actually the "safety cell" of a smart is pretty good. the cars biggest problem concerning safety is its weight.

notice how the M3 takes a huge lead, but when the Veyron reaches a higher RPM it takes off. if the distance the smart car and ferrari were racing was increased, the ferrari would take it.

I know a guy who's dad got killed in a car accident driving one of those lame ass cars.
Anyway, like the other guy said, Ferraris are made to have insane handling at any speed that the engine is capable of producing.
