What's your Major dude???

Hopefully someone gets the sunny reference, but I just want to get people together to talk about their degree plans. I wish I had more guidance when I was younger and spent way more time on these forums. Maybe this will end up a how-to guide for the bulk of NS, which I assume the average age of is 14-17 or so? I'll start it off even though I still don't know what I want to do. I've got an Associate's Degree in Media Communication. There we did everything from journalism to video/television production. I'm 3 semesters away from my Bachelor's Degree in Business-Administration. After that, who knows what i'm going to do. Definitely not me, so what's everyone else doing?

I'm starting off undeclared but I plan on majoring in either business management or fashion design so that one day I might be able to own my own gear company.

Anyone have any suggestions on exactly what major would be best in my situation?

If that's what you want to do that seem's pretty solid. Undecided is good because you can always change your mind and keep the credits. Look into your local C.C. if you can, it's extremely cheap for getting your first 2 years of college out of the way. I went to a 4 year college after high school and though I wouldn't trade those times for anything, I would've been better off staying home. Also for juniors going into senior year, see if they offer a program where you go to the local comm. college. My cousin is pretty smart bookwise and finished her 2 year degree before she got her high school diploma. This can save you thousands of dollars.

Not quite sure what the costs are like in the states but here in Canada, it's a little more then 5 grand. I did mine for about 10 and that took me taking a summer off so I could focus 100% on flying and finish my training in the minimums(something that is very difficult but keeps the overall cost much lower). Integrated Physiology, and right now the plans to go to dental school when im done. Anyone else doing that? If i don't i think I'm kinda fucked with this degree. Had a real hard time deciding what to do just hanging out in college for 2 years and im still not even sure.

The advisers said the Bus. school at CU Boulder is tough to get into if i decided to go back to finance there. Anyone have any experience getting in there?

Yeah I'm actually going to MHCC in Gresham, Or. I'm so stoked on the campus and the fact that Hood is 45 minutes away is going to be epic. Thanks for the advice though.

AND if any newschoolers need a place to crash when they are wanting to ski hood just hit me up.

one school im looking at lets you do general engineering...as a 5 year masters

but another one has a required "engineering studies" thing for freshmen, so that you can learn the difference for real

im pretty sure i want mechanical, but many of the disciplines have a lot of applications after college, so it is hard to tell

So I am still in highschool (16) and have been thinking alot about careers lately and what direction i want to go in when i reach university/college. I am definitely leaning towards marketing/ graphic design or architecture but also want to try to get into film/writing ect.

Any tips for a highschooler going into grade 11 that would want to get into those programs?

i can tell you that the marketing and graphic design is much more closely related to your film ambitions. Architecture not so much. With my 2 year Media Comm. degree I had several different journalism classes, marketing, public relations, 2 tv production classes, radio production and a few others. There's much more room to be creative with film if that's what you want to do.

in the process of a diploma for massage

2 years of pre med done but transfering into a kin degree and at some point will do masters of physiotherapy.

graduating high school this next year, going to California Maritime Academy where im going to double major in marine transportation and marine engineering, while doing officer training school for the coast guard junior and senior year...a little different then everyone elses ambitions i guess

double major finance sociology, graduate this coming spring, still have no clue what im doing or what i want to do when i get out,

starting a hot sauce company however with this guy from central america, fingers crossed something good will come out of it.  It's called, CHICO SAUCE, just trying to get some hype out there now

Ill be a 3rd year mechanical engineering student at UMaine this year. Maine has a really strong engineering program and tuition is pretty reasonable (19k and 34k for in and out of state, respectively), plus day trips to Sugarloaf are still doable at around 2hrs away.
