 9 screws and 2 plates put in. Sucks cause I only skied 2 days and I broke it a week before a trip to colorado, so yeah that blew. But now I have this sick keloid scar that scares just about anyone.

ya that's me almost 3 months ago. looks like I took a bullet to the head but I fell off my longboard. fractured my skull in 2 places deep at the end of both my ear canals. it was good that it broke there though, because I was able to get rid of a bunch of fluid and shit out of my ears so I didn't need surgery. But I have hearing loss, complete loss of my sense of smell, and sporadic dizziness/vertigo. other than that I am a lucky SOB.

doc says no skiing this year, but next year is only like a month away. I will be careful though, no park skiing.

I wear a helmet when I ski, but not on a skate board? I will not make that mistake again.

same here, but i dont have a picture. weird injury since you cannot actually locate or see the source of your pain. i just felt like puking and my stomach hurt like hell. arguing about skiing with my parents since then. obviously, they don't support me anymore. wouldn't do either if i had children...

Wow, I fucking bump this thread and then have a type 3 separation of my AC joint. No skiing until the New Year, which means no job either.

The nurse said I get an award because I am the first ski injury of the year. Madre didn't want me going to the hospital by Killington so my buddy saved the day and drove us three hours home while I bitched the whole time.

i had a type 3 separation of my ac joint a few years back from a cycling accident. I thought it was the end all because the doctor told me I wouldn't be able to do anything with it for 5 weeks or so. I also quit my job because I was working with dogs.. so I couldn't handle them with that injury. Anyways the point of this response is that the pain was really awful for the first week or two and then it more r less disappeared.. and I was fine. So... If things go right maybe you'll be able to ski in just a few weeks.

Hit a stone last season, tomahawkin on bad snow down a cliff.
Gotta look if I can find an x-ray from my broken neck from 4 years ago...

But actually broken bones are not that bad. I've had way more trouble with ACL and other knee injury shit. Bones heal, ACLs wont.

Was fucking around on the side of the trail, was going to go "big" for some hip transfer thing. There was an exposed branch stump on the takeoff that my ski got stuck on and, got bucked weird. Just fell out of the sky right onto my shoulder

It would have been supa cool had it worked
