when i do them, i just reach down to the area righta above my toe piece (right hand left ski, if spinning left, reverse that for op mute), and once i feel the ski i pull up. when you pull up on the grab it will make it look more like the typical "mute" prolly what you are thinking of, a big crossed up grab tweaked to one side.
